    • Jon Gray (groin) to face live hitters on Monday
Jon Gray (groin) is scheduled to face live hitters on Monday.

Advice: The Rangers remain hopeful that Gray will only need a minimum stint on the injured list, so there’s a lot riding on Monday’s session. If all goes well there, he could be cleared to return to the rotation later in the week without needing a minor league rehab assignment. The 32-year-old hurler has been sidelined since May 22 due to a right groin strain. Rotoworld Today, 5:47 am

    • Scheduled for live batters
Gray (groin) is scheduled to face live hitters Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: A clearer indication of when Gray could return from the 15-day injured list should emerge following Monday's session. At the time of his placement on the IL, the right-hander wasn't expected to miss much more than the minimum 15 days. Per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, Gray could be an option to rejoin the Texas rotation as soon as Friday versus the Giants if Monday's live session goes off without a hitch. • Clubs third home run
Caballero went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored Sunday against the Orioles.

Advice: Caballero belted the first pitch of the seventh inning over the left-field wall for his third homer of the year. It was also his second hit of the day, representing his ninth multi-hit game in 54 games this season. The performance raised Caballero's average to .260 with three homers, 18 RBI, 27 runs and 20 steals in 28 attempts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:32 pm

    • Gavin Stone fans six in victory over Rockies
Gavin Stone was terrific in Sunday afternoon’s victory over the Rockies, racking up six strikeouts over five innings of shutout baseball.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander scattered four hits and a pair of walks on the day. He needed just 75 pitches (53 strikes) to navigate his five frames before turning the ball over to one of the best bullpens in all of baseball. Stone got 15 swings and misses in the ballgame — nine on his slider — while registering a CSW of 31 percent. He has been outstanding for the Dodgers this season, posting a 6-2 record, 2.90 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 47/19 K/BB ratio over 62 innings through his first 11 starts. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he takes on the Yankees in New York on Saturday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:12 pm

    • Another scoreless outing
Stone (6-2) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out six over five shutout innings to earn the win Sunday over the Rockies.

Advice: Stone has blanked the Mets and the Rockies over 12 innings across his last two starts. He had a 3.60 ERA as of May 21, but it's down to 2.90 with a 1.19 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB through 62 innings after his pair of scoreless outings. Stone's next start is projected to be much tougher, as he's lined up for a road outing versus the AL-leading Yankees. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:23 pm

    • Hand showing improvement
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Sunday that the swelling in Suarez's hand has improved significantly, and the left-hander could pick up a ball in the next day or two, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 28-year-old was struck in the left hand by a comebacker during Saturday's start against the Cardinals, but he's had X-rays come back negative and already appears to be progressing in his recovery. It remains to be seen if Suarez will be cleared for his next turn through the rotation, but he's certainly trending in the right direction. The Phillies also have three scheduled days off surrounding next weekend's two-game series versus the Mets in London, so the club could give Suarez some extra time between outings without needing an additional starter. • José Caballero goes 2-for-3, homers in Rays’ win
José Caballero went 2-for-3 with a homer Sunday as the Rays edged the Orioles 4-3.

Advice: Caballero has been a strikeout machine of late, but he managed to go without one for just the second time in 18 games today. He’s batting .260/.318/.370 on the season, but it just doesn’t seem likely that he’ll keep his average up like this with how often he fails to make contact. He currently has a .367 BABIP in spite of some of the weakest exit velocity numbers in the game. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:47 pm

    • Ranger Suárez (thumb) feels much improved Sunday
Ranger Suárez (thumb) reported feeling much improved on Sunday and there’s optimism from the team that he’ll be able to make his next scheduled start.

Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw was lifted from Saturday’s start after he was hit on his pitching hand by a comebacker, but the swelling went way down overnight and he’s feeling much better already. Phillies’ skipper Rob Thomson said they’ll wait a day or two before he attempts to throw, but it sounds like he’ll be able to take the hill as planned against the Mets in London next weekend. • Not in Sunday's lineup
Estrada (thumb) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The 28-year-old jammed his thumb Friday against New York and will sit Sunday for the second consecutive contest. Brett Wisely will shift to second base in place of Estrada while Casey Schmitt starts at shortstop. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:25 am
