    • Retreating to bench
Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Rosario will head to the bench after he had started in each of the previous four games while seeing time at three different spots in the infield (second base, third base and shortstop). Though the right-handed-hitting Rosario should remain a mainstay in the lineup versus lefties, his opportunities to play against right-handed pitching could be more limited moving forward after the Rays activated the lefty-hitting Jonathan Aranda from the injured list Tuesday. • Runs bases Wednesday
Thomas (knee) ran the bases Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Thomas is running again for the first time since being diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee three weeks ago. Zuckerman notes that Thomas wasn't running at full effort but seemed to be moving at close to 100 percent speed. Running the bases is typically one of the last steps a player coming back from a knee injury takes before embarking on a rehab assignment, though it's not yet clear when Thomas might report to a minor-league affiliate for game action. • Lane Thomas runs the bases before game
Lane Thomas, coming back from a sprained MCL in his left knee, ran the bases at Nationals Park prior to Wednesday’s game.

Advice: MASN’s Mark Zuckerman said he wasn’t quite running at 100 percent but wasn’t all that far below that. Thomas has also been hitting, and barring a setback, he should return before the end of the month. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:49 am

    • Taking seat against southpaw
Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: With left-hander Garrett Crochet on the hill for Chicago, the lefty-hitting Rosario will hit the bench for the series finale. Rosario picked up starts in the corner outfield in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader, going a collective 2-for-9 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:21 am
    • Fine after freak accident
Soler (shoulder/head) didn't suffer any significant injuries after getting hit in the head while hitting on the field Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Soler took swings on the field before Tuesday's game against the Dodgers as the next step in rehabbing his strained right shoulder, but he was removed by a trainer after a foul ball hit off the top of the cage and struck him in the head. However, it appears the outfielder managed to escape the incident with minimal damage. He will be eligible to come off the injured list Wednesday, though there is no telling whether or not he'll be ready to play then. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 6:56 pm

    • Wenceel Pérez has two hits in loss to Marlins
Wenceel Pérez went 2-for-4 in Tuesday’s loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Both of Pérez’s hits were singles, but he had three batted balls of at least 95 mph on the day and has been solid in his rookie campaign, slashing .304/.375/.506. His ability to play multiple positions around the diamond will likely help him remain in the lineup as the Tigers get healthier, and he’s certainly worth an add in deeper formats while he’s swinging the bat well. • Hit in head during BP
Soler (shoulder) hit on the field Tuesday but walked off with a trainer after suffering an apparent injury, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Tuesday marked the first time Soler has hit off the field since landing on the IL, but his session came to an abrupt end when he fouled off a ball that ricocheted off the top of the cage and hit him in the head. It's unclear how severe the damage is, but the 32-year-old was at least shaken up enough for him to be shut down for the day. The Giants will take a closer look at him and may offer more information on his status in the near future. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 4:55 pm

    • Jorge Soler leaves BP on Tuesday with trainer
Jorge Soler (shoulder) left batting practice on Tuesday with a trainer.

Advice: It’s not what you want to see. Soler was hitting on the field at Oracle Park for the first time since landing on the injured list last week with a right shoulder strain when he fouled a ball off the top of the cage that ricochetted back and struck him in the head. • Doubles, triples, drives in three
Rosario went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBI and a run scored during Monday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Rosario's two-out, two-run triple in the first put the Rays on the board while his run-scoring double in the eighth provided the Rays with their final margin of victory. Rosario has found a regular role as the top utility man for Tampa, batting .296 with a .312 on-base percentage, six doubles, three triples, two homers, 18 RBI, 12 runs and five stolen bases over 138 plate appearances.
