    • Slugs ninth homer
Varsho went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's rout of the Tigers.

Advice: His seventh-inning long ball off Jack Flaherty broke open what had been a 1-1 pitchers' duel, sending the Blue Jays on their way to an eventual 9-1 victory. Varsho has five multi-RBI performances in the last nine games, and on the season he leads Toronto in both homers (nine) and RBI (27) despite an unimpressive .213/.303/.458 slash line. • Earns fifth win
Rodriguez (5-1) earned the win over the White Sox on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks over five innings while striking out seven.

Advice: Rodriguez ran into trouble right away after surrendering a leadoff single to Tommy Pham. The right-hander would fail to retire four of the first six batters in the first inning and even walked home the first run of the contest, but was able to escape without any further damage. His command issues surfaced again in the third when he issued a two-out walk and then hit Paul DeJong with a pitch, leading to Chicago's second run. Rodriguez has allowed just two runs over 11 innings since returning from the injured list, though his five walks Thursday marked a season high. He's issued at least three free passes in three straight outings. Rotowire.com Today, 4:45 am
    • Dominant in win
Gausman (3-3) picked up the win over the Tigers on Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 10 over six innings.

Advice: Gausman had his best stuff of the year Thursday, striking out a season-high 10 batters while not allowing a hit until the sixth inning when Javier Baez tagged him for a leadoff single. The right-hander induced 18 whiffs on the night and struck out at least two batters in three different innings. He's now won his last three decisions (spanning five starts) and has given up one run or fewer in five of his last seven outings. Rotowire.com Today, 4:10 am

    • Rodriguez gets fifth win Thursday
Grayson Rodriguez allowed two runs in five innings and picked up the win in the Orioles’ 8-6 win over the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Rodriguez was a bit of a mixed bag in his second start since coming off the injured list. The win was his fifth of the season. Rodriguez struck out seven, but also allowed three hits and walked five. His ERA is 3.20 on the season now. The 24-year-old right-hander is scheduled to face the Red Sox at home next week.

    • Varsho blasts ninth home run Thursday
Daulton Varsho went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: Varsho came to the plate in a tie game in the seventh inning and hit a two-run home run off Tigers starter Jack Flaherty that put the Blue Jays ahead for good. Varsho is hitting just .213 this year, but he has five stolen bases to go with nine home runs and 27 RBI. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:30 pm

    • Gausman strikes out 10 in win Thursday
Kevin Gausman allowed one run and struck out 10 in six innings and picked up the win in the Blue Jays’ 9-1 victory over the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: Gausman’s 10 strikeouts were a season-high. The win was his third in 10 starts this season. He allowed just three hits and two walks against the hapless Tigers offense. The 33-year-old right-hander is set to face the White Sox on the road next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:20 pm

    • To resume throwing
Manager Brandon Hyde said Thursday that Wells (elbow) plans to resume throwing this week in Sarasota, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: It will be the first time Wells has played catch since May 1, as he's been shut down the past few weeks after undergoing additional testing. The right-hander still has to go through a full throwing program and isn't likely to be back with the Orioles in the near future. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:15 pm

    • Tyler Wells (elbow) set to resume throwing
Tyler Wells (elbow) has been cleared to resume throwing.

Advice: Wells hit the injured list back in mid-April with right elbow inflammation and has finally been cleared to kick off a throwing program. The 29-year-old righty is still several weeks, if not longer, away from being an option for Baltimore’s starting rotation mix, which took a hit earlier this week with John Means suffering a forearm strain. • Another strong outing
Skenes didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Giants, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out three.

Advice: While Thursday's outing wasn't as dominant as Skene's 11-strikeout performance in his previous start, the rookie right-hander was still effective, coaxing a pair of key double-play balls to limit the Giants to just one run. However, the Pirates bullpen would implode late, leaving Skenes with a no-decision in an eventual 7-6 loss. Skenes now sports a 2.25 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP and an impressive 21:4 K:BB through his first three starts (16 innings). He's currently in line for a road matchup with the Tigers in his next outing.
