    • Tosses another gem
Lopez (4-2) earned the win Thursday, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk over six innings against the Orioles. He struck out eight.

Advice: Lopez allowed only three baserunners on the day, never more than one in an inning, and matched a season-high with eight strikeouts. The right-hander now has eight quality starts while never allowing more than three runs in an outing and allowing two runs or less in 11 of his 12 starts. Lopez will carry a league-leading 1.69 ERA into his next turn through the rotation, which is currently scheduled to take place early next week versus Detroit. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:13 pm

    • Nearly ready to take swings
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Nootbaar (oblique) continues to take part in "rotational work" and could resume swinging a bat this weekend, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Cardinals will presumably ease Nootbaar into swinging by having him hit off a tee or hit soft-toss throws before he eventually gains clearance to hit against higher-velocity pitching. In addition to being able to hit without discomfort, Nootbaar, who has been on the injured list since May 31 with a left oblique strain, will also need to prove that the injury doesn't compromise him when he runs the bases or plays the outfield. He still appears to be at least a couple weeks away from being a realistic option to rejoin the Cardinals, and Nootbaar will presumably need to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated. • Homers twice in win
Candelario went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in a 4-2 win over the Guardians on Wednesday.

Advice: Candelario hit a solo home run off Tanner Bibee in the first inning and followed it up with a three-run homer off Bibee to give the Reds a 4-2 lead in the sixth. He then added a single in the eighth. Candelario has been mashing in June, hitting .340 with five homers and 11 RBI through 11 contests. While Candelario's .243 season average still isn't great, he now has 11 home runs and 31 RBI in 248 plate appearances and is hitting in the heart of a hot Reds lineup. • Jeimer Candelario powers Reds past Guardians
Jeimer Candelario blasted a pair of homers and drove in four runs on Wednesday night, accounting for all of the Reds’ offense in a 4-2 victory over the Guardians.

Advice: The 30-year-old infielder opened the scoring in the contest with a 404-foot (104.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Tanner Bibee. He then put the Reds ahead to stay with a 343-foot (96.9 mph EV) three-run blast that chased Bibee from the game in the sixth inning. Candelario also singled in the ballgame, finishing the night 3-for-4. On the season, he’s now slashing .243/.306/.476 with 11 homers and 31 RBI. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:08 pm

    • Brewers hopeful that Joey Ortiz can return Friday
Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy said after Wednesday’s game that he’s hopeful Joey Ortiz (hamstring) will be able to return to action on Friday.

Advice: The dynamic 25-year-old infielder was held out of action on Tuesday and Wednesday due to soreness in his right hamstring. Murphy noted that Ortiz “tested out really well” on Wednesday though and they’re hopeful that after Thursday’s off-day he’ll be ready to roll. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:46 pm

    • Receives injection for back
Munoz had an MRI and bone scan on his back come back clean, but he received an injection Tuesday to address the lingering soreness, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: The right-hander last pitched Sunday in Kansas City and has made just two appearances in June while battling through the back issue. Munoz hasn't officially been declared unavailable, but the Mariners may try to stay away from him for another day or two as he recovers. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:10 pm
    • Getting day off amid slump
Rooker is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Rooker will cede designated hitter duties to JJ Bleday and get a breather for the series finale after he had started in each of the Athletics' last 14 games. During that stretch, Rooker slashed just .196/.281/.392 with a 40.4 percent strikeout rate, so the day off could prove beneficial while he's in the midst of a slump at the dish. • Brent Rooker out of the lineup amidst slump
Brent Rooker is not in the Athletics’ lineup on Wednesday against the Padres.

Advice: Rooker is a notoriously streaky hitter, and things have not been going well for him over the last three weeks. The slugger is hitting .212/.316/.394 over his last 18 games with two home runs, eight RBI, and a 39.5 percent strikeout rate. We’ve seen Rooker go through these prolonged slumps in the past due to his low contact rate, so it might be safe to treat him as a streamer in shallower formats and see if you can roster a hitter trending in the right direction. Daz Cameron will start in center field and take Rooker’s place in the lineup on Wednesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:25 pm

    • Joey Ortiz day-to-day with hamstring injury
Joey Ortiz is not in the Brewers’ lineup on Tuesday as he is undergoing testing on his hamstring.

Advice: Ortiz is being examined today after missing yesterday’s game with a sore right hamstring. Since the Brewers have an off day tomorrow, Ortiz being on the bench on Wednesday allows him to have more rest. We’ll likely know more about his status after the game today. Oliver Dunn is starting at third base for Ortiz on Wednesday and batting eighth. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:18 am
