    • Mashes grand slam
Melendez went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Saturday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Melendez put the Royals on top with a two-out grand slam in the top of the sixth, drawing 12 pitches in the at-bat before jumping on a hanging cutter from Blake Treinen. The 25-year-old also recorded an infield single earlier in the contest, giving him his first multi-hit effort since May 10 against the Angels. Melendez is batting just .152 in June with and Saturday actually marked the first time this month in which he's strung together hits in back-to-back contests. On a positive note, he now has three homers in his last eight games to go along with 10 RBI and four runs scored. Rotowire.com Today, 7:31 am

    • MJ Melendez hits grand slam in win over Dodgers
MJ Melendez hit a grand slam to help the Royals to a 7-2 win over the Dodgers on Saturday.

Advice: With the bases full, Melendez took Blake Treinen deep to give the Royals a 5-2 lead. The 25-year-old outfielder has been a significant disappointment in 2024, but he’s at least starting to show some pop with three homers in the month of June; all of them coming in the last eight games. • Absent from lineup again
Melendez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Yankees.

Advice: For the third time in the last four contests, the Royals' lineup card hasn't included Melendez, who is amidst a 7-for-75 freefall at the dish dating back to May 11. Dairon Blanco will cover left field Thursday while Melendez takes a seat. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:59 am

    • Sitting against righty amid slump
Melendez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: The Royals have already scaled back the lefty-hitting Melendez's playing time against southpaws, but he'll take a seat against right-hander Cody Poteet on Wednesday, opening up a start in left field for Garrett Hampson. Since producing a season-high three hits May 10 against the Angels, Melendez has gone 7-for-75 (.093 average) over the past month of action. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:05 pm

    • Taking seat against lefty
Melendez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: After starting in each of the Royals' last four games while the opposition brought right-handed starters to the hill for every contest, the lefty-hitting Melendez will exit the lineup while southpaw Carlos Rodon takes the hill for the Yankees. Melendez has logged just 33 plate appearances versus lefties this season and is slashing .156/.182/.156 in those matchups. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:28 pm

    • Homers in extra-inning loss
Melendez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning loss versus the Mariners.

Advice: Melendez has just three hits over his last 10 games, but all of them have been homers. His blast Sunday tied the game at 3-3 in the ninth inning. Melendez is up to seven homers this season, but he's taken a step back overall with a .165/.228/.346 slash line through 197 plate appearances on the year. He's added 19 RBI, 17 runs scored and two stolen bases, and he's still seeing a majority of the playing time in left field despite his poor hitting. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:20 pm

    • MJ Melendez hits game-tying homer in ninth
MJ Melendez hit a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth Sunday against the Royals.

Advice: Melendez also had a two-run homer as part of a four-RBI game Friday. He’d seem to be in desperate need of the surge, though really, we’d argue that the Royals should have sent him down weeks ago. That’s not to say that he can’t turn things around in the majors — maybe he’s starting to do so — but he’s batting .165 and hasn’t had a multi-hit game since May 10. Rotoworld Sunday, 5:22 pm

    • Receiving first day off
Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: The 26-year-old was scheduled to sit last weekend but convinced his way back into the lineup, so it's possible the Brewers make another late lineup change. For now, Contreras is set to be on the bench for the first time this season after making 64 straight starts to begin 2024. He's struggled early in June with a .492 OPS through seven contests and is homerless in his past 60 at-bats, so it's a good time for some extra rest. Gary Sanchez will work behind the plate and bat fifth Sunday. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:39 am
    • William Contreras out Sunday against Tigers
William Contreras is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Tigers.

Advice: Contreras was supposed to get his first day off of the season last Sunday, but he and Willy Adames were both inserted into the lineup later. Assuming the lineup doesn’t change, Contreras will finally get that day of rest. Gary Sanchez is the starting catcher and hitting fifth. Rotoworld Sunday, 7:39 am
