    • Charlie Morton gives up five runs in loss to Yanks
Charlie Morton struggled in a losing effort against the Yankees on Saturday night, giving up five runs on five hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 40-year-old hurler also issued five free passes on the night while striking out four opposing batters. Morton served up a two-run homer to Aaron Judge in the opening inning, then the Yankees scratched out single runs in the third and fourth innings before chasing Morton while scoring a run in the sixth. Morton generated 11 swings and misses on 97 pitches on the night — nine of them on his curveball — while posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll attempt to bounce back and improve upon his 4.20 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and an 80/35 K/BB ratio (79 1/3 innings) when he squares off against the White Sox in Chicago on Thursday. • Randy Vasquez fires five scoreless in win Saturday
Randy Vasquez pitched well in Saturday’s victory over the Brewers, scattering five hits over five scoreless innings of work.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander also issued three free passes in the contest while striking out three. The biggest threat against him came in his final inning of work, as the Brewers put two men on with two outs and William Contreras crushed a ball to the wall in center field that came up just short of being a three-run homer. Vasquez generated just three whiffs on 98 pitches on the day, registering a minuscule CSW of only 17 percent. He’ll look to carry over the momentum from this fine outing as he brings a 5.10 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and a 31/12 K/BB ratio (47 2/3 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. • Strikes out 10 in win
Taillon (4-3) earned the win against the Mets on Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts over seven innings.

Advice: Taillon was excellent Saturday, with a solo home run by Francisco Alvarez in the fifth inning being his only blemish. He generated an impressive 15 swinging strikes on 93 pitches and notched a season-high 10 punchouts. Taillon has logged three consecutive quality starts and now owns a 2.90 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 53:16 K:BB over 68.1 innings this season. The 32-year-old lines up for a start against the Giants next week. • Allows three runs in loss
Maeda (2-4) took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

Advice: Maeda tossed three scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the fourth. He then yielded two hits in the fifth before being pulled at 92 pitches, and an inherited runner scored on an RBI single by Andrew Vaughn. Maeda has not registered a quality start since May 1 and has only completed five or more innings in six of his 13 starts this season. The 36-year-old owns a 6.00 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 41:18 K:BB over 54 innings and lines up against the Angels next week. Rotowire.com Today, 5:34 pm

    • Put on IL
Sandoval was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left elbow strain.

Advice: Sandoval was removed from Friday's start in the third inning with what was initially labeled left forearm tightness, but he's actually dealing with an elbow strain. While he becomes eligible to return from the IL in early July, the Angels could opt to play it safe with the 27-year-old and keep him out until the All-Star break. Guillermo Zuniga was called up in a corresponding move, though Zuniga won't take Sandoval's spot in the rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 4:25 pm
    • Angels place Patrick Sandoval (elbow) on 15-day IL
Angels placed LHP Patrick Sandoval on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow strain.

Advice: No word yet on the result of Sandoval’s MRI exam, but it’s not surprising in the slightest to see him wind up on the injured list after he exited Friday night’s start with tightness in his forearm. It remains unclear how long he’ll ultimately be shelved for. Guillo Zuniga was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 4:21 pm
    • Montas allows two in six innings in no-decision
Frankie Montas allowed two runs in six innings and got a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Montas gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four. He was in line for the win until the Reds bullpen gave up the lead in the eighth inning. Montas has now won just one of his last 12 starts, though he was able to post his fourth quality start of the season. His ERA is now 4.48 on the year. The 31-year-old right-hander is set to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.

    • Henry hammered for six runs against Phillies
Tommy Henry allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Phillies on Saturday.

Advice: Henry gave up six hits, walked two and struck out two. He allowed two runs in the first inning on a Bryce Harper RBI single and Nick Castellanos sacrifice fly. Henry allowed back-to-back home runs to Harper and Alec Bohm in the third inning. His ERA is now up to 7.04 with a SO:BB of 30:18 in seven starts. The 26-year-old left-hander is set to face the Athletics at home next weekend if he isn’t optioned to Triple-A before then.

    • JP Sears roughed up for eight runs in 1 1/3 innings
JP Sears was shellacked for eight runs in just 1 1/3 innings to pick up a loss Saturday to the Twins.

Advice: Oof magoof. Sears gave up nine hits to the Twins on Sunday as well, but that was over 4 1/3 innings. Eight of the runs came in the second frame in a start that showed what can happen when Sears doesn’t have his best command. The poor results of the last two outings have seen his ERA balloon to 5.04, but he’ll get a chance to turn it around next weekend against the Diamondbacks. Rotoworld Today, 3:41 pm
