    • Rutschman knocks in three Thursday
Adley Rutschman went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI against the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Rutschman had an RBI single in the third inning to tie the game and a two-run single in the sixth inning to put the Orioles up 7-2. He’s putting together another nice season with a .299 average and 31 RBI on the year.

    • Adolis Garcia hits solo homer in loss to Phillies
Adolis Garcia hit a solo homer in a loss to the Phillies on Thursday.

Advice: Garcia took Zack Wheeler deep in the second inning. The 31-year-old slugger has gone deep a dozen times thus far in 2024 while driving in 36 runs over Texas’s first 51 games. He also drew a walk, and he’s now slashing .253/.300/.500. Garcia is a flawed player, but the power-production is going to make him relevant for a long time. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:20 pm

    • Rays activate Shane Baz, option him to Triple-A
Rays activated RHP Shane Baz from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz was strong in his last outing and had gotten up to 76 pitches. However, his command still needs to be refined as he works back from Tommy John surgery. Baz is likely to make a few starts in the minors and, provided they go well, could join the Rays’ rotation at some point in June. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:12 am

    • Activated, optioned to Triple-A
The Rays reinstated Baz (elbow) from the injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz has been on the injured list all season while completing the final stages of recovery from his July 2022 Tommy John surgery. The 24-year-old righty started four games at Triple-A during his rehab assignment, posting a 6.00 ERA and 1.92 WHIP while striking out eight batters and walking 11 through 12 innings. He'll remain with Durham despite being fully recovered, though there is still a possibility he contributes to the Rays' pitching staff later this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:08 am

    • Shane Baz continues to improve in rehab starts
Shane Baz allowed one run on three hits in four innings for Triple-A Durham on Wednesday night.

Advice: More importantly, Baz was up to 76 pitches and induced 14 whiffs in just four innings on the day. He had a 66 percent strike right but his overall command still needs some work, walking three batters and hitting one. His stuff has graded out above-average but command is often the last thing to come back after Tommy John surgery, so we’ll hope that he can iron that out in his next starts. He may have one more rehab start before being activated off his rehab assignment, but we shouldn’t expect more than five innings in his few first outings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:50 am

    • Jake Cronenworth playing 2B for Padres on Thursday
Jake Cronenworth is starting at second base for the first time in the 2024 season.

Advice: This felt inevitable after the Padres traded for Luis Arraez, who is a well below-average defensive second baseman. Arraez will now slide to first base with Cronenworth moving to second. Cronenworth has been an above-average defensive second baseman over the last four seasons, so this move doesn’t figure to hurt the Padres at all and could be a boost for their pitchers. • Homers in win
Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Marte singled in his first at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 23 games and later added a solo homer to lead off the eighth, giving the Diamondbacks a 5-0 lead. The long ball was the second baseman's fifth this month, and he's now recorded at least one RBI in three of his last five games, batting .318 over that brief stretch. • Completes four innings
Baz (elbow) allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out four across four innings during a rehab start with Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Advice: This was Baz's best rehab appearance since starting the assignment May 4. He's still fighting his control, as he has walked 11 batters across 12 innings, though that shouldn't come as a significant surprise given his lengthy layoff since last pitching in a meaningful game. The Rays will likely want him to make at least one more start in the minors, but he could rejoin the big-league rotation in early June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:10 am

    • Ketel Marte homers, extends hit streak to 21 games
Ketel Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in the Diamondbacks’ 6-0 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Advice: Marte came into this one riding a 20-game hitting streak. He extended it to 21 games right away with a base hit in the first inning. Marte later took Ryan Yarbrough deep for a solo homer in the eighth inning. The 30-year-old second baseman is hitting .291/.339/.523 with 10 homers, 35 runs scored, and 27 RBI across 221 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 10:03 pm
