    • Notches eighth save
Bednar struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning to earn a save over the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: Bednar retired the middle of Milwaukee's lineup in order to finish off the 8-6 win. He's converted eight of his 11 save chances this season, including seven in a row. However, he's registered a 6.94 ERA over his last 12 appearances since blowing a save chance against Detroit on April 9. Bednar has given up just one run over his last five frames and appears to be settling back into his usual groove. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:56 pm
    • Goes on IL with forearm strain
The Cubs placed Alzolay on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right forearm strain, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Alzolay netted a save in Sunday's extra-inning win over the Pirates, although he gave up two runs (one earned) in the process. The righty hasn't displayed strong form this season, collecting a 4.67 ERA and 13:6 K:BB over 17.1 innings. Hector Neris will continue to operate as the Cubs' primary closer. • Cubs put ex-closer Alzolay on IL due to forearm
Cubs placed RHP Adbert Alzolay on the 15-day injured list with a strained right forearm.

Advice: Those are never good. Alzolay, who also missed time with a forearm strain late last year, was bounced from the closer’s role in April after blowing his fourth save in seven tries. He had been reasonably effective of late and even picked up a save in a 10-inning game yesterday, but as a result of the injury, everyone holding on to him in fantasy leagues can probably move on now. Hector Neris has been the Cubs’ primary closer of late. Rotoworld Monday, 1:22 pm

    • Gives up two home runs
Buehler (0-1) took the loss Sunday against the Padres, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two in 3.1 innings.

Advice: The majority of the damage against Buehler came in the opening frame when Fernando Tatis and Jake Cronenworth smoked back-to-back solo home runs. Buehler would later exit with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth and was charged with an additional run. He struggled with his command in another abbreviated start, throwing 45 of 77 pitches for strikes, and generated only five whiffs. Buehler will carry a 7.36 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 6:2 K:BB over 7.1 innings into a meeting with the Reds. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:20 pm
    • Walker Buehler gives up three in loss to Padres
Walker Buehler struggled in Sunday afternoon’s loss against the Padres, giving up three runs on five hits over his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: Buehler also issued a pair of walks while striking out two batters on the afternoon. The bulk of the damage done against him came in the opening inning as Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth crushed back-to-back solo home runs. Buehler then exited with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth inning and was somewhat fortunate that only one of the inherited runners wound up scoring. Buehler got five swings and misses on 77 pitches on the day, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 19 percent. He’ll carry a disappointing 7.36 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 6/2 K/BB ratio (7 1/3 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Reds. Rotoworld Sunday, 5:36 pm
    • Adbert Alzolay gets extra inning save on Sunday
Adbert Alzolay allowed one run in one inning while securing his fourth save in a 5-4 extra-innings win over the Pirates on Sunday.

Advice: Hector Neris threw the ninth inning in a tie game and didn’t allow a run despite allowing two hits and walking one. Alzolay followed in the 10th and allowed a home run to Connor Joe that scored two, including the extra runner. It wasn’t a pretty effort and Alzolay still appears to be behind Neris and Mark Leiter Jr. in the closer hierarchy, but if Neris continues to look shaky than Alzolay has a chance to pitch himself back into the job. • Collects seventh save
Bednar gave up a run on two hits in the ninth inning Saturday to record his seventh save of the season in a 10-9 win over the Cubs.

Advice: The right-hander made things interesting, giving up back-to-back hits to begin the ninth and allowing the tying run to get to third base with two outs, but Bednar escaped the jam. He's converted his last six save chances but has been volatile while doing it, getting tagged for runs in five of 11 appearances over that stretch while posting an 8.38 ERA and 12:3 K:BB through 9.2 innings. Bednar still has a grip on the Pirates' closer role and there is incentive to keep him in the ninth inning and build his trade value. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:31 pm
    • David Bednar allows run, still picks up save
David Bednar picked up a save despite allowing a run against the Cubs on Saturday.

Advice: Bednar continues to pitch at a shaky level, but at least he was able to procure a save; his seventh of the season. The run allowed sees his ERA still sit at an unhealthy 9.64, and fantasy managers have a right to be a little discouraged by how Bednar has pitched over this first month-plus of the season. • Yields four runs over 5.1 innings
Cortes (1-4) took the loss Saturday in Tampa Bay, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Cortes had just eight walks all season coming into this outing and half of those came in his first two starts. He issued a season-high three free passes in this one, the first time since April 14 that he didn't go at least six frames. Cortes will try to bounce back his next time out in a favorable projected matchup at home against the White Sox. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:41 pm
