    • James McArthur closes out Angels to nab ninth save
James McArthur served up a solo homer in the ninth inning on Sunday, but managed to escape with a two-run lead intact to secure his ninth save of the season.

Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander allowed a one-out solo shot to Willie Calhoun but retired each of the other three hitters that he faced — needing just 11 pitches total (eight strikes) to navigate the ninth inning. On the season, he now holds a 4.42 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and an 18/3 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings while converting nine of his first 12 save chances. Despite some recent struggles, Royals’ skipper Matt Quatraro seems committed to keeping McArthur in the closer’s role, which means he’ll continue to have mixed league fantasy value. • Jack Flaherty slips to 0-3 after quality start
Jack Flaherty yielded three runs in 6 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Still no breaks at all for Flaherty, who is 0-3 in spite of a 3.88 ERA. He really should have given up just two runs today, but Joey Wentz allowed an inherited runner to score from first after coming on with two outs against the bottom of the Astros lineup in the seventh. Flaherty has six quality starts in eight tries this season. Last year, he totaled eight in 27 starts for the Cardinals and Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

    • Blake Snell dominates in rehab start on Sunday
Blake Snell delivered a dominant performance in his minor league rehab start at Single-A San Jose on Sunday, retiring all 12 hitters that he faced in order — seven of them via the strikeout.

Advice: Of course that’s the type of dominance that you would expect from a reigning National League Cy Young award winner squaring off against Single-A competition. Nonetheless, it was nice to see Snell pitching well on a mound once again. He only threw 46 pitches in the outing, so it’s unclear if he’ll require another minor league tune-up to get stretched out further, or if he’ll be deemed ready to return to the Giants’ rotation after this one. • Pitches well in loss
Miller (3-3) was stuck with the loss against Oakland on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: All of the damage against Miller came in the top of the third, when the 25-year-old issued a leadoff walk to Lawrence Butler to open the frame, followed by back-to-back singles. The right-hander allowed only two hits outside of that inning and retired 10 of the final 12 batters he faced, but he still got stuck with his third loss of the season due to a lack of run support. Miller has allowed two runs or fewer in six of his eight starts this season and recorded his second-highest strikeout total of the campaign Saturday with nine punchouts. • Bryce Miller posts nine strikeouts in loss to A’s
Bryce Miller recorded nine strikeouts and allowed two runs over six innings in a loss to the Athletics.

Advice: Miller deserved a better fate in this one as he generated an eye-popping 17 swinging strikes, including six on his splitter alone, and finished with a strong 34 percent CSW. The 25-year-old righty has quietly taken a significant step forward this season, increasing his strikeout rate to 27.9 percent, while allowing two earned runs or fewer in six of his eight outings so far. He’ll bring a stellar 2.66 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 51/15 K/BB ratio across 47 1/3 innings (eight starts) into a tough road tilt on Friday against the Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 4:41 am

    • Triston McKenzie goes 6 2/3 in loss to White Sox
Triston McKenzie was charged with two runs over 6 2/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the White Sox.

Advice: McKenzie, who it’s worth noting is pitching through torn ligament in his right elbow, got into trouble early when he allowed a pair of runs in the second inning, which were enough to eventually saddle him with a loss. He struck out five and also handed out a trio of free passes. The 26-year-old righty has shown some signs of improvement following a dreadful stretch to open the year, even if he’s not racking up a ton of strikeouts, allowing two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts since April 19. He’ll bring a serviceable 3.54 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 35/24 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a home matchup on Friday against the Twins. Rotoworld Today, 3:02 am
    • Posts another strong start
McKenzie (2-3) took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five batters over 6.2 innings.

Advice: McKenzie was tagged for two runs (one of which was unearned) in the second inning but otherwise kept Chicago off the scoreboard in his second-longest outing of the season. Cleveland was able to give the right-hander only one run of support, however, resulting in his third loss of the season. McKenzie began the campaign by giving up 11 runs (nine earned) over his initial 13 innings, but he's yielded just seven earned runs across 27.2 frames since to lower his ERA to a respectable 3.54. • Yields four runs over 5.1 innings
Cortes (1-4) took the loss Saturday in Tampa Bay, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Cortes had just eight walks all season coming into this outing and half of those came in his first two starts. He issued a season-high three free passes in this one and it's the first time since April 14 that he didn't go at least six frames. Cortes will try to bounce back his next time out in a favorable projected matchup at home against the White Sox. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:41 pm
    • Nestor Cortes struggles in loss to Rays Saturday
Nestor Cortes struggled in Saturday’s loss to the Rays, giving up four runs on five hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: Cortes punched out five batters on the afternoon, but also issued three free passes. The 29-year-old southpaw struggled to keep the baseball in the yard, giving up a leadoff homer to Yandy Diaz to start the home half of the first and then a three-run bomb to Randy Arozarena in the third — accounting for all of the damage done against him. Cortes generated 11 swings and misses on 89 pitches on the afternoon, posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to get back on track as he carries a 4.02 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and a 51/11 K/BB ratio (53 2/3 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the White Sox. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:27 pm
