      Cole (elbow) is expected to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

      Advice: Cole will throw off a mound for the first time since being placed on the 60-day injured list with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow in late March. The 33-year-old is reportedly targeting a return in "mid June," according to Heyman. The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the IL on May 27, but it appears as if he will remain sidelined for awhile longer than that. With his pedigree, it comes as no surprise that the Yankees are being cautious with their ace, who produced a 2.63 ERA with a 9.6 K/9 over 209 innings in 33 starts last year.       The Diamondbacks transferred Kelly (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

      Advice: Kelly was placed on the 15-day IL on April 23 after sustaining a teres major strain in his right shoulder. Due to his transfer to the 60-day IL, Kelly will be on the shelf until at least the first week of July, and his rehab progress over the next few weeks will determine whether the right-hander will need more time beyond that window.       The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports Gerrit Cole (elbow) is now targeting a mid-June return.

      Advice: Heyman adds that Cole is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on Saturday as he works his way back from nerve inflammation in his right elbow. The 33-year-old fantasy ace should progress to facing hitters in the coming weeks before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment.       Advice: McKenzie was highly effective Wednesday despite getting down in the count early and often, striking out at least six batters for the third consecutive start, with five of those strikeouts coming on his curveball. The right-hander issued only one free pass in the contest, which marked a season best, while also going seven innings for the first time in the early campaign.       Triston McKenzie allowed two runs with six strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Wednesday.

      Advice: McKenzie was outstanding against the Astros on Wednesday. He had allowed just one hit across five scoreless innings before a double and a base hit brought the first run in for Houston in the sixth. Kyle Tucker led off the seventh inning with a game-tying homer. McKenzie finished the inning with two strikeouts, giving him six on the day.       Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Cole had a "heavy day" of throwing off flat ground Tuesday, but the skipper is unsure when the right-hander will be ready to throw a bullpen session, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Cole has been playing catch multiple times per week for about two weeks while steadily increasing his throwing distance. He hasn't hit any reported snags in his recovery since resuming his throwing program, but it's not yet clear when Cole will be able to take the next meaningful step forward in his recovery from his right elbow injury by getting back on the mound.       Darvish (1-1) grabbed a win over the Reds on Tuesday, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just three hits in the outing. He struck three and did not walk a batter.

      Advice: Darvish was finally able to pick up his first win of the season and help the Padres end a five-game losing streak. Tuesday was his first shutout effort since July 29 of last year. He was efficient, needing 70 pitches to get through five while inducing a bunch of weak contact. His strikeout numbers remain low in comparison to his career numbers, as he's now struck out three or fewer batters in three of his six starts so far. Still, Tuesday's outing was exactly what the Padres needed out of him, and he'll take a 3.45 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB into his next outing, which projects to be against the Cubs at the beginning of next week.
