      Hunter Greene matched a season-high with nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 shutout innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

      Advice: Greene locked horns with Pirates starter Mitch Keller in a throwback pitcher’s duel on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park, limiting Pittsburgh’s lineup to just four baserunners (two hits and a pair of hit batters) into the seventh inning. The hard-throwing 24-year-old right-hander’s four-seam fastball velocity was up slightly in this one to 98.5 mph as he generated an impressive 17 swinging strikes, with 16 of those courtesy of his fastball/slider combo. It was a relief to see him avoid handing out any free passes in this one after issuing a season-high five walks in his previous outing. He’ll carry a solid 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 98/37 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a rematch against the Pirates on Tuesday back in Cincinnati. Rotoworld Wednesday, 11:49 am
       
    • Cruises to fourth win
      Cortes (4-5) picked up the win in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Orioles, allowing five hits over six scoreless innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

      Advice: The crafty lefty was at his baffling best, and the only runner Baltimore got past second base against Cortes came on an Austin Wells passed ball in the sixth inning. Cortes threw a season-high 105 pitches (64 strikes) in the outing, his first time in triple digits since April 20, while the quality start was his second straight and seventh of the campaign. He'll take a 3.36 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 86:18 K:BB through 93.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home this weekend against Atlanta. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:13 am
       
    • Justin Steele strikes out eight in no-decision
      Justin Steele gave up two runs over 6 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Giants.

      Advice: Steele carried a shutout into the fifth inning before backup catcher Curt Casali delivered a game-tying two-run double, which was enough to extinguish any chance of picking up a win since Chicago’s offense didn’t pull ahead until the eighth inning. He generated 14 swinging strikes, with 13 of them coming on his four-seam fastball/slider combo, and finished with a 31 percent CSW. He’ll carry a strong 3.16 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 56/15 K/BB ratio across 57 innings (10 starts) into a rematch on Monday against the Giants at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park.       Advice: Suarez coaxed a flyout from Trea Turner for the final out in the eighth inning before the right-hander surrendered four straight hits in the ninth, ultimately allowing two runs to take his first loss and blown save this season. Suarez had allowed just one run in his previous 27 innings coming into Tuesday. He still sports a stellar 1.21 ERA across 29.2 innings this year with a 0.81 WHIP and 28:6 K:BB while logging 17 saves.       Miller (6-5) earned the win Tuesday against the Guardians, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: It was another solid outing from Miller, who's now allowed just two earned runs over 12.2 innings in his last two starts. While he's been inconsistent at times this year, the 25-year-old Miller has turned in a respectable 3.46 ERA with a 1.01 WHIP and 82:26 K:BB across 15 starts (88.1 innings).       Advice: The Chicago southpaw posted his third straight quality start as he generated 14 whiffs en route to eight punchouts, tying the season high he'd set May 27 against Milwaukee. The Giants managed to collect both runs against Steele on a fifth-inning double yielded to Curt Casali. Although Steele is still searching for his first win, he's been a dependable arm with a 3.16 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 56:15 K:BB over 57 innings this season.       Robert Suárez blew a save on Tuesday, allowing two runs on four hits in 1/3 innings against the Phillies.

      Advice: Suárez was called on to protect a one-run lead, but he allowed three straight singles to Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and Bryson Stott to tie the game. Nick Castellanos then hit a ground rule double to seal the win for the Phillies. It was just Suárez’s first blown save of the season, and he still carries a 1.21 ERA on the season.       Bryce Miller allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Guardians on Tuesday.

      Advice: Miller walked two and struck out two on the day. He had just six whiffs on 43 swings on the day, leading to a 14 percent whiff rate and 22 percent CSW on the day. The only pitch Miller recorded a whiff on all day was his fastball with his other pitches getting zero whiffs on 16 combined swings. The 25-year-old has a solid 3.46 ERA on the year, but the secondaries have yet to develop in a way that gives us confidence in his swing-and-miss upside this season. He remains a solid fantasy option and should be in for a good start against the Marlins this weekend, but it may take a pitch mix change to unlock the strikeouts that will give him a higher fantasy ceiling.     • Nestor Cortes blanks O’s for six innings in win
      Nestor Cortes pitched six scoreless innings while striking out six to earn the win on Tuesday against the Orioles.

      Advice: Cortes needed 25 pitches to get through the first inning, thanks in part to back-to-back singles by Adley Rutschman and Ryan Mountcastle. He would eventually settle in to pitch six scoreless innings without walking a batter. The five hits Cortes allowed all came on singles as he did everything within reason to hold a powerful Orioles lineup in check.
