  • Jorge Soler goes 3-for-5, homers
Jorge Soler went 3-for-5 and hit his 10th homer Monday as the Cubs edged the Pirates 8-7 in 13 innings.

Advice: The Cubs won on Miguel Montero's pinch-hit single in the 13th. Soler, who homered off Tony Watson to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, was gone by that point, having been removed on a double switch. Still, it was a much needed strong night for him. The Cubs are about to get Chris Coghlan back and they've been using Ben Zobrist more in the outfield in order to keep Javier Baez's strong glove in the infield. Soler needs to hit if he's going to play a lot during September. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:32 pm
  • Javier Baez finishes 4-for-6
Javier Baez had four hits in six at-bats in Monday's 13-inning game.

Advice: He was twice thrown out at home plate, though neither was a miscue on his part. Baez entered the night with a .197/.227/.296 line in 71 at-bats during August. Still, his glove has been earning him a lot of playing time. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:25 pm

  • Josh Bell homers, walks twice
Josh Bell homered and walked twice before being removed in a double switch Monday against the Cubs.

Advice: If Clint Hurdle had it to do all over again, he surely would have left Bell in there. The rookie has been the team's best hitter since his recall 10 days ago, and the Pirates were playing short-handed on the bench tonight. It certainly wasn't worth taking Bell out when Hurdle made the move. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:24 pm
  • Matt Shoemaker strikes out seven in win
Matt Shoemaker yielded two runs in seven innings Monday in a win over the Reds.

Advice: Shoemaker struck out seven and walked none. It's the ninth time this year he's gone without walking a batter in a start. He deserves better than his 7-10 record and probably better than his 3.91 ERA; his FIP is about 2/5ths of a run lower. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:19 pm
  • Mike Trout goes 3-for-4, homers
Mike Trout went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and a walk in the win over the Reds on Monday.

Advice: Trout is the AL's best player, again. He probably won't be the MVP, again. Enjoy it anyway. With his two runs scored tonight, he reached the century mark for the fifth straight season. He's scored 78 more runs in anyone in baseball (557, Ian Kinsler next at 479) during that span. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:13 pm
  • C.J. Cron goes 3-for-4, homers
C.J. Cron finished 3-for-4 with a homer and a double Monday against the Reds.

Advice: Cron went 1-for-11 in his first three games back from the DL, but he's hit in six in a row since. He should be an everyday player the rest of the way, making him a fringy mixed-league option. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:10 pm
  • DJ LeMahieu goes 2-for-5, knocks in three
DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI versus the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: The Rockies have played a lot of home games this month, and LeMahieu is taking advantage, having hit .444 with 10 extra-base hits, 16 RBI, 17 walks and 22 runs scored in 23 games. He should have a shot at player of the month honors, but Kris Bryant is the clear favorite. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:41 pm
  • X-rays negative on Corey Seager's wrist
X-rays came back negative on Corey Seager's left wrist.

Advice: Seager was hit by a pitch twice on Monday -- including off his wrist in the seventh inning -- but he stayed in the game. Fortunately, tests ruled out anything serious, but he's expected to get the day off on Tuesday at the very least. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:36 pm

  • Joc Pederson in 0-for-16 slump
Joc Pederson went 0-for-4 on Monday and is 0-for-16 with nine strikeouts over the last week.

Advice: Pederson's start tonight was just his third in seven games, as the Dodgers hit a stretch against a handful of lefties. Perhaps it's the lack of action taking a toll, or perhaps it's just a little slump. Prior to Aug. 23, he had been hitting .284/.389/.526 in 95 at-bats since coming off the disabled list in July. • Jose Peraza exits game with facial contusion
Jose Peraza exited Monday's game against the Angels with a facial contusion.

Advice: Peraza was hit in the ear/jaw area by a pickoff throw at first base in the third inning. He was down on the ground for a while, but fortunately he didn't suffer any fractures. We should know more about his status on Tuesday. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:21 pm

  • Yu Darvish strikes out nine in nice showing
Yu Darvish recorded nine strikeouts while allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings in Monday's 6-3 win over the Mariners.

Advice: Two of the runs charged to Darvish scored after he exited, as Franklin Gutierrez hit a pinch-hit, two-run double off of reliever Jake Diekman in the seventh inning. Still, it was the right-hander's eighth straight quality start, and he continues to pile up strikeouts. Darvish now holds a 3.01 ERA and 90/21 K/BB ratio over 71 2/3 innings this season. He'll take on the Astros on Sunday. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:21 pm
  • Dillon Gee holds down Yankees in win
Dillon Gee held the Yankees to one run over six innings in a victory Monday.

Advice: Gee's rotation spot was in doubt for a spell, but then setbacks from Kris Medlen and Mike Minor took away Kansas City's alternatives. He's done pretty well his last three times out, allowing a total of five runs in 18 1/3 innings. He's still a risky play in AL-only leagues. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:16 pm
  • Alcides Escobar hits three-run homer
Alcides Escobar hit a three-run homer Monday in the win over the Yankees.

Advice: Escobar has doubled his homer total in the last five days, going from two to four. His current .637 OPS is his highest mark since the first week of the season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:13 pm
  • Sam Dyson nails down 30th save
Sam Dyson struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to record his 30th save of the season in Monday's win over the Mariners.

Advice: Dyson faced little resistance in protecting a three-run lead, getting a pair of swinging strikeouts and a groundout. The closer has been a little shaky in August but was recently given a vote of confidence by manager Jeff Banister. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:06 pm
  • Aaron Judge strikes out three times
Aaron Judge fanned all three times he was up Monday against the Royals.

Advice: Judge homered in his first two games and collected two hits in the third. Since then, he's 4-for-36 with no homers and a whopping 20 strikeouts. He'll definitely be good for a few more homers next month, but it remains to be seen whether he'll hit for average at all. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:05 pm
  • Dyson pitches into, out of danger for save
Sam Dyson pitched into danger but earned his 29th save Sunday versus the Indians.

Advice: Dyson gave up a leadoff single to Francisco Lindor in the top of the ninth inning and then issues back-to-back one-out walks to Carlos Santana and Jose Ramirez, but he rallied to strike out Tyler Naquin and then got Abraham Almonte to fly out to end it. Dyson has struggled lately, but his job seems safe for now. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 2:54 pm
  • Seager slugs solo homer in win over Cubs
Corey Seager slugged a solo homer in Saturday’s win over the Cubs.

Advice: Seager finished the day 1-for-4. He’s now up to 23 home runs on the year to go along with a .322/.376/.545 batting line. The Rookie of the Year Award appears to be a lock at this point and he could even get some love for the NL MVP Award. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 4:44 pm

  • Aaron Judge not in Yankees lineup on Saturday
Aaron Judge is not in the Yankees starting lineup for Saturday afternoon's showdown against the Orioles.

Advice: Manager Joe Girardi indicated that it was nothing more than a regular day of rest for the rookie outfielder and that Judge would be back in the lineup on Sunday. Aaron Hicks is starting in his place in right field and will bat eighth against Dylan Bundy and the O's on Saturday. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 8:10 am
  • LeMahieu returns to Rockies lineup Saturday
D.J. LeMahieu has returned to the Rockies starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: LeMahieu has been sidelined since Monday due to inflammation in his left wrist. The 28-year-old is having an outstanding season at the plate, slashing .344/.416/.501 with 10 homers, 50 RBI and nine stolen bases. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 7:35 am
  • Jorge Soler goes 0-for-4
Jorge Soler went 0-for-4 before being lifted from Friday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: He also had a really ugly play in left field in which a ball that should have been caught bounced in front of him and then by him. It didn't hurt the Cubs, though, since it came with two outs and no one on and the next batter was retired. Still, Soler's glove is a problem and he's cooled off some of late after his fast start in his return from the DL. He might be a bit player down the stretch. Rotoworld.com Friday, 11:01 pm
  • Joc Pederson not in Dodgers lineup on Friday
Joc Pederson is not in the Dodgers starting lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: It's just a routine day off for Pederson with left-hander Mike Montgomery toeing the slab for the Mariners. Kike Hernandez is starting in his place in center field and batting fifth for the Dodgers on Friday. Rotoworld.com Friday, 3:50 pm
  • LeMahieu (wrist) out of lineup again Friday
DJ LeMahieu (wrist) remained out of the Rockies' lineup Friday.

Advice: He hasn't played since Monday because of inflammation in his left wrist. The good news is LeMahieu is available off the bench and should be back in the lineup Saturday. Daniel Descalso is at second base in his place. The Rockies also have Ryan Raburn over David Dahl in left field with the Nationals starting southpaw Gio Gonzalez. Rotoworld.com Friday, 12:30 pm
  • Seager ends no-no with ninth-inning single
Corey Seager picked up a dunker of a single with two outs in the ninth inning of Thursday's loss to the Giants, ending Matt Moore's no-hit bid in the process.

Advice: Seager stepped to the plate with two outs in the ninth having previously walked against Moore. He would deny him the no-hitter with a little flare single that landed in right field. For the season as a whole, Seager has done quite a bit more than just dunk singles left and right. He is slashing a meaty .322/.377/.538 with 22 homers, 61 RBI and 86 runs scored over 494 at-bats. • Escobar homers, drives in two to down Marlins
Alcides Escobar finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the Royals' 5-2 win over the Marlins on Thursday.

Advice: Escobar flashed some rarely seen pop in the fourth inning, turning on a Tom Koehler pitch for his third homer of the year. That should be about it for the 29-year-old, who has hit between three and five home runs in each of his last seven seasons. He's also enjoyed a good month of August so far, batting .298 with two of his three homers, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored. Escobar is hitting .263/.292/.331 with 14 steals and 46 runs scored overall. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 8:43 pm
  • Trout's three hits, four RBI propel Angels
Mike Trout went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored as the Angels doubled up the Blue Jays 6-3 on Thursday.

Advice: Trout did all his damage with singles, plating two with a single in the sixth inning before coming through with another two-run single in the seventh. He's now got 82 RBI to go with 97 runs scored -- third-most in the American League -- and a .316/.432/.555 line. He also recently became a member of the 20/20 club, owning 24 homers and 21 steals through 126 games. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 8:08 pm
  • Soler (leg) returns with a 2-for-3 on Wed.
Jorge Soler (leg) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in his return to action Wednesday.

Advice: Soler was out a handful of days after fouling a ball off his leg over the weekend. The double was his seventh of the season. He's slashing .246/.328/.440 in 65 games. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 5:43 am
  • Shoemaker fires six scoreless frames in win
Matt Shoemaker didn't have his strikeout stuff working but managed to cobble together six shutout innings in the Angels' 8-2 victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: He fanned three while allowing just three hits and one walk. It has been an up-and-down year for Shoemaker but today was all up. His 8-13 record is not pretty but his 3.98 ERA is impressive considering how terribly he began the season. He has punched out 134 batters while walking just 30 in his 25 starts. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:35 pm
  • Trout goes 3-for-5 with a solo home run
Mike Trout went 3-for-5 with a double and a solo home run on Wednesday versus the Blue Jays.

Advice: The game's best player fills the box score on a nightly basis and tonight was no exception. He is batting .312/.430/.553 with 24 home runs, 96 runs scored and 78 RBI. He has been running more this year as well, contributing 21 valuable stolen bases to his fantasy owners' riches. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:14 pm
  • Darvish coughs up five runs in six innings
Yu Darvish struggled with his control on Wednesday, which led to five walks and five runs -- three earned -- in six innings of work during a no-decision versus the Reds in a game the Rangers eventually won 6-5.

Advice: He gave up just four base hits while striking out five batters. A throwing error by Elvis Andrus led to the two unearned runs. Darvish hit his first career home run to help atone for his sub-par performance on the mound. Darvish has a 2.91 ERA despite tonight's poor outing and will take his next turn on Monday against the Mariners in the first of a two-start week. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:52 pm
  • Dyson tosses perfect inning for 28th save
Sam Dyson tossed a spotless ninth inning to protect a one-run lead and earn his 28th save of the season on Wednesday.

Advice: He induced three consecutive ground-outs and got through the inning on only eight pitches. He is not a big strikeout guy but he has been effective at keeping the ball on the ground this year. He has a 2.83 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:47 pm
  • Gee yields three runs in 5 1/3 frames
Dillon Gee was charged with three runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Marlins on Wednesday.

Advice: Gee hung zeroes on the scoreboard until the 6th inning when all three runs scored. After getting the first batter out he allowed four consecutive singles to bring in two runs. He was then relieved by Peter Moylan, who gave up a sacrifice fly to let in the third run charged to Gee. The one bad inning spoiled what was shaping up to be an impressive outing. He now has a 5-7 record and 4.55 ERA with 80 strikeouts and 30 walks in 99 innings. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:19 pm
  • Escobar goes 2-for-4 with a double
Alcides Escobar went 2-for-4 with a double in Wednesday's loss to the Marlins.

Advice: The Royals couldn't get anything going versus Jose Fernandez. Escobar was the only Royal with more than one hit. He is now batting .261 with 2 homers and 35 RBI. His 14 stolen bases are the only thing keeping him on the fringes of fantasy usefulness. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:02 pm
  • DJ LeMahieu (wrist) sitting again Wednesday
DJ LeMahieu (wrist) is out of the Rockies' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Brewers.

Advice: LeMahieu was a late scratch Tuesday due to left wrist inflammation and is apparently still dealing with some discomfort. Daniel Descalso will start at second base and bat sixth on Wednesday afternoon against Zach Davies. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 9:26 am
  • Peraza stays hot with two hits, two steals
Jose Peraza singled twice and stole a pair of bases in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: He's now an incredible 9-for-19 at the plate since being recalled last week. There's not really a spot for Peraza to get regular starts once Zack Cozart (Achilles) is ready, but he's certainly playing well enough to force the Reds to make a tough decision. Perhaps they'll bench Scott Schebler. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 6:58 pm

DJ LeMahieu was scratched from the Rockies' lineup Tuesday due to left wrist inflammation.

Advice: Daniel Descalso will start at second base and bat sixth Tuesday versus Brewers right-hander Chase Anderson. This could be a multi-game absence for LeMahieu. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 2:09 pm
  • Josh Bell starting at first base Monday
Josh Bell will start at first base and bat sixth Monday against the Astros.

Advice: Bell has now started back-to-back games at first base against right-handers. It appears that he'll get a chance to take away the starting first base job from the struggling John Jaso. Rotoworld.com Monday, 2:48 pm
  • Peraza goes 4-for-6 with three runs scored
Jose Peraza finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored in the Reds' loss to the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: He doubled twice and singled twice, scoring runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings. Peraza is now 9-for-15 with three RBI and five runs scored since his return to the major leagues on Monday and has lifted his batting average to .301. He's also swiped 10 bases in 36 games. The versatile 22-year-old is capable of continuing to provide sneaky fantasy value down the stretch. Rotoworld.com Monday, 1:50 pm

  • Seager goes 4-for-5 with a homer in win
Corey Seager went 4-for-5 with homer, a walk, three RBI, and three runs scored in Monday’s blowout win over the Reds.

Advice: Seager slugged a two-run blast off Josh Smith in the fifth inning before driving in another run with a single in the eighth. The rookie shortstop has five multi-hit games in his last six and is hitting .385 during the second half. He's batting .321/.375/.540 with 22 homers and 61 RBI on the year. • Jorge Soler scratched with sore leg
Jorge Soler was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a sore leg.

Advice: Soler fouled a ball off his leg during Saturday's game and is apparently still sore. Consider him day-to-day. Matt Szczur has assumed his spot in the lineup. Rotoworld.com Aug 21, 10:46 am
  • Peraza has three hits, homer in return
Jose Peraza went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored Saturday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Peraza celebrated his return to the Reds -- he had been recalled earlier in the day -- with easily his best game as a major leaguer to date. Also of note, he started at shortstop in the game after working at the position in the minors following his August 2 demotion. There's a reason he was a second baseman coming up through the minors, but if the Reds want to use him at short then more power to them. The added eligibility, should he acquire it, would make him a more interesting player come spring 2017. Rotoworld.com Aug 20, 9:19 pm

  • C.J. Cron (hand) activated from 15- DL
Angels activated 1B C.J. Cron from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: He missed about six weeks with a broken hand. Cron struggled during a six-game rehab stint with Triple-A Salt Lake (3-for-20 with five strikeouts) but should resume his role as the Angels' everyday first baseman. He'll hit sixth Saturday against Yankees right-hander Luis Cessa. Rotoworld.com Aug 20, 4:20 pm
  • Josh Bell called up to replace Jung Ho Kang
Pirates recalled 1B Josh Bell from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: He's taking the roster spot left by Jung Ho Kang, who was placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury he suffered against the Marlins on Friday night. Bell is 2-for-2 in his big league career with a single and a grand slam. He's had a terrific year in the minors (.295, 14 HR, 60 RBI) and could be an interesting waiver add in deeper leagues. Rotoworld.com Aug 20, 3:57 pm
  • Jose Peraza called back up by Reds Saturday
Reds recalled INF/OF Jose Peraza from Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: He's taking the place of Keyvius Sampson on the Reds roster. The speedy utility man has hit .250/.290/.284 with 10 swipes in only 93 plate appearances with the big league club this season. He's unlikely to see enough playing time to become relevant in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com Aug 20, 11:49 am

  • C.J. Cron expected to return on Saturday
C.J. Cron (hand) is expected to be activated from the disabled list prior to Saturday's game.

Advice: Cron broke his left hand almost six weeks ago, but has spent the last week on a minor league rehab assignment, going 3-for-20 (.150) with one extra-base hit. Before landing on the shelf, Cron was hitting .278/.333/.475 with 11 homers and 50 RBI in only 77 games. His powerful bat has been sorely missed in the middle of the Angels lineup.
