    • Jordan Westburg homers as leadoff man
Batting leadoff for the first time, Jordan Westburg went 2-for-5 with a homer versus the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Manager Brandon Hyde indicated before the game that this wasn’t a permanent move. Westburg, though, has a case for hitting high in the order regularly. He’s batting .301/.354/.534 with seven homers and five steals in 159 plate appearances. Prior to today, he had hit third once but never higher than fifth otherwise. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

    • Cedric Mullins gets pulled for pinch-hitter
Cedric Mullins, who was dropped to ninth in Baltimore’s lineup, was lifted for a pinch-hitter after opening up 0-for-2 on Wednesday.

Advice: Mullins is 0-for-16 with eight strikeouts in his last five games and 5-for-59 with a 19/4 K/BB in his last 18 games. He was off to fine start before that, but the Orioles seem to have real concerns about the way he’s performing, given that he was just held out of the starting lineup twice against righties over the weekend. He’s down to .183/.234/.349 for the season. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

    • Justin Turner comes off bench in return
Justin Turner returned to action Wednesday, finishing 0-for-2 off the bench against the Orioles.

Advice: Turner missed the previous two games because of illness. He’ll now have another day to recuperate, as the Jays don’t play Thursday. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

    • Ronald Acuña Jr. not in Braves lineup on Wednesday
Ronald Acuña Jr. is not in the Braves’ starting lineup for Wednesday night’s showdown against the Cubs.

Advice: It looks to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 26-year-old superstar. Michael Harris II will move up to the leadoff spot in the Braves’ order while Adam Duvall will draw a rare start against a right-hander and will bat sixth against Javier Assad and the Cubs on Wednesday evening in Atlanta. • Bryan De La Cruz goes deep, Marlins edge Tigers
Bryan De La Cruz launched a two-run homer on Wednesday, leading the Marlins to a 2-0 victory over the Tigers.

Advice: De La Cruz supplied the lone runs for either side in a low-scoring Wednesday afternoon matinee at Comerica Park courtesy of a gargantuan 422-foot blast to left-center field off Tigers starter Casey Mize in the opening frame. It was his lone hit in four at-bats and his ninth round-tripper of the season. The 27-year-old corner outfielder has put together a nice breakthrough campaign so far for the struggling Marlins, batting .256 (46-for-180) with 25 runs scored, nine homers, 24 RBI and one steal through 45 contests. • Exits game with bruised knee
Santander was removed from Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays due to a bruised knee, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Santander banged up his knee when he collided with the outfield wall and then aggravated it on a double and a slide in the eighth inning before being lifted in the ninth. It doesn't sound like a big concern, and it's possible the Orioles' scheduled off day will be enough rest for Santander. Consider him day-to-day. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

    • Trevor Rogers tames Tigers to collect first win
Trevor Rogers spun five scoreless innings on Wednesday in a win over the Tigers.

Advice: Rogers rebounded nicely on Wednesday afternoon at pitcher-friendly Comerica Park, limiting Detroit’s upstart lineup to just three hits and a pair of walks over five frames, after being demolished for five runs over 3 1/3 innings his last time out against the Phillies. The 26-year-old southpaw hasn’t come close to re-discovering the form that made him a breakout sensation during the 2021 campaign, but this outing certainly represents a step in the right direction. His six strikeouts were his highest single-start total since April 17. He’ll bring a bloated 5.79 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 37/19 K/BB ratio across 42 innings (nine starts) into a home outing on Tuesday against the red-hot Brewers. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

    • Casey Mize strikes out six in loss to Marlins
Casey Mize surrendered two runs over six innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Mize served up a two-run homer to Bryan De La Cruz in the opening frame, which wound up being enough to saddle him with a loss in this one as Detroit’s offense was shut out by Trevor Rogers and a quartet of Miami relievers. He struck out six and only handed out one free pass. The 27-year-old former top prospect will bring a strong 3.50 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 32/10 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a favorable road matchup on Tuesday agains the Royals.
