    • Lane Thomas plates two runs in loss to Padres
Lane Thomas smacked a two-run double, drew a pair of walks and scored a run on Wednesday as the Nationals fell to the Padres in San Diego.

Advice: Thomas finally broke through and got the Nationals on the board with a two-run double off of Tom Cosgrove in the ninth inning. He scored later in the frame on a two-run double by Luis Garcia, but the five-run rally in the ninth still fell short. The 28-year-old outfielder was also cut down attempting to steal second base in the ballgame. He finished the afternoon 1-for-2 and is now hitting .243/.302/.431 to go with eight homers, 34 RBI and 17 stolen bases (in 23 attempts) on the season. Rotoworld Today, 3:46 pm

    • Cal Raleigh lifts Mariners to victory over Rays
Cal Raleigh clobbered a three-run homer on Wednesday, leading the Mariners to a 5-2 victory over the Rays.

Advice: Raleigh put Seattle ahead for good in a low-scoring series finale at Tropicana Field by walloping a gargantuan 422-foot dinger to right field off Rays reliever Shawn Armstrong in the sixth inning. It was his lone hit of the contest, but he also drew a pair of walks as well. The 27-year-old backstop remains a liability in the batting average department, but he’s up to 14 big flies already and is on pace for his second consecutive 30-homer campaign. • Absent from lineup versus righty
Naylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Naylor took a seat in Tuesday's 10-8 win while southpaw Cade Povich was on the bump, but Naylor's absence Wednesday is more conspicuous against Baltimore right-hander Grayson Rodriguez. Naylor could be nursing an unspecified injury, but the Guardians have yet to provide any official confirmation on that front. Jhonkensy Noel was called up from Triple-A Columbus and will enter the lineup at first base Wednesday in place of Naylor. Rotowire.com Today, 12:48 pm

    • Drives in two, steals base
Crawford went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, a walk, and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-2 win against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Crawford had an all-around showing Wednesday, reaching base three times and picking up his third stolen base of the season. The three steals are already more than he had all of last season. The 29-year-old extended his hitting streak to a season-best seven games. Since his return from the IL, he's started every game at the leadoff spot and is trending upwards despite the .217/.315/.371 slash line. Rotowire.com Today, 12:29 pm

    • Slugs 14th homer
Raleigh went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and two walks in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Tampa Bay.

Advice: The Mariners had gone scoreless through five until Raleigh connected for the deciding hit of the game. His 14th homer of the season ties him for the MLB lead in the position, tied with Shea Langeliers and Adley Rutschman. Raleigh now has two home runs in his last three games after a stretch in which he only hit one over 29 games. Rotowire.com Today, 12:17 pm

    • Receiving breather Wednesday
Ruiz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Ruiz will rest up after he started at catcher in each of the Nationals' last four games while going 3-for-13 with a pair of doubles and walks. Drew Millas will get the nod behind the dish in Ruiz's stead. Rotowire.com Today, 12:12 pm

    • Could play rehab games this weekend
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Nootbaar (oblique) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Nootbaar hit in the batting cage Monday and then took on-field batting practice Tuesday for the first time since suffering a strained left oblique in late May. It's not clear how many rehab games he might require, but a return from the 10-day injured list in early July appears doable. Rotowire.com Today, 9:32 am

    • Throws sim game
Gallen (hamstring) threw 67 pitches in a simulated game Monday and will next have a bullpen session Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Diamondbacks were preparing for Gallen to throw Monday, whether in a sim game or live batting practice, and decided on the sim game. He next heads to Chase Field on Thursday for a bullpen session, which will be caught by Gabriel Moreno, who is nursing a sprained left thumb. If all goes well Thursday, then Gallen could return during Arizona's series against Oakland that begins Friday. Rotowire.com Today, 4:35 am

    • Goes yard again
Ward went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run during Tuesday's 7-5 win over Oakland.

Advice: Ward launched a homer for the second consecutive night, tagging Sean Newcomb for a solo shot in the seventh inning. He's riding a five-game hit streak, batting 7-for-15 (.467) with five extra-base hits, five runs scored and a stolen base during that stretch. Ward also ranks top 20 in the AL in home runs and RBI.
