• Alexis Díaz blows save, gets loss vs. Diamondbacks
Alexis Díaz blew a save while picking up a loss Monday by allowing two runs and getting just one out Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Díaz experience in 2024 has been interesting, to say the least, and probably is too kind of a description. The right-hander threw 9-of-21 pitches for strikes while issuing a pair of walks, and he gave up a two-run single to blow his second save and pick up his second loss. It seems likely that Díaz will remain the closer, but this does not look like the strong option that he was in 2023. Not yet, anyway. Rotoworld Monday, 10:06 pm
  • Raisel Iglesias gives up solo homer vs. Mets
Raisel Iglesias allowed a solo homer while picking up a strikeout in a relief appearance Saturday against the Mets.

Advice: Atlanta didn’t allow a hit over the first 8 2/3 innings, but Iglesias gave up the no-no — and the shutout — by allowing a homer to J.D. Martinez. Iglesias also gave up another hit and a walk, but he was able to escape the jam; although the escape comes without a save since he entered the game with a 4-0 lead. Rotoworld May 11, 3:58 pm

  • Just misses quality start Friday
Irvin (4-1) picked up the win Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings in a 4-2 victory over the Diamondbacks. He struck out six.

Advice: The southpaw was sharp and had given up only a solo shot to Ketel Marte heading into the sixth inning, but Irvin got the hook after 95 pitches (62 strikes) with runners on first and second and two outs. Albert Suarez then promptly gave up a single to let one of the inherited runners score, but the O's bullpen took care of business the rest of the way. Irvin generated 30 called or swinging strikes as he won his fourth straight start, and after a bumpy beginning to the season he's posted a 1.19 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 21:3 K:BB in 30.1 innings over his last five outings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com May 11, 6:18 am

  • Closes out Friday's game
Diaz walked one and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Giants.

Advice: Diaz had given up five runs over 1.1 innings across his last two outings, which came in non-save situations. This was his first save since April 27, and he's now 7-for-8 in save chances this season. A couple of implosions have wreaked havoc on Diaz's ratios -- he's at a 6.08 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB through 13.1 innings, and he's been scored upon in four of his 14 appearances. His walk rate is high, but it hasn't cost him the Reds' closer job yet. Rotowire.com May 10, 10:01 pm
  • Díaz picks up seventh save against Giants
Alexis Díaz hurled a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Díaz did allow a walk, but he didn’t give up a hit while striking out two, and lowered his ERA to 6.08 in the process. That ERA is less-than-ideal, but keep in mind that it’s mostly from some early scuffles. Díaz should be a fine closing option for the remainder of 2024. Rotoworld May 10, 9:49 pm
  • Strikes out season-high 11
King allowed two hits and three walks while striking out a season-high 11 over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.

Advice: King put four runners on base but also racked up eight strikeouts over his first three innings. He ended up missing out on the win after Yuki Matsui allowed the game-tying run in the eighth inning. King was unsteady late in April, but he's opened May with 13 scoreless innings. The right-hander has a 3.67 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 54:24 K:BB through 49 innings over nine appearances (eight starts) this season. King is penciled in for a more favorable home matchup versus the Rockies his next time out. Rotowire.com May 10, 9:34 pm

  • Michael King allows two hits, whiffs 11 vs. LAD
Michael King struck out 11 over seven scoreless innings against the Dodgers on Friday.

Advice: Sensational. King was excellent against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, but this was a different level for the 28-year-old. He did walk three, but he threw 74-of-106 pitches for strikes and was able to get the punchout if there was even a sniff of trouble. The right-hander now has a 3.67 ERA and 54/24 K/BB, and he’s shown why the Padres were adamant about acquiring his services in the Juan Soto trade. Sadly, King doesn’t get a win because his bullpen blew a 1-0 lead after he left. He should keep the good run going against the Rockies at home next week. Rotoworld May 10, 8:58 pm

  • Cole Irvin downs Diamondbacks, improves to 4-1
Cole Irvin threw 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs Friday in the Orioles’ 4-2 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Irvin got the win and moved to 4-1 with a 2.90 ERA. He wasn’t supposed to still be in the Orioles rotation with Kyle Bradish and John Means back, but the Grayson Rodriguez and Tyler Wells injuries changed things, and Irvin is making a case to stick after Rodriguez returns. The Orioles might go to a six-man rotation for a time in order to lighten the load. Rotoworld May 10, 8:32 pm

  • Notches 10th save
Iglesias allowed a run on a hit and a walk in the ninth inning Friday to earn a save against the Mets.

Advice: Iglesias coughed up an RBI single to Pete Alonso with two outs in the ninth but was able to close out the 4-2 victory. The right-hander has converted 10 of his 12 save chances this year while posting a 10:4 K:BB through 15.1 innings. Friday was the first time he'd allowed an earned run since April 24, and he owns a strong 2.25 ERA. Rotowire.com May 10, 8:30 pm
