• Set to be sent down
The Cubs are expected to option Mervis to Triple-A Iowa before Saturday's contest against the Brewers, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Mervis was called up to the majors on April 23 after a strong start in Triple-A, slashing .288/.402/.606 with six doubles, five home runs and 13 RBI over 82 plate appearances with Iowa. That hasn't translated to the big club, as he's gone 3-for-26 with three RBI and eight strikeouts over nine games. Manager Craig Counsell noted that Mervis needs to go "back to the drawing board" in Triple-A, per Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune. Mervis' move to Triple-A is to make room for the Cubs to call up Miles Mastrobuoni. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • Expected to join big club
The Cubs are expected to call up Mastrobuoni from Triple-A Iowa before Saturday's game against the Brewers, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Mastrobuoni made the Cubs' Opening Day roster and was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on April 18 after Patrick Wisdom returned from the 10-day IL due to a back injury. Mastrobuoni has appeared in 10 games for Iowa, slashing .231/.318/.436 with 10 runs, five doubles, one home run and four RBI over 44 plate appearances. Matt Mervis is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room for Mastrobuoni. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Dylan Carlson (shoulder) nearing return to STL
Dylan Carlson (shoulder) has returned from his rehab assignment and is with the Cardinals on Saturday.

Advice: Keep in mind that with the Cardinals is not the same thing as being activated off the injured list. That being said, a return is obviously close for the 25-year-old outfielder. Once active, Carlson should be an option for the outfield, but not necessarily one fantasy managers should be running to the waiver wire to add. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

  • Lands on injured list
The White Sox placed Mendick on the 10-day injured list Saturday with lower-back tightness, retroactive to Thursday.

Advice: Mendick's back issues caused him to be scratched from the lineup prior to Friday's game, and it will now officially cost him more than a week as he heads to the IL. Bryan Ramos was recalled from Double-A Birmingham in a corresponding move and should receive the majority of reps at third base while Mendick is sidelined. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

  • Andrew Vaughn not starting Saturday vs. STL
Andrew Vaughn is not in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Vaughn, 26, has swung the bat much better as of late with his average rising to .196 from the .157 mark he carried on April 24. He’ll get a day off with Gavin Sheets handling first base and Robbie Grossman starting in right field. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago

  • Promoted to majors
The White Sox recalled Ramos from Double-A Birmingham on Saturday.

Advice: Ramos has gotten off to a rough start this season at Double-A, slashing .182/.265/.307 with 11 RBI across 98 plate appearances. However, with Danny Mendick (back) headed to the injured list and the White Sox desperate for any sort of boost to their offense, the 22-year-old Ramos will skip Triple-A and get his first taste of the big leagues. He is likely to serve as Chicago's primary third baseman while Mendick is on the IL. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago

  • White Sox place Danny Mendick on IL with back tightness
White Sox placed INF Danny Mendick on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 2, with lower back tightness.

Advice: Mendick will be out for at least a week while recovering. The White Sox have recalled INF Bryan Ramos from Triple-A Charlotte to take Mendick’s place on the active roster. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago

  • Participating in drills
Suzuki (oblique) is set to do hitting and defensive drills Saturday with Cody Bellinger, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Suzuki suffered a right oblique strain April 14, and he was placed on the 10-day IL one day later. He was limited to light activity, but has since progressed to on-field batting practice. After his batting session Wednesday, Suzuki noted that he felt he was 80 percent recovered from his oblique strain and could begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues to progress, per Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune. • Spencer Torkelson moves down to seventh spot
Spencer Torkelson is hitting seventh and playing first base against the Yankees on Saturday.

Advice: Torkelson continues to move down in the lineup, and it’s easy to justify with a slash of .212/.282/.288 over 132 plate appearances. The first-overall pick in 2020 was excellent in the second-half of the 2023 campaign, but that hasn’t carried over whatsoever in 2024. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues should be searching for a potential replacement if they haven’t cut bait already. Rotoworld 47 minutes ago
