    • Gray hammered again for eight runs Thursday
Jon Gray allowed eight runs in five innings and took the loss against the Orioles on Thursday.

Advice: Gray gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out one. It’s the second time in his last three starts that Gray has allowed at least eight earned runs. In that time his ERA has increased from 2.17 to 3.77. The 32-year-old right-hander is set to face the Padres at home next week.

    • Burnes picks up ninth win in route Thursday
Corbin Burnes allowed one run in seven innings and got the win in the Orioles’ 11-2 victory over the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: Burnes gave up nine hits, walked none and struck out five. The win was his ninth of the year. Burnes was on cruise control in this one. Despite the nine hits, he allowed just one run on a solo home run off the bat of Adolis Garcia. Burnes lowered his ERA to 2.28 in the process. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mariners on the road next week.

    • Athletics outright Aaron Brooks to Triple-A
Athletics sent RHP Aaron Brooks outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Brooks passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain with Oakland moving forward as extra pitching depth. The 34-year-old journeyman righty has made five appearances (four starts) this season for the Athletics. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:45 pm
    • Patrick Sandoval undergoes elbow surgery
Patrick Sandoval underwent season-ending left elbow surgery on Wednesday.

Advice: No word yet whether Sandoval went a full Tommy John ligament replacement or a less invasive internal brace procedure. The 27-year-old southpaw is expected to miss most of, if not all, of the 2025 campaign. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:35 pm

    • Shuster gets win with three in relief
Jared Shuster picked up the win while throwing three scoreless innings in relief in the first game of a doubleheader against Atlanta.

Advice: Shuster came in to work three innings of bulk relief after Chad Kuhl exited after three frames. The 25-year-old is the 27th player for the doubleheader against Atlanta — Shuster’s former organization — and he made a case for staying up while striking out two and allowing just one hit. Shuster has pitched well in his limited chances with the White Sox, but even if he did get called up into a full-time role, there’s a lot working against him as a potential fantasy option. • Sale strikes out 11 in hard-luck loss to former team
Chris Sale struck out 11 over seven innings of one-run baseball, but picked up a loss Thursday as the White Sox beat Atlanta 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Advice: Sale was facing his former team in the White Sox, and while he gets credited for the loss, it was a dominant effort for the 35-year-old. The only blemish came when he gave up a solo homer to Luis Robert Jr. in the first, and he allowed just three more hits while missing plenty of bats. It’s the third time Sale has picked up double-digit strikeouts — the 11 are a season high — and he’s now the owner of a 2.79 ERA and 118/17 K/BB over 15 starts. He gets the Giants next. • Michael Kopech picks up save vs. Atlanta
Michael Kopech pitched a scoreless ninth to get a save Thursday against Atlanta.

Advice: Kopech didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout. That’s the sixth save of the season for the 28-year-old, and the scoreless frame lowered his ERA to a still-shaky 4.59 on the 2024 season. Kopech is a trade candidate that could be playing elsewhere, but his fantasy value would be severely limited if he’s not a closer. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:56 pm

    • Jordan Hicks strikes out seven, allows three vs. Cubs
Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff. In his first season with the Giants, Hicks had a 3.36 ERA, 76/33 K/BB and 1.28 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings in his 17 starts. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:51 pm

    • Shota Imanaga gets quality start against Giants
Shota Imanaga allowed three runs in six innings of work in a no-decision against the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Imanaga allowed five hits while walking two and fanning three. It’s a marked improvement over his struggled against the Mets on Friday where he allowed 10 runs on 3 1/3 innings, but far from the excellence that we saw from the southpaw earlier in the year. It’s worth noting he threw five scoreless in this one, however, before a three-spot came across in the sixth. He still picks up a quality start while possessing a strong — if climbing — 3.07 ERA. Expect more good than bad from Imanaga in the second half of 2024. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:51 pm
