    • Willson Contreras swats two-run homer in defeat
Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer on Wednesday in the Cardinals’ extra-inning loss at the hands of the Pirates.

Advice: Contreras walloped a game-tying shot off Pirates reliever Colin Holderman, who has been outstanding this season in a setup role for Pittsburgh, in the eighth inning to help send this one to extra innings. It was his lone hit in three at-bats, but he also drew a pair of walks in this one. It was the first big fly for the 32-year-old veteran backstop since returning from the injured list back on June 24. Rotoworld Today, 6:50 pm
    • Bryce Harper leads N.L. All-Star vote getters
Bryce Harper led all National League players in voting for the All-Star Game, getting named to his eighth All-Star team.

Advice: What remains unclear is whether or not Harper — who is currently stationed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, will be able to participate in the Mid-Summer Classic. Here’s who will join him in the starting lineup for the National League All-Stars (with their number of times making the All-Star team and starting in the game in parentheses): C: William Contreras (2 - 1x starter), 1B: Bryce Harper (8 - 7x starter), 2B: Ketel Marte (2 - 2x starter), SS: Trea Turner (3 - 2x starter), 3B: Alec Bohm (1 - 1x starter), DH: Shohei Ohtani (4 - 4x starter), OF: Christian Yelich (3 - 2x starter), Jurickson Profar (1 - 1x starter) and Fernando Tatis Jr. (2 - 2x starter). • Jordan Romano (elbow) has arthroscopic surgery
The Blue Jays announced Wednesday that Jordan Romano underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair an impingement in his right elbow.

Advice: Jays’ manager John Schnieder told reporters that he’ll be shut down completely for the next six weeks before he’s able to resume throwing. That means there’s no certainty that he’ll be able to return before the end of the 2024 season. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues without IL spots can safely cut bait on the 31-year-old closer. Expect Chad Green to continue holding down the fort in the ninth inning for the time being. Rotoworld Today, 1:16 pm

    • Undergoes elbow surgery
Romano underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Tuesday to repair an impingement and will be shut down from throwing for at least six weeks, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 31-year-old has been unavailable due to elbow issues since late May, and it's now unclear whether he'll be able to pitch again this year. Romano missed the first couple weeks of the season with elbow problems and never looked himself in the six weeks he was available with a 6.59 ERA in 15 appearances. Chad Green has stepped up as Toronto's closer with Yimi Garcia (elbow) also on the injured list. Rotowire.com Today, 1:15 pm

    • Ezequiel Tovar absent from Rockies’ lineup
Ezequiel Tovar is not in the Rockies’ starting lineup for Wednesday night’s showdown against the Brewers.

Advice: It looks to be a routine day off for the 22-year-old shortstop. Tovar has slumped recently after a very strong start to the season, hitting just .205/.244/.231 with no homers, one RBI and a 14/2 K/BB ratio over 41 plate appearances in his last nine games. Aaron Schunk will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth against Colin Rea and the Brewers on Wednesday evening at Coors Field. Rotoworld Today, 1:06 pm

    • Getting rare day off
Tovar is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: Wednesday marks Tovar's third day off this season, as the 22-year-old yields to Aaron Schunk at shortstop. Tovar is slashing .276/.304/.459 with 12 home runs across 371 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 12:29 pm

    • Another multi-hit game
Altuve went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored during Tuesday's 7-6 loss to Toronto.

Advice: For the sixth time in seven games, Altuve generated multiple hits, tagging the Blue Jays for three singles Tuesday. During that stretch, Altuve is 13-for-31 (.419) with a pair of home runs and three stolen bases. He ranks top five in homers, batting average and stolen bases among second basemen this season. • Swats 15th home run
De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, a triple and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Yankees.

Advice: De La Cruz took Caleb Ferguson yard in the fifth inning, extending the Reds' advantage to 5-0. The speedster also legged out his sixth triple of the season and third in the last five games. De La Cruz has generated multiple hits in seven of his last 10 games, batting .349 with a pair of homers, eight runs and three steals over that span. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:50 pm
    • Keeps tumbling
Gil (9-4) took the loss Tuesday against Cincinnati, allowing four runs on two hits and three walks across four-plus innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Gil surrendered at least four runs for a third straight start, something he'd done just once in his first 13 outings, continuing an unexpected freefall after an outstanding start to 2024. He was pulled after hitting a pair of batters and allowing a two-run home run to Will Benson in the fifth inning without recording an out. While Gil still owns a 3.41 ERA and a 102:48 K:BB across 89.2 innings, fantasy managers should proceed with caution, especially with a matchup against the Red Sox on the docket for Sunday.
