      David Bednar tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Twins on Friday.

      Advice: The save was Bednar’s 13th of the season. He blew three of his first four save opportunities this season, but since then he’s converted on 12 consecutive save chances.       The Astros announced that Cristian Javier underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Thursday.

    • Nabs 16th save
      Iglesias pitched a perfect inning to earn a save against the Nationals on Thursday.

      Advice: Iglesias made quick work of Washington in the ninth inning, needing just nine pitches to set the side down in order. The veteran closer has converted each of his past eight save chances, allowing three runs over 10 frames during that span. Iglesias hasn't been punching out batters at his usual rate this season -- he has just 16 strikeouts through 23.1 innings -- but he nonetheless is tied for fifth in the majors with 16 saves (in 18 chances).       Assad (4-2) allowed five runs on seven hits across 5.2 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Reds. He walked two and struck out seven.

      Advice: Assad flashed his skill with the seven strikeouts, which tied for his second most in a game this year, but he was ultimately done in by a three-run Elly De La Cruz home run in the third inning. The righty still has a solid 2.74 ERA and 68 strikeouts across 69 innings this season, as he's performed well in his first extended run as a full-time starter for the Cubs.     • Assad allows five in loss to Reds Thursday
      Javier Assad allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Reds on Thursday.



      Advice: Assad gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out seven. He was replaced by Luke Little in a 4-4 game in the sixth inning and the run that scored on TJ Friedl’s RBI double was charged to Assad. The five earned runs were the most allowed in any start by Assad this year. His ERA is now 2.74, but his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.98.     • Railes Iglesias gets 16th save Thursday
      Raisel Iglesias tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Nationals on Thursday.



      Advice: The save was Iglesias’ 16th of the season, but his lack of strikeouts this season is evident. He has struck out seven in his last 12 innings. Iglesias’ 17 percent strikeout percentage on the season is by far the lowest of his career and could catch up with him eventually. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:02 pm
       
    • Short outing vs. Cleveland
      Singer didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Guardians, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and a walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: Singer's final line could've been much worse, as he matched a season high with nine hits allowed while failing to make it through four innings. Prior to Thursday, Singer hadn't allowed more than one earned run in five of his last six outings. Overall, the 27-year-old right-hander is 4-2 on the year with a 2.76 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 66:20 K:BB across 12 starts (65.1 innings) this season.       Manager Brian Snitker said Thursday that Minter (hip) has been playing catch with no issues and will pitch an inning at some point next week, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

      Advice: The team has not yet determined whether or not Minter's next step will come during live batting practice or in a minor-league rehab game.     • Rebounds for 12th save
      McArthur delivered a perfect ninth inning Thursday to earn the save in a 4-3 win over the Guardians.

      Advice: It was an encouraging outing from McArthur, who allowed four runs without recording an out in his last save opportunity. However, he's now recorded back-to-back hitless innings in his subsequent two appearances. Overall, McArthur is 12-for-16 in save chances with a 4.91 ERA and 1.36 WHIP despite an impressive 23:3 K:BB. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:35 pm
