    • Drives in run in Mets debut
Martinez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: He also struck out twice, but Martinez made a quick impact in his debut for the Mets, chasing Miles Mikolas from the game in the sixth inning with a run-scoring double. Martinez posted big numbers in only 113 games for the Dodgers last year, slashing .271/.321/.572 with 33 homers and 103 RBI, and once he's shaken off his rust the 36-year-old should be a potent addition to the middle of the New York batting order. • Homer, four hits in win
Smith went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three total RBI in Friday's 12-2 victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Smith slugged a solo home run off Trevor Richards in the fourth inning, his second long ball of the year. It's Smith's second straight four-hit game (he's gone 8-for-11 with three extra-base hits in that span) and already his fourth this season. The 29-year-old backstop is off to an excellent start, slashing a robust .376/.413/.527 with 21 RBI and 14 runs scored through his first 104 plate appearances. • J.D. Martinez goes 2-for-4 in Mets debut
J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in his Mets debut Friday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Martinez’s arrival failed to do much to spark the offense, but it was an encouraging first game for him. His double would have been a homer in eight ballparks, according to Statcast. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:45 pm

    • Will Smith homers, collects fourth four-hit game
Will Smith went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Advice: The 360-foot homer was actually just his third farthest hit ball of the night, as he also had a 374-foot sac fly and a 367-foot double. Smith has been spraying hits since day one, but the homer was just his second of the year. It’s his fourth four-hit game. Only three other players entered the day with even two of them (Mookie Betts with three and Yordan Alvarez and Ketel Marte with two apiece). Smith is batting .376/.413/.527 with 21 RBI in 24 games. • Giancarlo Stanton getting night off on Friday
Giancarlo Stanton is absent from the Yankees’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Brewers.

Advice: The 34-year-old slugger will get a night off after starting five straight games for the Bombers. Aaron Judge will serve as the team’s designated hitter on Friday night while Trent Grisham draws a rare start in center field and will bat ninth against Colin Rea and the Brewers. • J.D. Martinez batting fifth in Mets debut Friday
J.D. Martinez will bat fifth and serve as the designated hitter in his Mets’ debut on Friday night against the Cardinals.

Advice: It took a bit longer than anticipated, but finally the Mets get to add the 36-year-old slugger to the middle of their lineup. He wound up playing in just two games during his time at Triple-A Syracuse, going 3-for-8 with a double. He should be rostered in all fantasy formats at this point. Remember, he slashed .271/.321/.572 with 33 homers and 103 RBI in only 113 games for the Dodgers during the 2023 campaign. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:45 pm

    • Making another rehab start
Manager Dave Roberts said Friday on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Buehler (elbow) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday before potentially joining the Dodgers.

Advice: The right-hander threw 86 pitches and allowed five runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings Wednesday for Oklahoma City, and the Dodgers don't feel he's quite ready to make his 2024 debut. Buehler's performance in five starts during the rehab assignment has been underwhelming with a 4.86 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB over 16.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:30 pm

    • Out of lineup again Friday
Naylor is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Atlanta.

Advice: It's the second straight game on the bench for the left-handed hitting Naylor, with this one coming against southpaw Chris Sale. Austin Hedges will do the catching for Logan Allen. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:55 pm
    • Batting fifth in Mets debut
Martinez will start at designated hitter and bat fifth in Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: It will be Martinez's Mets and season debut after he was sent to the minors for a while following a late-March signing. The 36-year-old will be given extra days off in the early going as he gets his feet under him, but Martinez will eventually be the team's everyday DH. He slashed .271/.321/.572 with 33 home runs for the Dodgers last season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:27 pm
