    • Joey Estes obliterated for eight runs in loss
Joey Estes allowed seven hits and eight earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings on Tuesday against the Red Sox. He walked and struck out one batter each.

Advice: Estes was bad from the jump. The Red Sox smacked four straight hits to start the game and then opened the floodgates in the second inning with five more earned runs off Estes and eight in total. Estes’ velocity was also down a tick across the board. This game was a harsh reminder that he’s difficult to trust away from the Oakland Coliseum. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:30 pm

    • Maeda continues to struggle in 2024
Kenta Maeda allowed six runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Guardians on Tuesday.

Advice: The veteran now has a 7.26 ERA on the season, and it’s simply not working for him. 100 MLB pitchers have made at least 15 starts this season and Maeda is the only one with an ERA over 6.00. For more concerning stats, there are only 15 hitters in all of baseball who have an OPS over .860 this season; yet, opponents on average have an OPS of .871 against Maeda. The Tigers are going to need to turn the page soon and might have already if Matt Manning were pitching better in Triple-A. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:21 pm
    • Jose Quintana twirls seven shutout innings in win
Jose Quintana blanked the Nationals over seven innings on Tuesday. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed just one hit in a victory.

Advice: Quintana was spectacular in this one. This was his second straight start against this same Nationals club and the second straight where he shut them out over seven innings. That makes it 15 consecutive scoreless innings for Quintana who’s dropped his ERA from 5.29 on June 9th to 3.91 right now. He also ended this outing by retiring 13 consecutive batters and threw his fastest pitch of the season, a 93.7 MPH sinker. This is the best Quintana has looked as a Met. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:01 pm
    • Slated for rehab start Tuesday
Clevinger (elbow/neck) will make a rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Clevinger was originally scheduled to make another rehab start with Charlotte on Saturday, but that contest was rained out. Despite allowing seven runs over his last two outings spanning 7.2 innings, the 33-year-old right-hander appears close to returning to Chicago's rotation. Clevinger landed on the injured list May 28 due to right elbow inflammation, and his rehab program was paused in late June due to neck stiffness. He started in four games for the White Sox before landing on the IL, going 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.94 WHIP across 16 innings. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 3:38 pm
    • Removed from 40-man roster
The Mets designated Lucchesi for assignment Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The move comes after the Mets acquired reliever Phil Maton from the Rays on Tuesday. Lucchesi made a spot start for the big club May 15, allowing five runs over 4.1 innings in a loss to the Phillies. He went 5-4 over 15 starts with Triple-A Syracuse, posting a 4.20 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 63:34 K:BB across 83.2 innings. If Lucchesi clears waivers, the 31-year-old southpaw will decide whether to elect free agency or stay with the Mets as pitching depth at Triple-A. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:42 pm
    • Mets designate Joey Lucchesi for assignment
Mets designated LHP Joey Lucchesi for assignment.

Advice: Lucchesi has been removed from New York’s 40-man roster to make room for newly-acquired reliever Phil Maton. The 31-year-old lefty has made only one start this season for the Mets. He figures to generate some interest on waivers in the coming days. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:38 pm
    • Shifting to bullpen
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Tuesday that Mercado will move to the bullpen, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Mercado pitched well in his first major-league start against the Cubs last Tuesday but was then roughed up in his second outing in Atlanta on Sunday, coughing up five runs while recording just five outs. Tyler Phillips was effective in long relief of Mercado in the latter outing and will replace him in the rotation this weekend against the Athletics. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:08 pm

    • Activated from IL
The Pirates activated Priester (lat) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Priester has been shelved since June 6 due to a right lat injury, but after making a pair of rehab starts, Pittsburgh determined he was ready to rejoin the active roster. The 24-year-old completed five innings in his latest rehab outing and could take the spot of Jared Jones (lat) in the Pirates rotation, which would put him on track to start Sunday against the White Sox. Priester holds a 4.83 ERA across 31.2 innings with the Pirates this season. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:50 am
    • Pirates activate Priester (lat) from 15-day IL
Pirates activated RHP Quinn Priester from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Priester is off the injured list after missing close to a month with a right lat strain. The right-hander has made six starts for the Pirates and could be the bulk arm for Pittsburgh for Tuesday’s contest against the Brewers. Edward Olivares was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding transaction. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:44 am
