    • Gregory Soto fires scoreless frame against Tigers
Gregory Soto fired a scoreless frame against his former club on Wednesday, working a scoreless fourth inning with a pair of strikeouts at Comerica Park.

Advice: Soto was called upon in the fourth inning of this one after Spencer Turnbull made an early exit with a sore shoulder. The lone baserunner against him came as he plunked Riley Greene with a one-out pitch. He struck out Colt Keith to begin the inning and Wenceel Perez to end it. On the season, the 29-year-old southpaw holds a 3.91 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and a 28/15 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings while accruing two saves and a victory Rotoworld Today, 12:42 pm
    • Another live BP set
Santos (lat) is set to throw another live batting practice Friday in Seattle and could begin a rehab assignment shortly thereafter, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander put together a very encouraging live BP on Saturday in Miami before that day's game against the Marlins, using his sinker/slider combo with great effectiveness and impressive velocity against Ryan Bliss and Tyler Locklear in a 10-pitch session. If Santos encounters similar success Friday, it appears he'll be ticketed for what should be a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, given he's been sidelined since spring training. • Set to start Thursday
Daniel will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Thursday's game against the Tigers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Other than a one-day stay with the Halos in mid-May in which he didn't make an appearance, Daniel has spent the entire season at Salt Lake, posting an ugly 5.33 ERA but a more promising 82:25 K:BB across 76 innings covering 14 starts. The 27-year-old right-hander appeared in three games out of the Angels bullpen in 2023, allowing three runs with a 9:9 K:BB over 12.1 frames. With Patrick Sandoval (elbow) out for the season and Jose Soriano (abdomen) still on the injured list, Daniel could get a chance to take multiple turns through the rotation. • Moving rehab to Triple-A
The Yankees transferred Effross's (back) rehab assignment from Single-A Tampa to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Advice: Effross turned in a pair of clean rehab outings for Tampa, covering three shutout innings while striking out four. He'll likely be in store for a more extended stay at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre that could extend the full length of his 30-day rehab window, which began June 19. The right-hander missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from October 2022 Tommy John surgery and has been on the Yankees' injured list for the entirety of the current season while he works his way back from December back surgery. • David Daniel to start Thursday for Angels
Davis Daniel was scratched from his Triple-A start and will pitch for the angels on Thursday.

Advice: The Angels are down bad in the rotation at the moment, so the 27-year-old Daniel will slot in tomorrow. The right-hander has a 5.33 ERA in 14 starts for Salt Lake, but that’s largely the product of a .378 BABIP. He’s struck out 82, walked 25 and allowed just five homers in 76 innings. • Starting second game Wednesday
Liberatore will start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus Atlanta, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Liberatore's last appearance was a spot start a week ago, and he went 3.2 innings and threw 48 pitches against the Marlins. Based on the workload he handled versus Miami, Liberatore should be capable of going at least that long in Wednesday's outing, though the St. Louis bullpen will certainly be needed to cover multiple innings. • Side session set for Wednesday
Hendriks (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Red Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey said Hendriks has been throwing "half-mound" sessions, but Wednesday's activity marks the reliever's first session throwing on the top of the mound since undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery last August. If Wednesday's workout goes well, a normal progression would have Hendriks throwing two bullpen sessions per week before ramping up to face hitters. Rotowire.com Today, 6:12 am

    • Cubs to start Hayden Wesneski on Wednesday
The Cubs will have Hayden Wesneski start Wednesday against the Giants.

Advice: It’ll be Hayden versus Hayden (Birdsong, the Giants’ pitcher making his MLB debut). Wesneski hasn’t thrown more than two innings since May 13, so this won’t be a particularly long start, especially if he doesn’t perform better than he has lately; he’s given up six runs and four homers over 7 1/3 innings in his last six appearances. • Gregory Santos (lat) nears rehab assignment
Gregory Santos (lat) is slated to throw a live batting practice session on Friday.

Advice: Santos is expected to head out on a minor league rehab assignment shortly afterwards, assuming he gets through Friday’s session without any issues. The 24-year-old high-leverage specialist has been on the shelf since spring training due to a lat issue. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:12 pm
