  • Soto doubles, drives in three against Phils
Geovany Soto went 1-for-3 with three RBI in a win over the Phillies on Sunday.

Advice: Soto drew a bases-loaded walk in the third inning, driving in a run, before swatting a two-run double in the fifth. The production was welcomed from Soto, who has just five hits in 25 at-bats since coming to the A's in a trade. Soto is hitting .222/.290/.349 overall. Rotoworld.com

  • Burnett yields six runs over 4 1/3 versus A's
A.J. Burnett was wild Sunday, walking six while allowing six runs over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Athletics.

Advice: Burnett gave up just three hits, but the six free passes -- including one with the bases loaded -- did him in. It's nothing new for Burnett, who has a MLB-most 93 walks allowed this year. His teammates managed to save him from taking his 18th loss, but Burnett's ERA is up to 4.57 with the rough outing. He's got one final start left this year, and that will come Saturday against the Braves. Rotoworld.com

  • Rosario scores three times, Rox sweep D'backs
Wilin Rosario went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored as the Rockies completed a four-game sweep of the Diamondbacks with Sunday's 8-3 win.

Advice: Rosario was the man on the spot for the Rockies, scoring runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings. Rosario is red hot in recent games, hitting .700 (14-for-20) with two home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored in the past five games. The unconscious stretch has his overall line up to .273/.310/.440 as he attempts to salvage a largely pedestrian season. Rotoworld.com

  • Trumbo homers twice in loss against Rockies
Mark Trumbo homered twice and had three RBI in a loss to the Rockies on Sunday.

Advice: Trumbo's blasts provided all the offense for the Diamondbacks in the loss. He hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning before adding a solo shot in the ninth. Trumbo now has 11 home runs and 53 RBI to go with a .239/.300/.403 line. Rotoworld.com

  • Turner gives up five runs in loss to Dodgers
Jacob Turner allowed five runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Dodgers Sunday.

Advice: Turner gave up three extra-base hits among his eight hits allowed, including Matt Kemp's two-run homer. The loss was the third straight for Turner, dropping him to 5-11 with a 6.33 ERA. Turner will have one more chance to impress the Cubs brass before the offseason, starting Saturday at the Brewers. Rotoworld.com

  • Butler has two hits, RBI in win over Tigers
Billy Butler went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Sunday's win over the Tigers.

Advice: Butler got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first inning, one of nine hits the Royals got off Tigers starter Rick Porcello. The multi-hit game was his first in the month of September as he's become a part-time player down the stretch. Butler is hitting a disappointing .266/.318/.373 with a week left to play. Rotoworld.com

  • Porcello allows nine hits over 3 1/3 in loss
Rick Porcello allowed nine hits and four runs over 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.

Advice: It wasn't Porcello's day, as the Royals got to him for runs in three of the four innings he started. The loss was a microcosm of his past few weeks, as Porcello is now 0-4 in his past five starts. Porcello is 15-12 with a 3.31 ERA overall, a testament to how good he was for the first five months, and he'll look to end on a high note Friday against the Twins. Rotoworld.com

  • Bourn has three hits, three runs vs. Twins
Michael Bourn went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in Sunday's win over the Twins.

Advice: The leadoff hitter played catalyst for the Indians offense, scoring in each of the team's three run-scoring innings. Bourn had a double among his three hits, his first three-hit game since August 28. Bourn is hitting .261/.317/.367 overall this year. Rotoworld.com

  • Billy Butler to play everyday rest of season
Royals manager Ned Yost said Sunday that Billy Butler will be in the Royals lineup every day for the remainder of the season.

Advice: This after he went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's victory to raise his season slash to .266/.318/.373. While he's having a disappointing season at the plate, he's still a better option for the Royals than Josh Willingham or Raul Ibanez in the designated hitter's spot. Rotoworld.com

  • Danks allows two hits, two runs against Rays
John Danks allowed two runs on just two hits in a win over the Rays on Sunday.

Advice: Danks was actually a bit unfortunate to allow two runs, as both hits paired with a walk to produce two runs in the sixth inning. Danks did walk three while striking out five. The win was his 10th of the season, but it represented his first since July 25. Danks will attempt to end on the upswing when he makes his last start of the season Friday against the Royals. • Martin delivers game-winning RBI vs. Brewers
Russell Martin had the game-winning RBI single in the Pirates' win over the Brewers on Sunday.

Advice: Martin broke a scoreless tie with his RBI single in the seventh inning, and the Pirates would win by the same margin. Martin finished 1-for-3 on the day. The extended his hitting streak to 12 games, raising his average to .297. The 31-year-old has had a quietly productive year behind the plate. Rotoworld.com

Anibal Sanchez (pectoral) could be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday or Thursday if Sunday's simulated game goes well.

Advice: The Tigers are expected to use Sanchez in a bullpen role in the final days of the regular season and in the playoffs. • Pagan (back) questionable for Dodgers series
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Angel Pagan (back) is "questionable" to play in the upcoming series versus the Dodgers.

Advice: Pagan returned to action Friday but worse, so he's flown to San Diego to have his ailing back examined by team orthopedist Dr. Ken Akizuki. The Giants are fighting for a playoff spot and will obviously do everything they can to get him back in the lineup, but it's possible we won't see much of him in the final week. Rotoworld.com

  • Nick Markakis (shoulder) out again Sunday
Nick Markakis (shoulder) remained out of the lineup Sunday.

Advice: Markakis hasn't played since being hit on the right shoulder by a pitch Tuesday. He underwent a precautionary X-ray, which didn't reveal anything serious. The injury not a big concern, as the Orioles are just being cautious since they've already wrapped up the American League East. Rotoworld.com

  • Weaver picks up 18th win with 7 strong frames
Jered Weaver improved to 18-8, scattering one run over seven innings as the Angels felled the Rangers by an 8-5 score on Saturday.

Advice: Weaver seems to be in post-season shape, as he now sports a 1.91 ERA over his last five starts. Against the Rangers, he allowed just five hits and a walk while fanning seven. He'll take a 3.43 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 164/63 K/BB ratio into his final start of the regular season on Friday in Seattle against the Mariners. Rotoworld.com

  • House allows two runs in five innings vs MIN
T.J. House scattered six hits and allowed two runs over five innings in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Twins.

Advice: This was a much needed win for the Indians, as they desperately attempt to cling to life in the Wild Card race heading into the final week. They're currently 3.5 back of the final playoff slot. House wasn't spectacular, but he mostly held the Twins at bay during his time on the mound. Both of the runs on his line came off of RBI grounders and he was able to limit the damage to singular runs. In addition to the six hits allowed, House walked one and struck out five. In September, House has allowed just three runs in 19 innings. He holds a 3.43 ERA and 1.34 WHIP overall. By the time he takes the mound for his final start of the regular season against the Rays next weekend, House and the Indians should know whether they have any shot at the playoffs. Rotoworld.com

  • Angel Pagan out of Saturday's lineup
Angel Pagan isn't expected to play again this weekend due to back soreness.

Advice: Pagan started Friday, going 0-for-2 with a walk and a steal in his first appearance in five days. His back felt worse afterwards, and he's considered questionable for the Dodgers series that begins Monday. Juan Perez is in center tonight, with Gregor Blanco playing left. Barring a positive report tomorrow, Pagan won't be an option in mixed leagues for the final week of the season. Rotoworld.com

  • Billy Butler not in Royals lineup on Saturday
Billy Butler is not in the Royals starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Josh Willingham has getting the start in the DH spot and is hitting third against opposing hurler Max Scherzer. It has been a rough season for the 28-year-old slugger who is hitting .264/.317/.372 with just nine homers and 59 RBI. Rotoworld.com

  • Angel Pagan steals base in return
Angel Pagan went 0-for-2 with a walk and a steal before being removed from Friday's game against the Padres.

  • Martin powers Pirates to win over Brewers
Russell Martin hit a dramatic go-ahead three-run homer in a 4-2 win over the Brewers on Friday night.

Advice: After Yovani Gallardo pitched seven scoreless innings, Martin put the Pirates in front in the eighth inning against Jonathan Broxton and sent PNC Park into pandemonium. The veteran backstop has had a fantastic under-the-radar year, batting .296/.408/441 with 11 home runs and 66 RBI while throwing out 39 percent of attempted basestealers. He's a big reason why the Pirates are currently on track for their second straight postseason appearance. Look for him to land a nice contract in free agency this winter. Rotoworld.com

  • Angels could use three-man rotation in ALDS
Angels manager Mike Scioscia indicated Friday that the team could utilize a three-man rotation in the American League Division Series.

Advice: Assuming Matt Shoemaker makes it back healthy, it would presumably be he, C.J. Wilson and Jered Weaver, with Weaver getting the call to work on short rest. Given the critical importance of those games and the uncertainty surrounding the rest of the rotation, it certainly seems like a viable strategy on the Halos end. Rotoworld.com

  • Angel Pagan returns to Giants lineup Friday
Angel Pagan has returned to the Giants starting lineup on Friday.

Advice: Pagan had been sidelined since Sunday after experiencing renewed tightness in his back. He should still be considered day-to-day over the final week and a half of the season, as the Giants won't want to push him too hard and risk another re-injury. Rotoworld.com

  • Rosario walks Rockies off with a 2-run homer
Wilin Rosario sent the Rockies home happy, clubbing a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Rockies had chipped away at the Diamondbacks' five-run lead, scoring twice in the sixth and twice in the eighth to make it 6-5. With two outs and a man on, Rosario took advantage of an Addison Reed offering, sending a 387-foot blast to left-center. The catcher, who finished 4-for-5 on the evening, now has 12 homers on the season with 51 RBI and a .265/.301/.432 slash line. Rotoworld.com

  • Jered Weaver scratched from Thursday's start
Jered Weaver has been scratched from Thursday's start against the Mariners.

  • Angel Pagan (back) expected to play on Friday
The results of Angel Pagan's (back) MRI came back clean on Wednesday and the veteran outfielder expects to return to the Giants starting lineup on Friday.

Advice: Pagan has reported significant improvement after sitting out the entire three-game set against the Diamondbacks. • SP Burnett coughs up 4 ER to Padres in loss
A.J. Burnett coughed up five runs -- four earned -- in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday as the Phillies fell to the Padres.

Advice: Burnett struck out four, walked four, and gave up eight hits, one of which was a two-run homer by Alexi Amarista. For whatever reason, Burnett had all kinds of trouble with San Diego's slap-hitting infielder. This start was actually a bit better than his most recent work, as the veteran had gone 2-7 with a 5.68 ERA in his last nine starts. Burnett's next outing takes place in Oakland on Sunday. Rick Porcello gave up two runs over eight innings in a no-decision against the Twins Tuesday.

Advice: Porcello surrendered seven hits, three of which came from Kennys Vargas, and walked two. He finished the eighth inning trailing, but the Tigers came back in the ninth to let him off the hook. As it is, Porcello remains 15-11 with a 3.19 ERA on the year. The right-hander still has two starts left this year to try to improve on his career year, with the next coming Monday against the White Sox. Rotoworld.com

  • Martin's homer sends Pirates to win over BOS
Russell Martin extended his hitting streak to eight games, slugging a two-run home run in the second inning of Tuesday's win against the Red Sox.

Advice: Martin, who finished 1-for-4, took Anthony Ranaudo out to right-center for a two-run home run in the second inning, putting the Buccos up 2-0 at the time. It's the catcher's 10th long ball of the season, and he now owns a .294/.408/.434 with 63 RBI. Martin should wind up with a few back-end NL MVP votes after the season. Rotoworld.com

Mark Trumbo hit a grand slam to lead the Diamondbacks past the Giants 6-2 on Monday.

The big damage came in the third frame, when Trumbo swatted a Ryan Vogelsong offering over the right field wall to plate Wade Miley, Chris Owings and A.J. Pollock. Wilin Rosario went 3-for-4 and homered against the Dodgers on Monday.

Advice: It's worth wondering what's in store for Rosario after his disappointing offensive season; despite all of his success in 2012 and 2013, the Rockies tried to sign Brian McCann last winter with the idea of moving Rosario out from behind the plate. There won't really be anywhere to move Rosario this winter, so he'll either remain a catcher or possibly get traded. It'd be a case of selling low for the Rockies, though. Rotoworld.com

Jered Weaver won for the 17th time this season by limiting the Astros to one run in seven innings and striking out 12 on Saturday.

Advice: Weaver fell three strikeouts short of his career high, but it's just the third time in his career that he's gotten to 12 and the first time since April 6, 2012 that he's even reached double figures. He's previous season high was nine against the White Sox in June. Weaver ended up throwing 101 pitches, 76 of them strikes. Advice: Burnett becomes the first Phillies pitcher to lose 16 games since Mark Leiter lost 17 in 1997. He was fine until he tired in the sixth inning, relenting three runs. Overall, Burnett gave up six hits and three walks while fanning seven. It's been a forgettable year for the 37-year-old, as he now owns a 4.34 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 176/83 K/BB ratio. Burnett will take on the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday next. Rotoworld.com

  • T.J. House goes seven scoreless in win
T.J. House allowed four hits over seven innings as the Indians beat the Twins 2-0 in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader.

Advice: The Indians swept the doubleheader, outscoring the Twins 10-2 on the day. House has gone seven innings in three straight outings after never doing so in his first 13 starts of the year, and he's lowered his ERA from 4.18 to 3.42 during the span. Mixed leaguers might want to give him a try when he faces the Astros next week. Rotoworld.com
