• Joe Musgrove (elbow) could resume throwing soon
Padres’ manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Joe Musgrove (elbow) could resume throwing soon.

Advice: The 31-year-old hurler is dealing with elbow inflammation and soreness in his right triceps — and was given a cortisone shot and PRP injection after an MRI revealed that a bone spur was causing his issues. Shildt didn’t give any specifics regarding a specific timeline for Musgrove’s return, but if he starts throwing soon that’s at least an encouraging sign. He shouldn’t be expected back until after the All-Star break. Rotoworld Saturday, 5:25 pm

  • Could resume throwing soon
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Musgrove (elbow) is getting closer to picking up a ball and starting a throwing program, per MLB.com.

Advice: Musgrove was diagnosed with a bone spur in his right elbow in early June and consequently received PRP and cortisone injections. While Shildt said Friday that the veteran pitcher could resume throwing soon, he didn't give specifics on a timeline. Given that Musgrove dealt with a similar injury in May, the Padres are unlikely to rush him back, and he's probably at least a month away from a return. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:16 pm

  • Could rejoin rotation next week
The Yankees are expected to decide this weekend whether Cole (elbow) will need another rehab start or if he's ready to return from the 60-day injured list, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Cole was dominant in his third rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday, pitching 4.1 innings during which he allowed an unearned run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10 batters. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner tossed 70 pitches in the outing, so he'd likely have his workload managed to some extent if his next trip to the mound is with the big club. If it's determined that Cole needs another rehab start, it would be for ramp-up reasons rather than due to effectiveness -- he's dominated minor leaguers in his three appearances, posting a 19:0 K:BB while allowing just one earned run over 12.1 frames. Should Cole next move back into the Yankees' rotation, his season debut could come during the team's three-game set versus Baltimore next week. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:23 am

  • Gerrit Cole strikes out 10 in final rehab start
Gerrit Cole delivered a dominant performance in his final minor league rehab start at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday night, racking up 10 strikeouts over his 4 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: Cole surrendered just an unearned run on two hits on the night and didn’t walk a batter. He threw 70 pitches — 46 of them for strikes. The Yankees plan to meet in the next day or two to discuss Cole’s status, but it would be shocking at this point if his next start didn’t come in pinstripes. Rotoworld Friday, 5:27 pm

  • One more rehab start
Rodriguez (back) will make one more rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: The Blue Jays were considering bringing Rodriguez back from the 15-day injured list to make a start this weekend against the Guardians after he struck out 10 over four shutout innings in his most recent rehab start Tuesday. However, the club has opted to get him stretched out a bit more before likely activating the right-hander next weekend. Rodriguez has been out since late April with thoracic spine inflammation. • Cole (elbow) set for Triple-A rehab start
Gerrit Cole (elbow) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Advice: Cole is getting closer to returning to the big leagues. Depending on how things go for him on Friday, he may be ready to make his next start in the major leagues. That would be a huge boon for the Yankees and fantasy managers. Rotoworld Friday, 12:41 pm

  • Next rehab start set
Cole (elbow) will make a third rehab a start Friday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Advice: The right-hander threw 57 pitches over 4.2 innings during his second rehab outing Sunday, and he'll move up to the Triple-A level as he continues building up his workload. Manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday, "we'll see" when asked if it will be Cole's final rehab start, so it's possible he's cleared to make his season debut for the Yankees next week. • Poised to return this weekend
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that the club is considering activating Rodriguez (back) from the 15-day injured list to start either Saturday versus the Guardians, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Rodriguez was terrific in his latest and likely final rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, striking out 10 over four shutout innings while scattering three hits and one walk. He would be starting on short rest if he's brought back Saturday, but the club is considering it because it prefers giving Jose Berrios an extra day of rest before his next outing, which would fall Sunday. If Rodriguez is in fact tabbed to fill the opening in the rotation Saturday, he could be deployed as part of a tandem with Bowden Francis, who had been occupying the No. 5 spot in the rotation following Alek Manoah's (elbow) move to the IL. • Blue Jays still plan for Yariel Rodriguez to start
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said the team “would like for [Yariel Rodriguez] to start” and he could even be up this weekend.

Advice: The team is deciding when Rodriguez will be called up, but it seems likely to happen this weekend. They could push Jose Berrios up to Saturday on regular rest and start Yariel Rodriguez on Sunday, but they seem to be inclined to give Berrios extra rest, which would mean starting Rodriguez on short rest on Saturday. The Blue Jays seem committed to Rodríguez as a starter even though most of his international success has come in a multi-inning relief role. Even in his first MLB stint failed to pitch more than four innings in any of his four starts. According to Schneider, the Blue Jays are “viewing him to be pitching on a regular turn” and that is driving their decision-making in how to fill Alek Manoah’s spot in the rotation. Until Rodríguez proves he can pitch deep into games, he will be off the fantasy radar unless the Blue Jays use an opener in front of him. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:54 am
