    • Dominant in win
Javier (3-1) earned the win over the Athletics on Wednesday, pitching six shutout innings while allowing two hits and one walk. He struck out eight.

Advice: Javier came out firing Thursday, striking out five of the first eight batters he faced before finishing with a season-high eight punchouts on the night. The right-hander threw first-pitch strikes to only nine of the 21 batters he faced, but he also produced 15 whiffs as he cruised to his third win of the season. It was a nice return to form for Javier, who was shelled for seven runs in his first start after returning from the injured list a week ago. The quality start was his third of the campaign, while it also marked the second time this season he's allowed two or fewer hits in an outing. Rotowire.com Today, 4:08 am
    • Javier picks up third win vs. A’s
Cristian Javier struck out eight in six shutout innings and picked up the win in the Astros’ 8-1 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Javier allowed only two hits and a walk. It was a good bounce back start for him after he had allowed seven runs against the Tigers in his last start. Javier lowered his ERA to 3.23 on the season. He’ll face the Angels at home in his next start. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:57 pm
    • Keeps rolling Wednesday
Gray (2-1) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three over 6.1 shutout innings to earn the win Wednesday versus the Guardians.

Advice: Gray has strung together four straight quality starts after posting just one over his first six outings this season. During his hot streak, the right-hander has allowed just four runs while posting a 20:3 K:BB over 27.1 innings. Gray is at a 2.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 52:14 K:BB through 52 innings across 10 appearances (nine starts) in 2024. He'll look to keep it up in his next start, tentatively projected to come on the road against the Phillies. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:46 pm

    • Struggles in short start
Morton (3-1) took the loss Wednesday versus the Cubs, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out four over three innings.

Advice: Morton worked a high pitch count, needing 76 pitches (48 strikes) to get through three frames in his shortest outing of the season. He had pitched into the sixth inning in each of his other seven starts. The 40-year-old's poor start caused his ERA to balloon to 3.52 from 3.14, and he's sporting a 1.15 WHIP and 44:17 K:BB over 46 innings. Assuming there's not an injury at play, Morton is tentatively projected for a road rematch with the Cubs in his next start. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:14 pm

    • Charlie Morton chased after three innings
Charlie Morton had a rough start Wednesday allowing three earned runs in just three innings. The Cubs had five hits while Morton walked three more and struck out four.

Advice: Mike Tauchman homered on the first pitch he saw from Morton and nothing was easy after that. Even the unearned he allowed was on his own poor pick-off attempt wide or Matt Olson at first base. It’s still been a solid season overall for Morton and he’ll take a 3.52 ERA into a rematch against these Cubs on Monday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:47 pm

    • Jon Gray tosses 6 1/3 shutout in win vs. Guardians
Jon Gray tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings with three strikeouts in a win over the Guardians on Wednesday.

Advice: Gray’s outstanding run continued on Wednesday with another stellar outing. He held the Guardians scoreless over 6 1/3 frames, stranding four hits and two walks while striking out three batters. After giving up five runs in his first start, Gray has not allowed more than two runs in each of his last eight outings. The 32-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 52/14 K/BB ratio across 52 innings. Gray will take on the Phillies on the road next Wednesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:38 pm

    • Reid Detmers shaky again, gives up five runs
Reid Detmers gave up five runs — four earned — in five innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

Advice: Detmers is high on the short list of the game’s most frustrating pitchers. After a very encouraging open that saw him go 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA in his first four starts, he’s 0-4 with an 8.46 ERA in his last five turns. His peripherals backed up the hot start, but they also mostly back up the huge decline since. We have no clue what’s next from him, but we’d be hesitant to give up on him in mixed leagues; his stuff really does seem to be better than it was last year. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:24 pm

    • Struggles versus Cardinals
Detmers allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Cardinals.

Advice: While he avoided a fifth straight loss, it was still a poor showing for Detmers. He's given up at least four earned runs in each of his last five outings while walking multiple batters in four of them. He kept the ball in the yard Tuesday, which was a positive, but it's not as encouraging as it could be since the Cardinals have been bereft of power this year. Detmers is at a 5.19 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 56:18 K:BB over 50.1 innings across nine starts in 2024. He's projected to make his next start on the road in Houston. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:50 pm

    • Earns first save
Puk earned the save Tuesday against the Tigers, delivering a scoreless 10th inning in a 1-0 victory.

Advice: After the Marlins finally opened the scoring in the top of the 10th inning, Puk induced three straight flyouts in the bottom half to strand the free runner at second and earn his first save in his second appearance out of the bullpen this season. Puk spent three weeks on the IL with shoulder fatigue after struggling mightily to a 9.22 ERA in four chances as a starter. The 29-year-old left-hander certainly had more success out of the bullpen last season, when he pitched to a 3.97 ERA with 15 saves in 56.2 innings. Puk was immediately inserted back into a high-leverage role, though he'll likely work primarily as a setup option ahead of Tanner Scott. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:01 pm
