• Yankees option Cody Morris to Triple-A
Yankees optioned RHP Cody Morris to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Morris was called up last Friday, but didn’t end up making an appearance for the Yankees before being shipped back to the minors. The 27-year-old righty figures to continue shuttling back and forth between New York’s bullpen and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre over the next few months. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

  • Goes deep for team's lone run
Trevino went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday in a loss to the Athletics.

Advice: Trevino plated an early run for New York with his solo blast in the second inning, but the team's offense did not score again. Still, the homer continued a strong recent stretch of offense by the backstop, as he's built an eight-game hitting streak during which he's batting .423/.464/.654. The hot span hasn't moved Trevino out of a timeshare behind the plate, however -- both he and Austin Wells have played three games over New York's past six contests. Rotowire.com Today, 12:15 am
  • Swats first homer
Nevin went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday in a 3-1 victory versus the Yankees.

Advice: Nevin's two-run blast in the third inning proved to be the winning hit, as neither team crossed the plate after that point. The long ball was his first this season and just his sixth through 375 big-league plate appearances. Nevin hasn't flashed much power in the big leagues thus far and has never stolen a base as a major leaguer, so his upside is quite limited, though he's at least put together a decent .286/.355/.375 slash line this season. • Notches first win of season
Wood (1-2) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Wood allowed plenty of traffic on the basepaths, but the only run that crossed the plate against him came on a second-inning Jose Trevino solo homer. This was by far the left-hander's best outing in an A's uniform -- he came into the contest holding a 7.89 ERA and 2.03 WHIP while failing to go five innings in three of his five starts. One strong start isn't going to wipe away Wood's poor overall body of work on the campaign, but it at least helped him get into the win column for the first time and provided hope that he could yet turn things around. • Slugs third homer in loss
Profar went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, two total runs, three total RBI and a walk in a loss to the Rockies on Thursday.

Advice: Profar plated San Diego's second run of the contest with a single in the third inning and tacked on a two-run homer in the seventh. The big performance lifted his season slash line to .295/.406/.466. Profar ranks third on the Padres with 26 hits and leads the club with 18 RBI. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:08 pm
  • Belts big long ball
Goodman went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Thursday in a 10-9 victory versus San Diego.

Advice: Goodman's eighth-inning, three-run blast was enormous not only in terms of distance (it traveled an estimated 448 feet) but also in terms of impact, as it brought the Rockies to within two runs in what was to become a successful late comeback. The homer was Goodman's first hit in six at-bats since being promoted from Triple-A on Wednesday. The 2021 fourth-round draft pick had seven long balls through 91 plate appearances in the minors prior to the call-up and knocked 34 home runs over 106 minor-league contests last year, so his potential for big-league power is intriguing, especially given his home field. • Clubs first homer of 2024
France went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Thursday's 4-3 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Although France boasts a quality .266 batting average through 22 games, he's been a non-factor in the power department, waiting until his 84th plate appearance to notch his first home run of the campaign. The long ball came in the first inning off Andrew Heaney and plated Julio Rodriguez. His ISO has dropped from .116 to .088 while his strikeout rate sits at 21.8 percent after posting a K-rate lower than 18 percent in three straight seasons. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:53 pm

  • Can't escape third inning Thursday
Vasquez allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 2.2 innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Thursday.

Advice: Vasquez got another start with Yu Darvish (neck) on the injured list, though he didn't fare well in the Colorado altitude. The Padres staked him to an early 4-1 lead, but the right-hander allowed the Rockies to pull even in the third and was lifted after retiring only two batters in the frame. Vasquez was much better in his first start of the campaign against the Blue Jays on April 20, and Coors Field has a history of demolishing pitcher stat lines, so the right-hander may still get another turn in the rotation if Darvish isn't ready to return when first eligible. • Goes six innings in loss
Heaney (0-3) took the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on five hits and no walks over six innings against the Mariners. He struck out seven.

Advice: Although Heaney only gave up five hits, three went for extra bases, including two-run home runs to Luis Urias and Ty France. Heaney's now surrendered multiple long balls in back-to-back starts. While Thursday's start marked Heaney's first time pitching into the sixth, he's allowed multiple runs in all but one outing this year. He's tentatively scheduled for a matchup with the Nationals on Wednesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:39 pm
