      Advice: The story of the game was the return of Max Scherzer to the mound, but Langford also contributed to the Rangers' fourth straight win. His fourth-inning double plated Texas' first run and he came home on Leody Taveras' two-run single.       Gorman went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Giants.

      Advice: Gorman got aboard on a fielder's choice and picked up a steal for the second game in a row. The second baseman has gone 0-for-9 with a hit-by-pitch and two sacrifice flies over his last three contests. He's gone 17 games without a multi-hit effort, batting a poor .078 (5-for-64) in that span, though two of those hits have been homers. The slump has him down to a .194/.272/.421 slash line with 16 home runs, 36 RBI, five steals and 31 runs scored across 70 contests.       Scherzer (1-0) picked up the win Sunday, allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts across five scoreless innings against Kansas City.

      Advice: Scherzer showed no signs of rust after missing the first 12 weeks of the season recovering from offseason back surgery and battling thumb and forearm injuries, retiring the first 13 batters he faced and picking up the victory. Though he completed five innings, Scherzer was pulled after 57 pitches and should continue to have his workload monitored during his next few starts.       Advice: Lindor opened the scoring with his third-inning blast. The shortstop has been showcasing all of his skills in June, going 21-for-76 (.276) with four homers, five steals and 10 RBI over 19 contests this month. It's a strong turnaround for the 30-year-old, who is slashing .241/.310/.433 with 13 homers, 39 RBI, 49 runs scored, 20 doubles and 13 steals through 76 games overall.       Francisco Lindor clobbered a two-run homer and stole a base on Sunday night, helping to lead the Mets to a 5-2 victory over the Cubs in Chicago.

      Advice: Lindor opened the scoring in the ballgame with a 378-foot (101.4 mph EV) two-run blast after an eight-pitch battle with Javier Assad in the third inning. He was also hit by a pitch in the fifth inning and swiped second base before getting stranded at third.       Advice: Bregman turned in a perfect day at the plate, starting with a double and a run scored during Houston's four-run first inning. It was his third multi-hit performance over his last four games. He's gone 17 straight games without a home run, but he's hitting .354 (23-for-65) during that span.     • Max Scherzer has great start in 2024 debut
      Max Scherzer threw five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four and walking none.

      Advice: There’s not much more you could ask for from the 39-year-old in his season debut. He was incredibly economical with his 57 pitches, throwing 39 strikes. He also induced seven whiffs on 31 swings for a 23 percent whiff rate and 26 percent CSW on the day. Two things to keep an eye on are that Scherzer’s four-seam fastball velocity was 92.9 mph, which is down from last year’s 93.7 mph, and he also allowed 92 percent zone contact, so he was really only missing bats when he got chases out of the zone.       Alex Bregman went 4-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in an 8-1 win over the Orioles on Sunday.

      Advice: Bregman had two doubles and two singles on the day but also came away with zero RBI. Still, the consistent contact is nice to see, and the veteran is now 28-for-77 in 19 games in June for a .364 batting average.     • Paul Skenes strong for seven against Rays
      Paul Skenes was uninvolved in the decision Sunday after allowing one run in seven innings and striking out eight against the Rays.

      Advice: The homer off the bat of Yandy Díaz led off the game. The Rays had no further luck, though, at least not until Skenes left the game to begin the eighth.
