• Back in majors
The Padres recalled Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

Advice: The right-hander was optioned to El Paso on April 26 after making a couple starts for San Diego, and he'll rejoin the big club Sunday since Joe Musgrove (elbow) landed on the injured list. Vasquez allowed five earned runs with a 5:3 K:BB over 7.2 frames in his two outings and could step into the rotation for Musgrove, who had been scheduled to pitch Tuesday against the Cubs. • Out with elbow inflammation
The Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: The right-hander was expected to start Tuesday against the Cubs but will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. It's unclear when the injury surfaced for Musgrove, who struck out nine and allowed two runs over six innings his last time out versus the Cubs. Randy Vasquez was recalled in a corresponding move and could step into the rotation for San Diego. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

  • Throws 39 pitches in rehab start
Baz (elbow/oblique) gave up three earned runs on three hits and one walk in three innings Saturday during his first rehab start for Triple-A Durham. He failed to record a strikeout and built up to 39 pitches.

Advice: He gave up a two-run home run on a changeup to Forrest Wall, which accounted for the brunt of the damage. Baz averaged 95 mph on his fastball, per Thomas Nestco of TJ Stats, and he will probably need to make several more rehab starts before rejoining the big-league rotation. • X-rays return negative
Pepiot had X-rays come back negative and was diagnosed with a bruised lower left leg after exiting Sunday's start against the Mets, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sunreports.

Advice: The 26-year-old appears to have avoided a serious injury after being struck in the leg by a 107-mph comebacker, which prompted his exit during the third inning Sunday. Pepiot could remain on turn to pitch against the Yankees next weekend if he bounces back well from the injury over the next few days. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

  • Ryan Pepiot day-to-day with left leg contusion
Ryan Pepiot is day-to-day after leaving Sunday’s start against the Mets with a left leg contusion.

Advice: Pepiot has already undergone imaging, and x-rays came back negative for the right-hander. He was struck in the leg by a pitch that was 107 mph, and while he attempted to stay in the game, Rays manager Kevin Cash wasn’t going to take any risks. There’s a good chance Pepiot could make his next scheduled start, but fantasy managers will want to keep a close eye. Rotoworld Today, 12:04 pm

  • Nick Pivetta (elbow) expected to start Wednesday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters that Nick Pivetta (elbow) is expected to come off the injured list to start Wednesday against Atlanta.

Advice: That’s a tough return, but it’s also welcome news for fantasy managers who are waiting for Pivetta to come off the shelf. The right-hander was able to throw 62 pitches in his rehab start Thursday for Triple-A Worcester, so he should be stretched out for five-plus innings in that outing. Rotoworld Today, 12:00 pm

  • Departs Sunday's start
Pepiot was removed from Sunday's game against the Mets after being struck in the left leg by a comebacker, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sunreports.

Advice: The right-hander was hit by a line drive that came off the bat at 107 mph, which ended his day during the third inning. Pepiot finished with three runs allowed on three hits and a walk over two innings. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, leaving the 26-year-old's availability for his next turn through the rotation up in the air. Rotowire.com Today, 11:51 am

  • Looks set to return Wednesday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Pivetta (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday's game in Atlanta, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Cora stopped short of confirming Pivetta for Wednesday, as the right-hander presumably needs to check out fine following a bullpen session Sunday or Monday before the Red Sox formally clear him to rejoin the rotation. Pivetta, who has been on the shelf since April 9 with a right elbow flexor strain, made a rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Thursday and gave up four earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five across three innings. Despite the less-than-stellar results, the Red Sox were apparently encouraged by how Pivetta felt physically in the outing and are eager to bring him back into the big-league rotation this week. • May drop appeal after start
Peralta implied that he could drop his appeal of a five-game suspension following his start Sunday against the Cubs, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Peralta was handed the ban Wednesday after he was deemed to have intentionally thrown at Rays outfielder Jose Siri in Tuesday's 8-2 win. The right-hander was ejected from the game immediately after hitting Siri, who then exchanged punches with Brewers reliever Abner Uribe following his next plate appearance in the eighth inning, inciting a benches-clearing brawl. Peralta seemingly appealed the suspension to give the Brewers more time to prepare for his absence, as it doesn't sound as though he's expecting a reduction in his five-game ban following the appeal process. With that in mind, fantasy managers should prepare for Peralta to have his next turn through the rotation skipped, with Milwaukee preparing to turn to a spot starter Friday in St. Louis. Robert Gasser is scheduled to pitch Sunday for Triple-A Nashville and could be called up to fill the void for Peralta on Friday, though manager Pat Murphy also floated the possibility of that game being treated as a bullpen day, per Hogg.
