    • Fires seven frames in loss
Cortes (1-2) took the loss against Oakland on Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four batters over seven innings.

Advice: Cortes tossed a quality start for the third time in his past four outings, though he has added just one win to his ledger over that span. All of the runs the left-hander gave up Thursday came in the third inning via a pair of long balls. Despite notching just one victory across six appearances, Cortes has done pretty well so far this season, posting a 3.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 32:5 K:BB over 36 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 12:03 am
    • Reaches three times, swipes base
Betts went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and a stolen base against the Nationals in Thursday's 2-1 victory.

Advice: Betts scored the decisive run in the contest by walking, swiping second base and crossing the plate on a Freddie Freeman double in the eighth inning. Betts seems to be running more frequently so far this season -- the stolen base was his sixth of the campaign through 27 contests, putting him well on pace to reach 20 steals for the first time since 2018. That has to be sweet music to his fantasy managers' ears, and Betts is paying huge dividends in other areas as well, slashing .374/.477/.636 with six homers, 21 RBI and 27 runs. • Impressive again Thursday
Yamamoto (2-1) earned the win over Washington on Thursday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six scoreless innings.

Advice: Despite a rough season debut, Yamamoto has thus far lived up to the billing that netted him a 12-year, $325 million contract in the offseason, as he's tossed a scoreless outing of at least five frames in half of his six starts so far. The Japanese hurler's outing Thursday was his second straight quality start and lowered his season ERA to 3.54. Yamamoto also holds a 1.07 WHIP and 37:6 K:BB through 28 innings. • Nestor Cortes completes seven frames against A’s
Nestor Cortes was charged with three runs over seven innings on Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Cortes gave up third-inning homers to Nick Allen and Tyler Nevin, which accounted for all of the damage against him in this one, but didn’t get any run support from New York’s offense. The 29-year-old lefty will bring a serviceable 3.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 32/5 K/BB ratio across 36 innings (six starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the Orioles. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:38 pm
    • Mookie Betts tallies two hits, steals base in win
Mookie Betts went 2-for-3 with his sixth stolen base of the season on Thursday in the Dodgers’ win over the Nationals.

Advice: Betts continues to serve as Los Angeles’ primary offensive catalyst, which is even more unbelievable considering he’s playing shortstop everyday for the first time in his professional career. It’s unreal. The 31-year-old fantasy superstar’s latest multi-hit effort raises his batting average to a sublime .374 (40-for-107) mark to go along with 27 runs scored, six homers, 21 RBI and six steals through 27 games. • Framber Valdez to start Sunday in Mexico City
Framber Valdez (elbow) will start on Sunday against the Rockies in Mexico City.

Advice: Astros manager Joe Espada confirmed Thursday that Valdez will return this weekend after spending just over two weeks on the shelf with left elbow inflammation. The 30-year-old southpaw completed a 40-pitch bullpen session earlier this week and figures to have some workload limitations this weekend in Mexico City’s extremely hitter-friendly high-altitude environment. His return will provide Houston’s injury-depleted starting rotation with a significant lift, but he’s probably best left on the bench this weekend for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:33 pm
    • Starting Sunday in Mexico City
Astros manager Joe Espada said that Valdez (elbow) will return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Rockies in Mexico City, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Valdez has been on the IL since April 9 due to inflammation in his left elbow. He built up to 40 pitches in his last bullpen session Wednesday, so his first start back from the injured list will likely be an abbreviated one. In any case, his return will still give Houston's rotation a much-needed boost following the recent move of Cristian Javier (neck) to the IL. Valdez surrendered three earned runs and struck out 10 batters over 12.1 innings across his first two starts before getting injured. Given Valdez's expected workload restriction Sunday in addition to the high altitude in Mexico City likely creating a hitter-friendly environment, fantasy managers may want to hold off on immediately activating the southpaw. • Getting day off Thursday
Buxton is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: Buxton looks to be getting a routine day off, affording Austin Martin a turn in center field Thursday. Buxton has shown signs of life at the plate over his last eight games, slashing .323/.344/.613 with one homer run, four doubles and one triple during that stretch. • Contributes stolen base Wednesday
Polanco went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in a loss to the Rangers on Wednesday.

Advice: Polanco's struggles at the plate continued for the most part, with his average now sitting at a paltry .175 through 99 plate appearances. However, the veteran also sports a surprisingly solid .333 on-base percentage that's largely the result of his 18.9 percent walk rate. The free pass he drew Wednesday also led to his first stolen base of the campaign, and the combination of Polanco's career-low .234 BABIP and above-average 24.0 percent line-drive rate seems to imply his luck when putting the ball in play should start to turn soon.
