      Verlander (neck) played catch Sunday and manager Joe Espada left the door open for Verlander to return to Houston's rotation this week against the White Sox, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: It sounds like Verlander is already feeling better after he was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to neck discomfort. If he responds well in the coming days, the three-time Cy Young winner could return for a prime matchup in Chicago, though Espada said it's still up in the air.       Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters that Justin Verlander (neck) could return for the upcoming series against the White Sox.

      Advice: The Astros won’t announce their rotation for the upcoming games against Chicago just yet, largely (entirely) because the status of Verlander is up in the air. The future Hall of Famer was scratched from Saturday’s start against Detroit with discomfort in his neck, and he hasn’t been particularly effective when on the mound.       Rodriguez (8-2) earned the win against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over seven innings.

      Advice: Rodriguez allowed runs on an RBI double by Alec Bohm in the first inning and a solo home run by Edmundo Sosa in the second but rebounded with five scoreless frames to earn his third consecutive win. This was the first time Rodriguez completed seven innings in a start this season, but he has pitched into the sixth in all but two of his 12 starts so far.       Kelly (shoulder) is expected to be held out through the All-Star break, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports Saturday.

      Advice: Manager Torey Lovullo noted that Kelly hasn't thrown beyond 75 feet yet and is being brought along slowly. The 35-year-old has been sidelined since late April and didn't start a throwing program until June 4.       Grayson Rodriguez allowed two runs with six strikeouts over seven innings in a win over the Phillies on Saturday.

      Advice: Rodriguez got two quick outs to start the game, but gave up a single and a double that would bring a run in to score for the Phillies in the first. Edmundo Sosa then led off the second inning with a solo homer. Rodriguez settled in to retire ten consecutive batters until working around a single in a scoreless fifth inning. He got into trouble in the sixth with runners on second and third with two outs. Rodriguez got Sosa to strike out swinging to escape the jam, his sixth strikeout on the day. He’d toss one more scoreless frame to complete seven innings for the win.       Advice: Bradish pitched five frames in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Phillies, leaving the contest with right elbow discomfort, which is now understood to be due to the much-feared UCL injury. The 27-year-old missed the first month of the season with a UCL sprain, so he's likely set to miss more than the minimum 15 days. Left-hander Nick Vespi was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Bradish on Baltimore's major-league roster in a corresponding move Saturday.       Advice: Not good. Bradish lands on the injured list after being removed from Friday’s start against the Phillies with right elbow discomfort. The primary concern here for fantasy managers is that Bradish missed time earlier this year due to a UCL sprain in his right elbow, which caused him to miss all of spring training and the first month of the season. There should be an update on his status at some point in the near future, but the 27-year-old righty could be facing a lengthy absence.       Advice: Verlander was geared up to face his former team Saturday, but he'll now likely have to have his turn in the rotation skipped completely as a result of the neck issue. With Sunday's scheduled starter Spencer Arrighetti now pushed up to toe the rubber Saturday, Houston will likely have to look outside the major-league roster for a fill-in starter Sunday. Left-hander Eric Lauer is with Triple-A Sugar Land and could be an option to be called up. It's unclear whether or not Verlander's injury will require a stint on the injured list, but for now the 41-year-old's next opportunity to return to the mound appears to be next weekend in Baltimore at the earliest.       Advice: No word yet on the severity of the neck ailment that led to Verlander being scratched from a highly-anticipated outing against his former team, but Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters they don’t believe it’s an injured list situation. Espada added that the 41-year-old veteran righty has been pitching through neck soreness for the last two or three weeks, which certainly helps explain his recent struggles. It’ll be rookie Spencer Arrighetti taking the ball in his place. There should be an additional update on his status at some point this weekend.
