    • Gerrit Cole (elbow) may face hitters next week
Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake told reporters Saturday that Gerrit Cole (elbow) may progress to facing hitters next week.

Advice: Blake added that Cole was throwing in the low 90’s during Saturday’s bullpen session, elaborating that he’s a notch ahead of a typical spring training progression, but remains several weeks from returning. The 33-year-old reigning AL Cy Young Award winner isn’t expected back until sometime in mid-June. Rotoworld Saturday, 9:15 am

    • Blake Snell strikes out 10 in rehab start Friday
Blake Snell (adductor) recorded 10 strikeouts over five hitless innings on Friday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: He’s ready. The plan all along had been for Snell to rejoin the Giants’ rotation next week as long as this start went well, and he was nearly perfect, allowing just one walk over five frames. The 31-year-old reigning NL Cy Young Award winner should slot back into San Francisco’s rotation against the Pirates in Pittsburgh next week. Prior to landing on the injured list, Snell had gone 0-3 with a bloated 11.57 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 12/5 K/BB ratio across 11 2/3 innings (three starts). Rotoworld Saturday, 3:30 am

    • Dominant in first MLB win
Skenes (1-0) earned the win over the Cubs on Friday, issuing just one walk while striking out 11 over six hitless, scoreless innings.

Advice: Skenes was lights out in his second big-league start -- he struck out the first seven batters he faced while holding the Cubs without a baserunner until Michael Busch's one-out walk in the fifth inning. Skenes has been as advertised to start his career, averaging 99.3 MPH with his fastball Friday and generating a 44 percent whiff rate with the pitch. The 21-year-old right-hander has allowed three runs through his first 10 innings while striking out 18. Skenes will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which tentatively lines up as a home matchup with the Giants. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:33 pm

    • Paul Skenes goes six hitless, fans 11 in first win
Paul Skenes pitched no-hit ball for six innings, striking out 11, in the Pirates’ 9-3 win over the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: Skenes was overwhelming in striking out the first seven batters he faced, and he didn’t let up much after that. He allowed only one hard-hit ball, a 107-mph groundout from Miguel Amaya. In fact, six of his seven non-strikeout outs came on grounders. It was a clear step forward from his debut last week and even a little extra impressive because it came against a lineup that had just seen him. Rotoworld Friday, 2:25 pm

    • Quintana goes five innings in no-decision
Jose Quintana allowed four hits and two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings and picked up a no-decision in the Mets’ 6-5 victory over the Phillies on Thursday.

Advice: Quintana had only thrown 81 pitches when he was removed with runners on first and second and one out in the bottom of the sixth. Those runs scored on Alec Bohm’s double and Nick Castellanos’ sacrifice fly. Quintana struck out four and lowered his ERA to 5.21 on the season. The 35-year-old left-hander is set to face the Guardians on the road in his next start.

    • Rebounds in no-decision
Quintana didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Phillies, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

Advice: After surrendering 12 earned runs across his previous two starts, Quintana delivered a solid outing against Philadelphia. He didn't allow an extra-base hit during the start, and both the runs against him came after Quintana was pulled. He allowed J.T. Realmuto and Bryce Harper to reach on consecutive singles before being replaced by Reed Garrett, who surrendered an RBI single and a sac fly immediately after. Through nine starts, Quintana owns a 5.21 ERA with a 32:18 K:BB across 46.2 innings. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:22 pm
    • Throws again Tuesday
Cole (elbow) threw approximately 36 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, per MLB.com.

Advice: Cole continues to incrementally increase his pitch count during his throwing sessions -- his previous bullpen took place Saturday and included 29 pitches. The veteran right-hander sat at around 89 mph with his fastball in that session, so he appears to still have a ways to go to get back up to full speed, but so far his recovery seems to be going smoothly, with manager Aaron Boone characterizing Cole's outlook as "onward and upward." There's no indication yet of when Cole may begin a rehab assignment, but he isn't likely to be activated off the IL until after the start of June. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:15 am

    • Pitches well in loss
Cease (5-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Rockies, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out eight over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Cease blanked the Rockies through three before Ryan McMahon took him deep to lead off the fourth. He then ran into some trouble in the sixth, allowing an additional run before being pulled with two outs in the inning and being charged with a third run before the frame concluded. It was just the second time this year Cease has failed to complete six innings and his first since his season debut. The strikeouts continue to pile up, as he's punched out at least eight in four of his last five starts and is second in the majors with 68 over 55 innings. He now owns a 2.45 ERA and 0.78 WHIP and lines up for a tough test on the road against Atlanta next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:55 am

    • Fans six in no-decision
Civale came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Red Sox, giving up three runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander kept Boston off the board his first time through the order, but a two-run double by Dominic Smith in the fourth inning and a solo shot by Ceddanne Rafaela in the fifth sent Civale packing after 76 pitches (53 strikes). He's failed to last more than five innings in any of his last five starts, a stretch in which he's stumbled to an 8.87 ERA and 1.71 WHIP, and his rotation spot could be in jeopardy if he doesn't turn things around by the time Ryan Pepiot (leg) and Shane Baz (elbow) are ready to rejoin the team. Civale lines up to make his next start on the road this weekend in Toronto. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 12:49 am
