    Advice: Ober left the game in line for the lead, but Griffin Jax allowed the tying run in the eighth inning. Ober has been absolutely dialed in over his last three starts, allowing just four runs with a 27:5 K:BB across 21.1 innings in that span.     Miller will start Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

    Advice: The Giants will use their bullpen to get them through Saturday's contest, and Miller will serve as the opener for the eighth time this season. The 26-year-old owns a 3.79 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 38 innings on the year, though he's given up just one earned run in 7.2 frames during games that he's opened.     Kikuchi (4-8) took the loss Friday as the Blue Jays were routed 16-5 by the Yankees, giving up four runs on four hits and a walk over five-plus innings. He struck out seven.

    Advice: The southpaw was sharp to begin the game and actually took a 3-1 lead into the top of the sixth inning, but after allowing two straight singles to open the frame, Juan Soto flipped the script with a three-run blast that chased Kikuchi from the game. Kikuchi has been tagged for 13 runs in only 11 innings over his last three starts, inflating his ERA to 4.18 with a 1.31 WHIP and 93:21 K:BB through 88.1 innings.   • Drew Thorpe beats Rockies for second victory
    Drew Thorpe allowed two runs and two hits over six innings in defeating the Rockies in a 5-3 game Friday.

    Advice: Thorpe generated a lot of weak contact tonight, particularly with his slider; he threw the pitch just eight times, but the White Sox put it into play on five occasions and never any harder than 86 mph.   • Michael Kopech earns second save in two days
    Michael Kopech pitched a hitless ninth inning against the Rockies for his seventh save Friday.

    Advice: Kopech has saves on back-to-back days after going nearly six weeks without one. It’s good to see, but it does mean he’ll be of Saturday, perhaps creating a save opportunity for Steven Wilson. John Brebbia has also pitched back-to-back days, so he probably won’t be an option.   • Dakota Hudson gives up five runs to White Sox
    Dakota Hudson yielded five runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the White Sox.

    Advice: Pitching on the road against the White Sox is pretty much the easiest assignment Hudson is going to get as a member of the Rockies, but he messed it up by walking five and hitting a batter.   • Bailey Ober fans nine in no-decision vs. Mariners
    Bailey Ober held the Mariners to one run with nine strikeouts in six innings in a no-decision.

    Advice: Ober wasn’t as good as he was in his complete game against Oakland, but it was another pretty strong outing. The right-hander’s only run allowed shouldn’t have happened, as Christian Vazquez couldn’t hold onto a ball that would have had Mitch Haniger out by about 15 feet if it doesn’t get by him.     Stroman came away with a no-decision in Friday's 16-5 rout of the Blue Jays, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

    Advice: The veteran right-hander made his big-league with the Jays in 2014 and had trouble keeping his composure in his return to Toronto, getting the hook after 88 pitches (52 strikes) and not sticking around long enough to benefit from a season-best offensive explosion by the Yankees. Stroman completed six innings only once in five June starts, but on the year he still sports a 3.29 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 70:43 K:BB through 95.2 innings.     Advice: Plesac retired eight straight batters to begin the game before unraveling in the third inning. He posted a quality start in his season debut but has been tagged with eight runs in six frames over his last two outings, shooting his season ERA up to 8.25.
