      Alexis Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 2-0 win over the Padres on Tuesday.

      Advice: Díaz walked one and struck out one and then induced a game-ending double play. The save was his eighth of the season in what has been a tough year for Diaz. The 27-year-old has a 6.62 ERA and has blown two saves. The good news is that he’s not allowing lots of hard contact, but the bad news is that his command has wavered, leading to an increased walk rate and a huge reduction in his swinging strike rate.       Diaz (1-3) took the loss in 10 innings Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing an unearned run on one hit and a walk over an inning of work. He also struck out a batter.

      Advice: Diaz struck out Jason Heyward in the ninth to send the game into an extra frame. He was an out away from getting through the 10th, but Shohei Ohtani laced a base hit to right that scored Heyward to end the game. Diaz has now given up five total runs on four hits over his last 2.1 innings, which has also come with two losses and a blown save. He's given up nine runs in 4.2 innings in May. Despite the struggles, manager David Bell has not made any public comments about a possible closer change, suggesting Diaz's job is save for now.       Advice: Garrett took the ball in the eighth with the Mets leading 4-3 and, after striking out the side and getting four runs of support, stayed out to complete the ninth. It's unclear if Garrett would still have gotten the save chance if New York didn't extend its lead, but he's still a candidate for saves moving forward with Edwin Diaz moving out of the closer role temporarily to get back on track.       David Bednar slammed the door on the Cubs in the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon, preserving a one-run lead to earn his 10th save of the season.

      Advice: It hasn’t always been easy for Bednar this season, but he has been much better of late and made things look easy on Sunday. He got Christopher Morel on a pop out to shortstop and Ian Happ on a pop out to third base to start the inning before issuing a two-out walk to Michael Busch.       Advice: Garrett has been lights out this season for the Mets and one of their most important players, let alone relievers. His strikeout rate is still hovering around an otherworldly 40% and Edwin Díaz’s disastrous week means Garrett is likely in line for some more save opportunities moving forward.
