    • Back in majors
The Cardinals recalled Leahy from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Advice: The right-hander served as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader and will quickly rejoin the major-league roster as Steven Matz (back) heads to the injured list. Leahy has made four appearances over the past two years with the Cardinals and has given up six runs over three innings. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

    • Lands on IL with lower-back strain
The Cardinals placed Matz on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to May 1, with a lower-back strain.

Advice: Matz attempted to pitch through back soreness in his last start Tuesday in Detroit, but it didn't go well and an MRI has revealed a strain. It's not clear at this point how long he might be on the shelf. The Cards haven't revealed who will take Matz's spot in the rotation, but his next turn would be Tuesday and Sem Robberse would be on regular rest that day. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Cardinals recall Kyle Leahy from Triple-A
Cardinals recalled RHP Kyle Leahy from Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: Leahy will join the Cardinals this weekend after the team placed Steven Matz on the injured list. The 26-year-old pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs against the Tigers earlier this week and will add bullpen depth for St. Louis. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Cardinals place Steven Matz (back) on 15-day IL
Cardinals placed LHP Steven Matz on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 1, with a lower back strain.

Advice: The 32-year-old will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks as he heals from a lower back injury. Matz pitched earlier this week and tried to push through the pain, but it appears it’s too much for him to continue without proper treatment and recovery. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

    • Available off bench
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Friday that Sanchez (hamstring) is not yet 100 percent but is "good to go" and will be available off the bench, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Eric Haase is on the Brewers' taxi squad just in case, but it doesn't appear at this point that the team plans to add him to the active roster. Sanchez had to be removed from Tuesday's game against the Rays with right hamstring tightness, but it sounds like he could pinch-hit Friday, if needed. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

    • Slated for another rehab start
Craig Counsell said Friday that Hendricks (back) will start for Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday as he continues his rehab assignment, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Hendricks allowed two runs while striking out seven over five innings with Double-A Tennessee on Thursday, with Counsell referring to the outing as "encouraging." However, given how badly Hendricks struggled with the big club before his back injury, the Cubs will give him another tune-up start at a higher level before considering sticking him back in the major-league rotation. • On track to return Monday
Steele (hamstring) will start Monday against the Padres as long as he gets through a bullpen session Saturday with no issues, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: The results of Steele's lone rehab start weren't great -- he allowed three runs on six hits over 3.1 innings -- but he feels good and has put his hamstring injury in the rearview mirror, which is the most important thing. Steele threw 63 pitches in his rehab outing Wednesday, so he will be somewhat limited from a workload perspective Monday, assuming he is indeed cleared to rejoin the Cubs' rotation that day. • Summoned to big leagues
The Brewers recalled Martin from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Advice: Martin was claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks last month. The 28-year-old missed the 2023 season following lat surgery and had spent all of 2024 at the Triple-A level, holding a 6.14 ERA and 8:7 K:BB over 7.1 frames. Martin has mostly been a starter in the past but has made a full-time move to relief this season. Rotowire.com Today, 9:19 am

    • Brewers recall Corbin Martin
Brewers recalled RHP Corbin Martin from Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Martin was claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks in mid-April. The 28-year-old hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2022 and has a career 6.71 ERA, 1.89 WHIP with a 53/38 K/BB ratio across 57 2/3 innings of work. Rotoworld Today, 9:04 am
