    • On track to return Monday
Steele (hamstring) will start Monday against the Padres as long as he gets through a bullpen session Saturday with no issues, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: The results of Steele's lone rehab start weren't great -- he allowed three runs on six hits over 3.1 innings -- but he feels good and has put his hamstring injury in the rearview mirror, which is the most important thing. Steele threw 63 pitches in his rehab outing Wednesday, so he will be somewhat limited from a workload perspective Monday, assuming he is indeed cleared to rejoin the Cubs' rotation that day. • Throwing bullpen Saturday
Steele (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, after which he will be reevaluated to determine whether he's potentially ready to rejoin the big-league rotation, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: The left-hander felt good after he allowed three runs on six hits over 3.1 innings during a rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, and he's now rejoined the Cubs to determine whether another rehab start is necessary. Steele could step back into Chicago's rotation early next week if all goes well during Saturday's bullpen session. Rotowire.com Today, 8:23 am

    • Justin Steele scheduled for BP session Saturday
Justin Steele (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: Steele went 3 1/3 innings in a rehab start at Triple-A Iowa where he allowed three runs on six hits earlier this week. The 28-year-old is now back in Chicago where he’ll continue to work to get back to full strength. The expectation was that Steele only needed one rehab assignment before getting back to major league action, so we’ll see how he does this weekend and await next steps from the team. • On base three times in win
Nimmo went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and two RBI in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Cubs.

Advice: The 31-year-old is coming to life from the leadoff spot, reaching base multiple times in five of his last seven starts and batting .286 (8-for-28) over that stretch with a .394 OBP. Nimmo's .216/.365/.360 slash line on the season remains disappointing for fantasy purposes, but he's chipped in three homers, two steals, 15 runs and 20 RBI in 30 contests. • Double, RBI in loss
O'Neill went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and an RBI in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Giants.

Advice: O'Neill had a terrific first month in a Boston uniform and continues to outperform his career standards. The outfielder, who is one plate appearance shy of qualifying, has a 1.096 OPS which ranks second in MLB behind only Mookie Betts. Rotowire.com Today, 4:16 am
    • Set for bullpen session
Cole (elbow) is expected to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Cole will throw off a mound for the first time since being placed on the 60-day injured list with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow in late March. The 33-year-old is reportedly targeting a return in "mid June," according to Heyman. The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the IL on May 27, but it appears as if he will remain sidelined for awhile longer than that. With his pedigree, it comes as no surprise that the Yankees are being cautious with their ace, who produced a 2.63 ERA with a 9.6 K/9 over 209 innings in 33 starts last year. • Report: Gerrit Cole targeting mid-June return
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports Gerrit Cole (elbow) is now targeting a mid-June return.

Advice: Heyman adds that Cole is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on Saturday as he works his way back from nerve inflammation in his right elbow. The 33-year-old fantasy ace should progress to facing hitters in the coming weeks before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. He was originally aiming for a late-May return, but it sounds like the Yankees don’t want to rush him back and risk a setback. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:42 pm

    • Homers vs. Yankees
Mountcastle went 2-for-4 with a home run, two total RBI and an additional run scored in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Mountcastle got the Orioles on the board in the third inning with a solo shot off Carlos Rodon, tying the game 1-1. He'd add a second RBI with a base hit in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-1, before scoring on a Jordan Westburg triple. It was a nice finish to the series for the 27-year-old Mountcastle, who'd gone 0-for-12 in the first three games against New York. The first baseman boosted his slash line to .290/.345/.495 with five homers, 16 RBI and 18 runs scored through 28 games this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:25 pm
    • Tyler O’Neill drives in run, reaches three times
Tyler O’Neill drove in a run while reaching three times in a loss to the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: O’Neill was responsible for the only run of the game for the Red Sox with a double off Kyle Harrison in the third that scored Rafael Devers. O’Neill was also able to draw a pair of walks, and he improves his line in 2024 to .309/.429/.667. Calling his first month-plus as a member of the Red Sox is quite the understatement.
