    • Tanner Houck punches out seven in 5 ⅔ innings
      Tanner Houck couldn’t get through the sixth inning against the Rays, but still managed to strike out seven and allow just two earned runs in a loss Wednesday. He also gave up five hits and three walks.

      Advice: Houck was humming along until back-to-back singles in the sixth inning sent Alex Cora to the bullpen with Houck at 112 pitches, the highest total of his career. Greg Weissert then allowed both inherited runners to score, spoiling Houck’s chance for a victory. Still solid, he’s looked more mortal in his last three starts with a 3.86 ERA and 20.0 K%.     • Andrés Muñoz slams door on Royals on Wednesday
      Andrés Muñoz slammed the door on the Royals on Wednesday afternoon, recording the final five outs to protect a two-run lead and earn his seventh save of the season.

      Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander came on with runners at second and third with one out in the eighth inning and the Mariners leading 4-1. He did allow a run to score as Bobby Witt Jr. grounded out to second base, but then Muñoz punched out Vinnie Pasquantino to end the threat. He returned for the ninth where he allowed a leadoff double to Salvador Perez but nothing more — finishing the frame with a pair of strikeouts. He now holds a 1.47 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and a 24/7 K/BB ratio (18 1/3 innings) to go along with seven saves and a pair of wins on the season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:54 pm
       
    • Cruises by Giants for win
      Stone (4-1) got the win Tuesday against the Giants, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out two over six innings.

      Advice: Stone walked more batters than he struck out, which is never ideal, but he generated a bunch of soft contact with the only run against him coming off a base hit in the sixth inning. That's now four straight quality starts for Stone during which he's allowed one run in each. Over his last six starts, the 25-year-old boasts a 2.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB in 36 innings. The strikeouts aren't there but Stone continues to give the Dodgers excellent length and tentatively lines up to face Arizona at home to begin next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:24 am
       
    • Dominant in Tuesday's win
      Sale (6-1) picked up the win in Tuesday's 7-0 victory over the Cubs, scattering two hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

      Advice: The veteran southpaw simply overmatched Chicago's hitters, and the only runner to get into scoring position against Sale came after one of his two HBPs on the night. He generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 92 pitches as he produced his second straight quality start and fourth of the season. Sale will take a 2.54 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and eye-popping 61:8 K:BB through 49.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Padres.     • Stuck with loss in nightcap
      Parker (2-2) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over five-plus innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: The rookie southpaw got little support in a 4-0 loss, with all the damage off him coming on a three-run blast by Andrew Vaughn in the third inning. Parker exited after 82 pitches (50 strikes), and after not serving up a homer in his first four big-league starts, he's been taken deep three times in his last two. He'll carry a 3.09 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB through 32 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Twins. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:13 am
       
    • Hangs on for fifth save
      Megill earned the save Tuesday against the Pirates, allowing a solo home run and no walks with two strikeouts across one inning.

      Advice: Megill entered the contest with two runs of cushion and managed to secure his fifth save of the campaign despite allowing a solo homer to Connor Joe with two outs in the ninth.     • Gavin Stone holds Giants to one run in victory
      Gavin Stone pitched six innings, allowing just one run, in the Dodgers’ 10-2 drubbing of the Giants on Tuesday.

      Advice: Stone struck out only two and walked three tonight, but there wasn’t much hard contact from the injury-riddled Giants lineup. It’s Stone’s fourth straight quality start, and he’s now 4-1 with a 3.27 ERA overall. We don’t think he’s really this good, but since he definitely pitches for the right team, he’s worth playing in mixed leagues. Rotoworld Tuesday, 10:21 pm

      Gilbert (3-2) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over 6.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Royals.

      Advice: Gilbert allowed just four baserunners over the first six innings. He went back out for the seventh, but two walks and a Nelson Velazquez home run ended his outing in unfortunate fashion. It's a significant improvement on the eight-run fiasco he had in Minnesota in his last start, but it's still a second straight loss for 27-year-old. He's pitched to a 3.07 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 61:18 K:BB over 58.2 innings across nine starts this season. Gilbert is projected for a tough road start versus the Yankees his next time out.     • Logan Gilbert takes loss in quality start
      Logan Gilbert lost to the Royals after allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday.

      Advice: All of the runs scored on Nelson Velázquez’s homer with two outs in the seventh, after which Gilbert was immediately removed. Obviously, it was an unfortunate conclusion, but it was still a nice rebound outing after he gave up eight runs last time out versus the Twins.
