    • Throwing from 90 feet
Cimber (shoulder) threw from 90 feet Monday and Thursday, per MLB.com.

Advice: Cimber was placed on the injured list June 15 due to right shoulder inflammation one day after a poor outing against San Francisco , though he reportedly had been getting treatment on the shoulder prior to that appearance. The righty reliever appears to be making progress in his recovery given his recent throwing. However, it's not clear when Cimber will be ready to return to the Angels' bullpen. • Begins throwing program
Leiter (forearm) began a throwing program Friday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Manager Craig Counsell said Leiter is slated to throw again Saturday. It's unclear whether Leiter has been throwing off flat ground or a mound, but it certainly is a positive sign that the 33-year-old was able to start a throwing program just five days after landing on the IL with a strain in his right (throwing) forearm. He'll still most likely remain on the injured list for more than a minimum-length stay, but a return before the All-Star break hasn't been ruled out yet. Rotowire.com Today, 12:13 pm
    • Throwing bullpen Saturday
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Brown (neck) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Brown was cleared to resume throwing last week, and Saturday will mark his first time working of a mound since landing on the injured list June 11 with a left neck strain. The 24-year-old righty remains without a firm return timeline, though he will likely require another bullpen session or two before moving onto facing live hitters. Rotowire.com Today, 12:07 pm

    • Twins outright Jay Jackson to Triple-A
Twins sent RHP Jay Jackson outright to Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: Jackson will stick around with Minnesota as extra organizational relief depth after going unclaimed on waivers following his removal last week from the club’s 40-man roster. The 36-year-old journeyman righty has posted a calamitous 7.52 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 29/22 K/BB ratio across 26 1/3 innings (20 appearances) this season in the big leagues. • Set to return next week
Soriano (abdomen) is expected to start one of the Angels' contests in Oakland during a three-game series that begins July 2, per MLB.com.

Advice: Soriano landed on the injured list June 20 with an infection in his abdomen, and the team believes he will be ready to return after the minimum 15-day stay. Since the move to the injured list was retroactive to June 17, that means the right-hander can be activated as soon as July 2. Soriano has been throwing from 120 feet as well as playing long toss in preparation for a return. Rotowire.com Today, 11:54 am

    • Liam Henriks (elbow) throws another bullpen session
Liam Henriks (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Friday.

Advice: There’s some growing optimism that Hendriks might be able to give the Red Sox something in the later stages of the year, especially if they remain in the playoff chase. The 35-year-old veteran stopper is coming off Tommy John surgery and there’s little incentive for Boston to rush him back too quickly and risk a setback. However, he’s making steady progress at the moment. Rotoworld Today, 11:51 am

    • Red Sox claim Alex Speas off waivers from Astros
Red Sox claimed RHP Alex Speas off waivers from the Astros.

Advice: Speas ships up to Boston after being designated for assignment last weekend by Houston. The hard-throwing has big-time velocity, but has also struggled to command his impressive stuff, walking over a batter per-inning this season at the Triple-A level. If he ever scales back the free passes, he could morph into a pretty stellar reliever at the highest level. At 26 years old, it’s easy to see why teams continue to roll the dice. • Claimed by Boston
The Red Sox claimed Speas off waivers from the Astros on Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Advice: Speas was DFA'd by the Astros last week, and although he'll remain in Triple-A with his new organization, he will reclaim a spot on a 40-man roster. The 26-year-old righty has accumulated a gaudy 10.38 ERA and 2.26 WHIP through 21.2 total innings in the minors while spending time with three different organizations. Barring a significant improvement, a return to the majors is unlikely. Rotowire.com Today, 11:18 am

    • Throws 20 pitches in bullpen Friday
Hendriks (elbow) threw a second bullpen session Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: All 20 of Hendriks' pitches Friday were fastballs, and the right-hander noted Saturday that three more bullpen sessions are planned next week. The 35-year-old is working his way back from Tommy John surgery from last August, and he is aiming to return to the majors before the end of the regular season. In his last full season in 2022 as a member of the White Sox, Hendriks registered a 2.81 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 85:16 K:BB across 57.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 10:59 am
