    • Marcus Semien stays hot in Rangers’ loss to A’s
Marcus Semien went 3-for-5 with a solo homer in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Athletics.

Advice: Semien went deep for the second consecutive contest against his former team, pulverizing a 412-foot solo shot off Athletics starter JP Sears in the third inning as part of a three-hit performance. Rotoworld Today, 3:05 pm

    • Takes seat Wednesday
Lowe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: The White Sox are bringing a right-hander (Chris Flexen) to the mound, but he's been far more effective against lefties (.314 wOBA) than righties (.372 wOBA) for his career, which likely explains why the lefty-hitting Lowe is on the bench. After being activated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Lowe has gone 3-for-9 with a double through his first two games of the season. Rotowire.com Today, 2:21 pm

    • Hits in batting cage
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Wednesday that Murphy (oblique) has progressed to hitting in the batting cage, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Murphy's recovery from a Grade 1 left oblique strain has inched along at a snail's pace, but he's finally making noteworthy progress. Given that he's already missed nearly six weeks of action, he will no doubt require a handful of minor-league rehab games before returning from the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.com Today, 1:44 pm

    • Alex Lange takes loss in 10th to Guardians
After the Tigers failed to score in the top of the inning, Alex Lange took a loss in the 10th against the Guardians on Wednesday.

Advice: The Tigers really mixed things up relief-wise in this one, turning to Jason Foley for two outs in the seventh and Joey Wentz for four outs through the eighth. Wentz allowed an unearned run, narrowing Detroit’s lead to one, and Andrew Chafin, given a rare chance to close, made that go away by giving up a homer to David Fry. Lange went on to get the final out of the ninth. In the 10th, he got an out on a sac bunt and then gave up the winning single. While Foley remains the favorite for saves in Detroit, it looks like this is going to be a frustrating situation going forward. Rotoworld Today, 1:37 pm

    • Sean Murphy (oblique) starts hitting in cage
Braves’ manager Brian Snitker told reporters on Wednesday that Sean Murphy (oblique) has progressed to hitting in the batting cages.

Advice: The 29-year-old backstop continues his slow and methodical progress in his return from a Grade 1 oblique strain. It sounds like a minor league rehab stint could be on the horizon soon, though it remains unclear how many games he’ll need there to get his timing back before he’s ready to rejoin the Braves. Travis d’Arnaud will continue holding down the fort for the time being. Rotoworld Today, 1:35 pm

    • Throws off mound Wednesday
Rodriguez (shoulder) threw 15 pitches off the mound Wednesday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: It's the first time Rodriguez has thrown off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list a week ago with right shoulder inflammation. The hope is that the right-hander will be ready to go when his 15 days are up, but he still has some hurdles to clear in order to make that a reality. Rotowire.com Today, 1:26 pm
    • On base thrice in Tuesday's win
Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a single, two walks, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.

Advice: Rodriguez deployed the small-ball strategy to great effectiveness Tuesday, pushing his OBP for the season back over the .300 mark (.309) in the process. The steal was Rodriguez's eighth of the season in 10 attempts; however, he's still sitting on just a single home run and five extra-base hits overall in 152 plate appearances, after averaging one XBH every 10.1 trips to the batter's box a season ago. Both Rodriguez's barrel (6.4 percent) and hard-hit (30.9 percent) rates have taken notable dips from their respective 11.9 percent and 38.87 percent figures in 2023, partly explaining the power drought. • Retreats to bench Wednesday
Hoskins is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Hoskins will get the afternoon off in the series finale in Kansas City after he had started in each of the Brewers' previous eight games. Gary Sanchez will spell Hoskins at first base. Rotowire.com Today, 9:56 am

    • Stingy in Tuesday's win
Gil (3-1) picked up the win in Tuesday's 10-3 rout of the Astros, allowing one run on one hit and four walks over six innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Kyle Tucker mashed a solo shot off Gil in the first inning, but the right-hander was unhittable after that despite some shaky control. He tossed 57 of 97 pitches for strikes before leaving the mound with his second straight quality start, the only two times in seven outings he's even lasted six innings. Gil will take a 2.92 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 45:24 K:BB through 37 inning into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com Today, 8:11 am
