    • Bryan Reynolds extends hitting streak to 23 games
      Bryan Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 23 consecutive games on Wednesday in the Pirates’ victory over the Reds.

      Advice: Reynolds officially owns the longest hit streak of the 2024 campaign after a first-inning single on Wednesday afternoon against Reds starter Graham Ashcraft. It was his lone hit in five at-bats, but the fact that he got it out of the way right out of the gate took all of the drama out of this one. The 29-year-old outfielder is in the midst of a stellar stretch at the dish, batting .323 (40-for-124) with seven homers and one steal over his last 30 games. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:43 pm
       
    • Heading to bench Wednesday
      Fry is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

      Advice: After leaving Sunday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays earlier due to elbow inflammation, Fry returned to the lineup as a designated hitter for both of the Guardians' first two games in Baltimore, going 2-for-8 with two doubles and an RBI. The Guardians haven't indicated that Fry is dealing with a setback with the elbow, so his absence from the lineup Wednesday is likely just a pre-planned maintenance day.       Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored Tuesday against the Reds.

      Advice: Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 22 games, but his power has been particularly notable of late. Across his last six starts, he has gone deep four times to bring his total on the season to 13. Across the entirety of his hitting streak, Reynolds has hit .360 with 16 RBI and 15 runs.       Cole (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Yankees fell 9-7 to the Mets, surrendering six runs on seven hits -- including four home runs -- and four walks over four innings. He failed to strike out a batter.

      Advice: Making his second start of the season after recovering from an elbow issue, Cole simply couldn't locate his pitches as he served up four or more long balls for only the second time in his career -- the other such start came against the Twins in June 2022. The veteran right-hander did throw 72 pitches (44 strikes) Tuesday, up from 62 in his season debut as the Yankees gradually increase his workload.       Kwan went 1-for-5 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 10-8 win over the Orioles.

      Advice: Kwan has let his bat do the talking since he returned from a hamstring injury, going 33-for-75 (.440) over his last 19 contests. Predictably, he hasn't tried his luck much on the bases, going 1-for-2 in stolen base attempts in that span. He's now at a .385/.443/.563 slash line with seven home runs, 24 RBI, 48 runs scored and four steals over 51 contests, and it's safe to assume his speed will remain down given his history of hamstring issues.       Abrams went 3-for-3 with two walks, one RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 9-7 loss to the Padres.

      Advice: Abrams has rattled off three hits in four of his last five games, and he's added three steals, three RBI and eight runs scored in that span. The shortstop's sizzling stretch has him up to a .283/.335/.507 slash line through 71 contests. His .842 OPS is his highest mark since May 12. Abrams has done a little of everything this year, adding 12 home runs, 40 RBI, 48 runs scored, 13 steals, 19 doubles and five triples. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:08 pm
       
    • CJ Abrams reaches five times in loss to Padres
      CJ Abrams went 3-for-3 with two walks Tuesday against the Padres.

      Advice: It’s too bad this netted Abrams only one run and one RBI, even though the Nationals scored seven times. Unfortunately, the play from Abrams in this game that everyone will see was him being thrown out after lazily going back to first base following a single. He was also picked off first base in the game. He later appeared to have a stolen base, only to wind up getting sent back to first base because the umpire interfered with the catcher’s throw.     • Cole: velocity dip versus Mets intentional
      Gerrit Cole said after Tuesday’s start that he’s healthy and that he intentionally dialed back his velocity tonight after a long first inning.

      Advice: Cole topped out at 98.9 mph in the first tonight, but he was often throwing 92-93 mph in the second. He did pick it up some in the end, throwing his final fastball 95.3 mph, but it was an awfully discouraging performance. It’s good to know he doesn’t think he’s hurt, though.     • Cole allows four home runs in loss
      Gerrit Cole allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday.

      Advice: There’s a fair amount to be concerned about here. The Yankees ace walked four and struck out nobody on the day. His fastball sat 95.4 mph on the day which was down 1.3 mph from his first start. He hit 98 mph in the first inning but by the third inning, he threw only four fastballs and just one was over 94 mph. Home runs hit by Mark Vientos and Harrison Bader were on fastballs that were 91.5 and 93.2 mph. Given that Cole’s elbow injury to start the year involved some nerve issues, there’s a concern that there remains a lingering impact on Cole’s health or performance. It could also just be one bad start, but this is the second outing of his career that he did not strike out any batters and the other was on May 20, 2016, so it’s certainly a performance we want to take note of.
