    • Steele allows five runs in no-decision
      Justin Steele allowed five runs (one earned) in five innings and got a no-decision in the Cubs’ 7-5 victory over the Reds on Saturday.



      Advice: Steele gave up seven hits, walked four and struck out five. He seemed to be turning a corner with seven shutout innings in his last start, but this was a setback for Steele. Even though most of the runs were unearned, he’s now allowed at least five runs in four of his last five starts. Steele has completed six innings in only two of his seven starts this year. His ERA was mostly spared in this one and now sits at 4.10 for the season, but when you add it all up this isn’t a recipe for winning games right now. The 28-year-old left-hander will look to improve against the Reds on the road next week.

    • Struggles against Astros
      Ryan (4-4) took the loss against Houston on Saturday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings.

      Advice: Ryan was stung by the long ball in the loss, giving up a season-high four homers. He has allowed at least that many home runs in a start four times in his career, though he came into Saturday on pace for a career-best 0.9 HR/9.     • Strikes out 10 in loss
      Gray (7-3) took the loss Saturday versus the Phillies, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 10 over five innings.

      Advice: Gray reached double-digit strikeouts for the second time in 10 starts this year, but he received little run support after a shaky first inning. The right-hander has allowed at least four runs in three of his last five outings. For the season, he's at a 3.00 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 77:15 K:BB over 57 innings.     • Miller strikes out nine in win Saturday
      Bryce Miller threw six shutout innings and picked up the win in the Mariners’ 9-0 victory over the Angels on Saturday.

      Advice: The win was Miller’s fifth of the season. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out nine. Miller’s ERA is now 3.18 on the season. After losing three straight decisions, he’s now won his last two starts. The 25-year-old right-hander is set to face the Royals on the road next week. Rotoworld Saturday, 7:25 pm

      Sonny Gray allowed four runs in five innings and took the loss in the Cardinals’ 6-1 loss against the Phillies on Saturday.

      Advice: Gray gave up five hits, walked three and struck out 10. The Phillies jumped on him early scoring three runs in the first inning. Gray was mostly in charge the rest of the way allowing only one more run and recording 10 punch outs. His 77 strikeouts this season put him inside the top 15 for starting pitchers in all off baseball. The 34-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rockies at home next week.     • Corey Seager reaches four times in rout of Marlins
      Corey Seager went 3-for-5 with a walk in a win for the Rangers over the Marlins on Saturday.

      Advice: Seager doubled, singled twice and got on via the aforementioned free pass for a four-reach day. The 30-year-old now has a 14-game hitting streak, and a line of .235/.314/.333 has improved to .270/.362/.485 during that streak. The struggles are over, folks. Rotoworld Saturday, 5:10 pm
       
    • Joe Ryan gives up four homers in loss to Astros
      Joe Ryan gave up five runs over five innings while picking up a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

      Advice: Ryan gave up eight hits, which is not great, and five of those hits left the park, which is worse. The 27-year-old was coming off an outstanding start against the Royals on Monday. This was anything but. He also walked two and struck out four in one of the worst outings of the season for Ryan. Expect better things for the right-hander against Pittsburgh next week.       Cole Ragans will start on Sunday against the Padres.

      Advice: Ragans will take the ball on regular rest for Sunday’s series finale against San Diego with Brady Singer needing some extra rest as he continues to recover from an illness.       Semien returned to the starting lineup and went 1-for-4 in Friday's 8-2 loss to Miami.

      Advice: Semien was back in the lineup after he sat out Wednesday's game, breaking a streak of 349 consecutive regular-season starts. As it turns out, Semien was dealing with the residual effects of a collision with teammate Adolis Garcia, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com.
