• Takes loss Tuesday
Avila (0-1) allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over three innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Tigers.

Advice: Guardians starter Logan Allen was pulled in the third inning after allowing a tying run that knotted the game at 7-7. Avila was better in a longer relief appearance, but he was tagged with the loss due to a lack of offense from Cleveland after that point. Avila has pitched to a 6.11 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB over 17.2 innings across eight appearances between Cleveland and San Diego this season. His ERA is 3.72 across four outings with the Guardians, but it's still possible Avila loses his place on the 26-man roster once Eli Morgan (shoulder) completes a rehab assignment. • Returns to Triple-A
The Brewers optioned Black to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Advice: After being called up from Nashville last Tuesday, Black got a look in a near-everyday role, starting in five of the Brewers' ensuing seven games. However, the 23-year-old managed just five hits while striking out eight times in 22 at-bats in his first taste of the big leagues, prompting the Brewers to pull the plug on him with Christian Yelich (back) returning from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Black should continue to see regular playing time at Nashville and will likely be one of the top options for a call-up if the Brewers need an extra corner infielder at any point. • Sent down to minors
The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Advice: Harris was up with the big club for only a couple days, allowing four runs over 5.1 innings in an extended relief appearance Tuesday versus the Rangers. He should slide back into Las Vegas' rotation. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • Lands on injured list
The Athletics placed Hernaiz on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left ankle injury.

Advice: Hernaiz suffered the injury during Tuesday's contest versus the Rangers when he stepped awkwardly on first base while trying to beat out an infield hit. It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined. Max Schuemann and Brett Harris could handle shortstop for the A's while Hernaiz is out. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

  • Activated, starting Wednesday
The Brewers reinstated Yelich (back) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll serve as the Brewers' designated hitter and will bat third in the team's series finale in Kansas City.

Advice: Milwaukee optioned infielder Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Yelich, who had been on the shelf since April 16 with a lower-back strain. Despite missing well beyond the minimum 10 days, Yelich will return to the lineup without having gone on a minor-league rehab assignment, as the Brewers were encouraged enough with how his back responded to baseball activities over the past few days to activate him. He'll be eased back into action in a non-defensive role, and Yelich could end up seeing more work at DH over the next week or two before gradually settling into his usual spot in left field. • Recalled from Triple-A
The Athletics recalled Bido from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Advice: Bido will start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Rangers. The right-hander boasts a 2.59 ERA and 39:13 K:BB across 31.1 innings with Las Vegas this season. With Joe Boyle (back) sidelined, Bido could stick around for a while. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

  • Joins major-league roster
The Athletics recalled Soderstrom from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Advice: Soderstrom has slashed .245/.353/.529 with seven home runs over 27 games at Las Vegas this season. The 22-year-old managed just a .472 OPS and 31.2 percent strikeout rate with the A's last season. Soderstrom will give Oakland a third catcher and could also see some action at first base and/or designated hitter. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Dropped from 40-man roster
The Rangers designated Ingram for assignment Wednesday.

Advice: Ingram was cast off the 40-man roster after the Rangers needed to open up a spot for outfielder/designated hitter Robbie Grossman, whom the team acquired from the White Sox on Wednesday. After being claimed off waivers from the Mets on April 24, Ingram didn't make any appearances for Texas, as he had been pitching in relief at Triple-A Round Rock. He'll remain in the organization and stick around with Round Rock if he clears waivers. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

  • Tosses two innings of relief
Turnbull threw two innings of relief Tuesday against the Blue Jays, walking one but allowing no hits or runs.

Advice: Turnbull was expected to pitch in some sort of piggyback setup with Cristopher Sanchez, but Tuesday's game didn't entirely fit that pattern. Sanchez threw seven innings of one-run ball before turning it over to Turnbull in the eighth with the Phillies up 8-1. Turnbull's outing therefore wound up looking much more like traditional low-leverage relief work than a proper piggybacking arrangement. It's not yet clear whether Turnbull will be used as a typical reliever for the foreseeable future or if the Phillies will keep him lined up with Sanchez's starts. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago
