    • Nico Hoerner swipes two bases in return to lineup
Nico Hoerner went 1-for-4 with two steals Wednesday against the Rays in his return to the Cubs lineup.

Advice: Hoerner hadn’t started since suffering a hairline fracture in his hand Thursday. His two steals tonight gave him nine for the year, eight of which have come since May 1. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:13 pm

    • Back in action Wednesday
Hoerner (hand) will start at second base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Advice: Though Hoerner was diagnosed with a small fracture in his right hand over the weekend, he avoided a stint on the injured list and will make his return to the lineup after missing only four starts. Before his recent absence, Hoerner had gone 0-for-8 over his last three starts, and it may take a bit for him to regain full strength in his hand and recapture the exit velocities he had provided prior to suffering the injury. Fantasy managers in leagues with daily lineup moves may be best served leaving Hoerner on the bench until he resumes producing at a level that warrants keeping him active. • Nico Hoerner (hand) gets into Tuesday’s contest
Nico Hoerner (hand) made an appearance as a defensive replacement during Tuesday’s loss to the Rays.

Advice: Hoerner appears likely to avoid a trip to the injured list as he attempts to play through a small fracture in his right hand. The 27-year-old second baseman was held out of the lineup on Tuesday for the fourth straight contest, but was able to come off the bench as a defensive replacement in the late innings. The biggest question for fantasy managers is whether the lingering hand issue will impact his offensive performance moving forward, even if he doesn’t wind up requiring a lengthy absence. • Christopher Morel has two hits, HR in loss
Christopher Morel went 2-for-4 with a solo home runs and two runs scored in a loss to the Rays on Tuesday.

Advice: Morel crushed a 409-foot home run off of Zach Eflin for his 13th home run on the season. Both of his hits were at least 102.7 mph, but he also struck out once in the game, so he showed his full profile. The 24-year-old is hitting just .208 on the year, so even though the power is undeniable, he’ll need to keep producing like this if he wants to remain a fixture in the lineup as the Cubs make a playoff push over the summer. • Pops 13th home run
Morel went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Morel connected for this third home run of the month and 13th of the season in the fourth inning. The 24-year-old is now halfway to his long ball total from last year through 66 games. Morel only needed 107 contests to record those 26 homers in 2023, but he seems primed to play more games this season if he stays healthy, and that could result in a new career best in the power department. • Nico Hoerner available off bench on Tuesday vs. Rays
Nico Hoerner (hand) remains absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Rays.

Advice: Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Hoerner is available off the bench after getting through an extensive hitting session on Tuesday afternoon. There’s some optimism the 27-year-old second baseman will be able to play through the issue, and should return to the lineup soon, but he remains on the bench to open a three-game set down in Tampa Bay. • On bench again Tuesday
Hoerner (hand) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Rays.

Advice: Hoerner is dealing with a small fracture in his right hand and will miss a fourth straight start. According to Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times, the 27-year-old partook in a hitting session Tuesday and will be available off the bench, and he could be back in the lineup for Wednesday's contest. Michael Busch is getting a second straight start at second base Tuesday. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:02 pm

    • Sitting as expected Sunday
Hoerner (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Cincinnati.

Advice: The 27-year-old was diagnosed with a small fracture in his hand Saturday after being hit by a pitch Thursday, so it's not a surprise he's sitting for the series finale versus the Reds. Hoerner won't necessarily require a trip to the injured list, and he may be able to play through the injury once the swelling subsides. Michael Busch will handle the keystone Sunday for the Cubs. • Nico Hoerner (hand) out again Sunday vs. Reds
Nico Hoerner (hand) is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Reds.

Advice: Hoerner is dealing with a small fracture in his right hand, and he won’t be able to play until the pain and swelling are able to subside. While Hoerner is out, Michael Busch will handle second base duties. Hoerner should be considered day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list can’t be ruled out just yet. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:01 am
