    • Jordan Hicks strikes out five in win vs. Rockies
Jordan Hicks allowed three runs with five strikeouts over five innings in a win over the Rockies on Wednesday.

Advice: After a clean first inning, a triple and a wild pitch brought the first run in to score for the Rockies in the second. Hicks ran into more trouble in the fifth, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. His day was done after five frames on 92 pitches. He struck out five. The 27-year-old right-hander has enjoyed an early breakout as a starter, posting a 2.30 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 35/16 K/BB ratio across 43 innings. Hicks will take on the Dodgers in San Francisco on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:30 pm

    • Mitch Garver slugs solo homer in loss to Twins
Mitch Garver went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk against the Twins on Wednesday.

Advice: After drawing a walk in the second inning, Garver put the Mariners on the board in the fourth with a solo homer off Chris Paddack, extending his hitting streak to five games. He added a base hit in the sixth for his second hit of the day. The 33-year-old slugger is slashing .181/.290/.352 with four homers and 10 RBI across 124 plate appearances. • Kevin Ginkel struggles in save chance on Wednesday
Kevin Ginkel struggled in a save chance against the Reds on Wednesday night, giving up a run on two hits and a walk while recording only one out.

Advice: Ginkel came on with a two-run lead to protect, but things got interesting in a hurry as Jake Fraley drew a walk, Jeimer Candelario smacked a one-out single and TJ Friedl tacked on an RBI single. That caused manager Torey Lovullo to have a quick hook, getting Joe Mantiply to come out and finish the job. With Paul Sewald back, Ginkel wasn’t going to hold down the closer’s gig any longer, but if he did still have any leash in the role, it may have evaporated on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:38 pm
    • Corey Seager sits for nightcap on Wednesday
Corey Seager is not in the Rangers’ starting lineup for the nightcap of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Athletics.

Advice: The 30-year-old superstar shortstop went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout during the first game and is slashing an underwhelming .230/.303/.309 with three homers and 13 RBI on the season. Josh Smith will start in his place at shortstop and bat fifth for the Rangers on Wednesday evening against Osvaldo Bido and the A’s. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:29 pm

    • Taking seat for nightcap
Seager is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Athletics.

Advice: The 30-year-old went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in the Game 1 loss, which ended a modest five-game hit streak. Josh Smith will shift to shortstop and Ezequiel Duran will start at third base while Seager receives some rest in the nightcap. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:22 pm

    • Chris Bassitt pitches into seventh in victory
Chris Bassitt pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball and struck out six Wednesday as the Blue Jays bested the Phillies 5-3.

Advice: The Jays wanted a little extra from Bassitt today with Yimi Garcia still unavailable and a tired bullpen after Tuesday’s 10-1 loss, and they got it, even though Bassitt didn’t get through seven as he would have liked. Bassitt struck out six and walked two. The win makes him 3-5 with a 5.06 ERA ahead of next week’s outing against the Orioles. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:10 pm

    • Strong effort vs. Phillies
Bassitt (3-5) earned the win Wednesday over the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out six.

Advice: It was an impressive outing from Bassitt, as the right-hander limited a powerful Phillies offense to just three hits to snap a three-start losing streak. It's been an inconsistent start to the year for Bassitt though he seems to be rounding into form of late, delivering back-to-back quality starts. He lowered his ERA to 5.06 with a 1.55 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB across his first 42.2 innings this year. Bassitt's currently lined up for a road matchup against the Orioles in his next outing early next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:49 pm

    • Placed on IL
The Rays placed Pepiot on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left lower leg contusion.

Advice: The transaction is retroactive to Monday, so Pepiot could be activated as soon as May 21 if he makes a speedy recovery from the leg injury, which he suffered when he was hit by a line drive in Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Mets. Taj Bradley (pectoral) was reinstated from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move and will be plugged into Pepiot's spot in the rotation beginning with Friday's game against the Yankees. • Rays place Ryan Pepiot (leg) on 15-day IL
Rays placed RHP Ryan Pepiot on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 6, with a left lower leg contusion.

Advice: Taj Bradley was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move and will make his 2024 regular season debut on Friday against the Yankees. Fortunately for fantasy managers, Pepiot should only need a minimum stint on the injured list and should be ready to jump right back into the Rays’ rotation when that time comes.
