• Blows save, takes first loss Friday
Foley (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits without recording an out to blow the save and take the loss Friday against the Yankees.

Advice: Foley came on in the ninth inning to protect a 1-0 Detroit lead, but the righty struggled and blew his first save of the season in 10 chances. He's still sitting with a solid 2.63 ERA overall and should remain the team's closer for now, though it's a fluid situation with Alex Lange, Shelby Miller and Andrew Chafin all potentially waiting in the wings if Foley stumbles again. Lange led the Tigers with 26 saves last year and has been sharp with a 0.75 ERA in 2024, so he may be the next man up in this bullpen. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:23 am
  • Jason Foley implodes in ninth inning on Friday
Jason Foley suffered a brutal blown save against the Yankees on Friday night, surrendering hits to all four batters that he faced.

Advice: Yikes. In what was a terrific pitcher’s duel that had the Tigers leading 1-0 heading to the ninth inning, Foley immediately got off on the wrong foot by allowing a leadoff single to Aaron Judge. Alex Verdugo then dropped down a bunt single with third baseman Zach McKinstry playing back, setting the stage for Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton then ripped an RBI double into right field on the second pitch he saw, and Anthony Rizzo followed with a run-scoring single to walk it off. Foley is probably still fine in the ninth inning, as he has converted nine of his first 10 save chances, though his 1.54 WHIP leads much to be desired. Rotoworld Friday, 7:13 pm
  • Pete Fairbanks ready to start rehab on Tuesday
Pete Fairbanks (nerve issue) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

Advice: The 30-year-old hurler has been out since April 22 due to a nerve-related condition that caused him difficulty in gripping the baseball. He should only need an outing or two there before he’s ready to rejoin the Rays’ bullpen. Rotoworld Friday, 2:27 pm

  • Rehab assignment starting soon
Fairbanks (arm) is set to begin a rehab stint at Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported Friday.

Advice: Fairbanks has been dealing with a nerve issue in his throwing arm and after receiving positive results on testing done in late April, he's set to see game action. It's unclear how long his stint in Durham will be, but once Fairbanks is back with the Rays, expect him to reclaim closing duties from Jason Adam and Garrett Cleavinger. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:14 pm

  • Records first win
Leiter (1-1) retired the only two batters he faced out of the bullpen to earn the win in Monday's 3-1 victory over the Mets.

Advice: Starter Jameson Taillon was excellent over 7.1 innings, but the Cubs turned to Leiter to get the last two outs of the eighth. The veteran righty delivered, then scooped up his first win of the year when Christopher Morel hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth. Leiter has been excellent all year, posting a 0.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts across 13 innings. He should continue to work in a setup role ahead of new closer Hector Neris, though he could be next up for saves if Neris falters. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:30 pm

  • Earns league-leading ninth save
Foley allowed one hit and one walk over one scoreless frame to earn the save Sunday against the Royals. He struck out two.

Advice: Foley kept things interesting by allowing the first two batters he faced to reach but induced a groundout followed by two strikeouts to join four other relievers with his league-leading ninth save in as many opportunities. The Tigers' closer lowered his ERA to 1.38 with a 1.23 WHIP and 13 strikeouts across 13 innings. Rotowire.com Sunday, 2:32 pm
  • Jason Foley escapes with save on Sunday
Jason Foley pitched around two baserunners to earn a save in the Tigers’ 4-1 win over the Royals on Sunday.

Advice: Foley was called on to protect the three-run lead and immediately walked a batter and allowed a single. However, he was able to pitch himself out of trouble with a ground out and back-to-back strikeouts. The right-hander now has a 1.38 ERA and nine saves on the season. Rotoworld Sunday, 1:52 pm
  • Holds on for eighth save
Foley allowed two runs on three hits and no walks during the ninth inning to earn the save in Saturday's 6-5 win against the Royals.

Advice: The right-hander was staked to a three-run lead and needed all of it as he surrendered his first earned runs of the campaign Saturday. Foley remains perfect in eight save chances this season and has a 1.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 11:6 K:BB across 12 innings. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:09 am
  • Jason Foley escapes ninth inning with eighth save
Jason Foley walked the tightrope in the ninth inning against the Royals on Saturday, escaping with a one-run lead intact to earn his eighth save of the season.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander came on with a three-run advantage, but the Royals nudged closer as they put three hits together to score a pair of runs and put the tying run on base. He rallied back though to get Vinnie Pasquantino on a fly ball to center to end the ballgame. On the season, Foley now holds a 1.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and an 11/6 K/BB ratio across 12 innings on the season to go along with eight saves and two victories. Rotoworld Saturday, 6:14 pm
