      Yordan Alvarez is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s matchup against the Brewers.

      Advice: It’s a rare and well-deserved night off for the 26-year-old slugger, who will still probably appear off the bench in a critical spot on Friday night.       Aaron Judge doubled twice on Thursday in the Yankees’ win over the Twins.

      Advice: Judge scalded a pair of doubles in this one that carried exit velocities over 108 mph and traveled over 400 feet, but wound up staying in the yard at spacious Target Field in Minnesota. He finished 2-for-3 with a walk, reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances in the one-sided affair. The 32-year-old former AL MVP has rebounded from a frosty start at the dish this season, batting .396 (19-for-48) with five homers and nine doubles in 14 contests since the start of May.     • Tyler O’Neill not in the Red Sox lineup on Thursday
      Tyler O’Neill is not in the lineup on Thursday as the Red Sox take on the Rays.

      Advice: After getting off to a torrid start, O’Neill has struggled of late. Since his collision with Rafael Devers in the outfield on April 15th which landed O’Neill on the concussion IL, the outfielder has hit just .219 with three home runs and a 41.5 percent strikeout rate. He was hitting .313 with seven home runs and a 21 percent strikeout rate prior. While the early season sample size is small, it’s worth noting that concussion symptoms can linger, as we saw with Anthony Rizzo last year. Perhaps it’s just a cold stretch, but maybe O’Neill is still feeling some effects of the head injury.       Angels activated INF/OF Luis Rengifo from the 10-day injured list.

      Advice: The Angels tried to keep Rengifo on the active roster, but after he missed five games, they decided to put him on the injured list last Thursday. A week later, he’s returning to the fold and should likely remain an everyday player for the Angels given how banged up their lineup is.       The Angels activated Rengifo (illness) from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

      Advice: Rengifo missed the last week and a half with a viral illness which resulted in painful blisters on his feet. He's recovered now, though, and should be back in the lineup when the Angels return to action Friday in Texas against the Rangers.     • Homers in Wednesday's loss
      Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Angels.

      Advice: Goldschmidt is on a five-game hitting streak, having gone 7-for-23 (.304) with two homers and four RBI in that span. The burst of offense has doubled his homer total for the year to four, and he's up to 15 RBI, 20 runs scored, two stolen bases and three doubles while slashing .206/.291/.300 across 41 contests. Goldschmidt sat out a game just prior to his current streak, so it appears the mental reset is paying off in the short term, though his counting stats are unlikely to improve much if the team around him doesn't collectively start hitting better.       Judge went 4-for-4 with a solo home run, three doubles, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Twins.

      Advice: Judge opened the scoring with his first-inning solo shot and added an RBI double in the seventh. The outfielder has locked in with power over his last 10 games, going 16-for-36 (.444) with five homers, seven doubles, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored in that span. He was batting .207 at the end of April, but he's up to a .255/.386/.540 slash line with 11 homers, 29 RBI, 24 runs scored two stolen bases and 13 doubles over 44 contests.
