    • Pivetta allows three in no-decision against Reds
      Nick Pivetta allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings and got a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday.

      Advice: Pivetta gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five. He was on the hook for the loss before a late comeback by the Red Sox offense. It was another pedestrian start from Pivetta that might be becoming a trend. In his first eight starts of the year, he had 51 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings. In his last three starts, he’s had just 13 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander is set to face the Padres at home next weekend.

    • Logan Gilbert hurls eight scoreless in victory
      Logan Gilbert allowed four hits over eight scoreless in a 9-0 win for the Mariners on Saturday.

      Advice: Gilbert issued just one walk while striking out six, and he needed just 92 pitches to get through the Miami lineup. The 27-year-old has not allowed a run over his last two outings, and he’s lowered his ERA to 2.71 thanks to those dominant results. The Mariners have arguably the best rotation in baseball, but Gilbert just might be the ace of that staff right now. He’s scheduled to face the Twins at home next weekend.     • Jones strikes out eight in seven innings in win
      Jared Jones allowed two runs in seven innings and got the win in the Pirates’ 4-3 victory over the Rays on Saturday.



      Advice: Jones gave up three hits, walked three and struck out eight. Tampa Bay couldn’t get much offense going against Jones. The Rays scored on an RBI groundout by Josh Lowe in the first inning and an RBI single by Ben Rortvedt in the fourth inning. The win was his fifth of the season. Jones’ ERA is down to 3.66 with a SO:BB of 93:25 this year. The 22-year-old rookie right-hander is set to face the Braves on the road next weekend.

    • Jared Jones fires seven strong in win over Rays
      Jared Jones struck out eight while allowing two runs in seven innings Saturday to get a win over the Rays.

      Advice: Jones gave up just three hits, and while he did issue three walks, the strikeouts were able to get him out of the majority of jams. The only blemishes were a fielder’s choice that scored a run in the first and an RBI single by Ben Rortvedt in the fourth.       Musgrove (elbow) lightly threw weighted plyometric balls Thursday, per MLB.com.

      Advice: A previous report indicated Musgrove could play catch mid-week, but it turns out the extent of his throwing was the work he did with the plyo balls. The workout was, however, a step in his progression toward playing catch, which could happen before the end of the month.       Lindor went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Cubs.

      Advice: The veteran shortstop led off the first and fourth innings with doubles as the Mets' offense erupted once again in an 11-1 rout. It's Lindor's sixth multi-hit performance in June, and on the month he's slashing .294/.364/.529 with seven doubles, three homers, four steals, eight RBI and 15 runs in 17 contests.       Machado went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 9-5 win over the Brewers.

      Advice: Machado has multiple hits in four of his last five games, going 10-for-21 in that span. The third baseman was batting just .240 at the start of June, but he's pushed that up to .263 with a .704 OPS, seven home runs, five stolen bases, 37 RBI and 32 runs scored across 72 contests this season.       Ohtani went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and two walks in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Angels.

      Advice: The Dodgers only had seven total baserunners in the contest, and the hitters behind Ohtani in the order went a combined 0-for-16. He has logged multiple hits in five of his last six games, and he's swatted five homers with 11 RBI in that span.
