Contreras (forearm) expects to return before JulyWillson Contreras told reporters that he expects to return from his forearm injury before July.
Advice: When asked if he could return as a designated hitter instead of a backstop, Contreras answered with a convincing “hell no.” The backstop did say a return against Chicago next week seemed a little fast ,but he does appear like he’ll beat his All-Star game timeline. Willson Contreras continues making rapid progressWillson Contreras (forearm) progressed to throwing and catching on Thursday at Busch Stadium.
Advice: Contreras is making rapid progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a fractured left forearm and there’s optimism that he’ll be ready to return earlier than originally anticipated. The 32-year-old backstop wasn’t expected back until sometime around the All-Star break, but it’s looking like he could return before the end of the month, barring any setbacks. Advice: Diaz might want to consider relocating to the NL Central after homering for the third consecutive game on Wednesday afternoon against the Cardinals. Advice: Diaz's third-inning blast gave the Astros a 6-1 lead, which was ultimately enough for the win. The catcher sat out the first two games of June, and he's responded with homers in back-to-back contests after going 39 contests without a long ball. He's up to five homers, 28 RBI, 20 runs scored, 10 doubles and a .249/.277/.383 slash line through 213 plate appearances this season. Advice: Diaz put the exclamation point on a four-run third for the Astros when he sent a 367-foot shot to deep right field to put the Astros up 6-1. The homer marked Diaz’s fifth of the season, as he’s now homered in back-to-back games while driving in five runs over that span. Advice: Diaz will give way to Victor Caratini behind the plate for the second day in a row while he's in the midst of a prolonged slump at the plate. Dating back to May 1, Diaz is slashing .200/.213/.259 over a stretch of 25 games. Given that he's valued mainly for his contributions at the plate rather than as a pitch framer and game caller, Diaz's lengthy dry spell with the bat looks to be costing him playing time. The Astros have already pulled back on using Diaz as a designated hitter on days he doesn't catch; he started seven games at DH between March and April, but he hasn't made a start as the DH since May 17.
