• Nick Castellanos goes 0-for-4 in loss to Angels
Nick Castellanos went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Angels on Monday.

Advice: While Castellanos’s track record certainly suggests that he will hit, this has been awfully ugly; he’s batting just .173/.242/.218 through 120 plate appearances. The only players with worse OPSs currently qualified for the batting title are rookie second basemen (Colt Keith and Enmanuel Valdez). Castellanos has always been worse than most in recognizing which pitches to swing at, but his natural talent at putting bat to ball has made up for it. That could be changing at age 32, and the Phillies might have to consider an upgrade in right field at some point. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:21 pm
  • Expected back Tuesday
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Monday that he expects Marte (personal) to be activated from the bereavement list Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Advice: Marte missed the final two games of the Mets' weekend series against the Cardinals and remains unavailable Monday versus the Cubs, but his return to the team looks to be imminent. Tyrone Taylor will draw a third straight start in the outfield Monday but will move back to a bench role once Marte is activated. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:26 pm

  • Goes on paternity leave
The Yankees placed Verdugo (personal) on the paternity list Monday.

Advice: While he leaves the team to celebrate the birth of his child, Verdugo won't be available for Monday's series opener in Baltimore, and he'll most likely remain away for games Tuesday and Wednesday before he would need to be activated ahead of Thursday's series finale versus the Orioles. The Yankees are scheduled to face right-handed starting pitchers for each of their next three games, so left-handed-hitting outfielders Trent Grisham and Taylor Trammell could represent logical replacements in the lineup for Verdugo. • Yankees place Alex Verdugo on paternity list
Yankees placed OF Alex Verdugo on the paternity list.

Advice: Carlos Narváez has been called up and will take his spot on the active roster for now. Verdugo can be away from the club for 24-72 hours while on the paternity list. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:40 am

  • Drives in four runs
Verdugo went 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and two runs in Saturday's 15-3 win against the Brewers.

Advice: The Yankees offense came alive Saturday, and Verdugo led the way with a three-run homer in the opening inning. It was the outfielder's second straight game with a homer and his fourth long ball of the campaign. Verdugo started slow over the first couple weeks of the season with a .454 OPS through 10 games, but over the past three weeks he has a .350/.446/.600 slash line with six doubles, three homers and an 11:7 BB:K in 74 plate appearances. • Alex Verdugo drives in four in blowout victory
Alex Verdugo went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBI in a blowout win over the Brewers on Saturday.

Advice: Verdugo got the Yankees off to a great start in the first inning with a three-run blast off Joe Ross to make the score 3-0. The 27-year-old has shown some early pop in 2024 with four homers and .463 slugging percentage through the first 28 contests. It’s very possible that the former top prospect puts together a breakout season in 2024, even if it’s hard to bet on it. Rotoworld Saturday, 10:13 pm

  • Mets place Starling Marte on bereavement list
Mets placed OF Starling Marte on the bereavement list.

Advice: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Marte is only expected to miss three games on bereavement leave. The 35-year-old veteran outfielder is in the midst of a pretty remarkable renaissance campaign, batting .288 with four homers and six steals in 25 games. Rotoworld Saturday, 10:38 am

  • Placed on bereavement list
Marte was placed on the bereavement list Saturday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Manager Carlos Mendoza said he expects Marte to be away from the team for three days as he tends to more important matters. Mark Vientos will come up from Triple-A Syracuse to take Marte's spot on the active roster. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:31 am

  • Day off Saturday
Marte isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's contest versus St. Louis, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Advice: Marte went 1-for-4 during Friday's series opener, and he'll now get a rare day off Saturday versus Sonny Gray and the Cards. DJ Stewart will get the nod in right field and bat fifth. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:36 am
