Contreras went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Contreras scored runs in the first and fifth innings, both coming via Nolan Arenado doubles. Since his last multi-hit game April 17, Contreras had been stuck in a 9-for-43 (.209) slump over 12 games. Despite the streakiness, he still owns a strong .281/.395/.531 slash line through 114 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:52 pm

  • Willson Contreras reaches four times vs. White Sox
Willson Contreras went 3-for-3 and scored two runs with a stolen base against the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Contreras also drew a walk. The 31-year-old is off to a much better start than the one he had in his first year with the Cardinals, as the four-reach game sees his line improve to .281/.395/.631 over 96 at-bats. Rotoworld Friday, 7:58 pm

  • Pirates option slumping Henry Davis to Triple-A
Pirates optioned C/OF Henry Davis to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: The 24-year-old former top overall pick opened the season as the Pirates’ starting catcher, but stumbled to a miserable .162/.280/.206 slash line with zero homers, four RBI, zero stolen bases and a 29/11 K/BB ratio over 83 plate appearances. Getting back into a rhythm at Triple-A and beating up on minor league pitching should help to restore his confidence before the Pirates bring him back up. Yasmani Grandal was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Friday. Rotoworld Friday, 2:32 pm

  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Davis to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Davis entered the season as the Pirates' clear No. 1 catcher, but he slashed just .162/.280/.206 with a 34.9 percent strikeout rate and recently had fallen into a timeshare with Joey Bart. The Pirates will presumably keep Davis at catcher at Indianapolis, although it's possible he could be worked back into the mix in right field. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:36 pm

  • Provides lone run in loss
Contreras went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Contreras also struck out three times Wednesday for the third consecutive game. He'll likely be happy to put the Tigers in the rear-view mirror after going 1-for-13 with nine strikeouts during the three-game series in Detroit. That poor stretch has dropped Contreras to a .258/.373/.505 slash line on the year, and he's added five homers, 10 RBI, 14 runs scored, eight doubles and a stolen base through 110 plate appearances. Contreras has caught four of the Cardinals' last six games, so it appears he's managing his lingering soreness from a left hand injury fairly well. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:55 am

  • Henry Davis exits for pinch-hitter versus Giants
Henry Davis struck out twice before exiting for a pinch-hitter Sunday against the Giants.

Advice: The Pirates might have batted for him anyway, but Davis did get hit on the right hand while catching today and was definitely feeling it afterwards. Davis has really struggled this season, hitting .169/.282/.215 in 79 plate appearances, and odds are that he’s going to be sent to Triple-A once Yasmani Grandal comes off the IL. • Pops homer Friday
Contreras went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 4-2 win over the Mets.

Advice: The Cardinals mustered just five hits, but Contreras and Alec Burleson provided a pair of homers to make it work. Contreras continues to play through a lingering hand injury, and while it's limited his ability to catch, he's been fine at the plate. Since the injury occurred April 3, he's gone 17-for-52 (.327) with two homers, six doubles and five RBI. For the season, he's slashing .296/.425/.563 with four homers, nine RBI, 12 runs scored, seven doubles and a stolen base over 21 contests. Contreras will continue to split time between catcher and designated hitter. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:53 am
