    • Nico Hoerner available off bench on Tuesday vs. Rays
Nico Hoerner (hand) remains absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Rays.

Advice: Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Hoerner is available off the bench after getting through an extensive hitting session on Tuesday afternoon. There’s some optimism the 27-year-old second baseman will be able to play through the issue, and should return to the lineup soon, but he remains on the bench to open a three-game set down in Tampa Bay. • Out again Tuesday
Hoerner (hand) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Rays.

Advice: Hoerner is dealing with a small fracture in his right hand and will miss a fourth straight start. The hope still seems to be that he can avoid the injured list and play through some discomfort, but he's not ready to do that just yet. Michael Busch is getting a second straight start at second base Tuesday. Rotowire.com Today, 2:02 pm

    • Back from IL
The Red Sox activated Yoshida (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida has been sidelined since late April with a strained left thumb but recently was able to play in a couple rehab games with Triple-A Worcester, clearing the way for his return. He returns to a .275/.348/.388 slash line and will operate as Boston's primary designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 11:56 am

    • Red Sox activate Masataka Yoshida off injured list
Red Sox activated OF Masataka Yoshida off the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Yoshida ended up missing a little more than a month with his left thumb strain. The 30-year-old should see plenty of playing time in the Boston outfield now that he’s back on the roster, likely as the designated hitter. He’ll be the DH Tuesday against the Phillies and hit fifth. To make room for Yoshida on the roster, the Red Sox designated Garrett Cooper for assignment. Rotoworld Today, 11:51 am

    • Yields one run in quality start
Harrison allowed one run on four hits and no walks while striking out three batters over 6.1 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Monday.

Advice: Harrison had just nine whiffs and three punchouts in the outing, but he kept the Astros off the scoreboard until the seventh frame. The left-handed hurler finished with his second straight quality start and allowed fewer than three runs for the first time since May 7. Harrison hasn't given up more than four earned runs in any of his 14 starts this season, though, helping him maintain a respectable 3.96 ERA despite a mediocre 1.33 WHIP and 68:22 K:BB across 77.1 innings. • Kyle Harrison strong for six against Astros
Kyle Harrison surrendered one run over six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Astros.

Advice: Harrison went without walking a batter for the second straight outing tonight and lowered his ERA to 3.96. There isn’t much mixed-league value here yet, but he’ll get there eventually if he continues to lower his walk rate. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:05 pm
    • Chourio hits seventh home run Monday
Jackson Chourio went 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run against the Blue Jays on Monday.

Advice: A top prospect who signed a big extension before the season, Chourio is hitting .220 with a .626 OPS and 22 RBI this year. He hit .283 with 22 home runs and 44 stolen bases in 128 games in the minor leagues last year so he’s still worth leaving the light on for. The Brewers continue to give him regular playing time, but that could change given their place atop the division standings as they look towards the playoffs. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:41 pm
    • Fans nine in loss
Pepiot (4-3) took the loss Monday against Baltimore, allowing four runs on nine hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out nine.

Advice: Pepiot struggled to contain an imposing Orioles lineup, allowing a career-high nine hits. However, it wasn't all bad for the Rays righty as he generated an impressive 16 whiffs en route to nine strikeouts. Following this four-run appearance, Pepiot has thrown a 4.17 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 68:16 K:BB over 58.1 innings this season. The 26-year-old faces another difficult test in his next start, scheduled to be at Atlanta this weekend. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:08 pm

    • Ryan Pepiot strikes out nine in loss to Orioles
Ryan Pepiot struck out nine and allowed four runs over six innings on Monday in a loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Pepiot put together an extremely impressive performance as solo homers from Gunnar Henderson and Ryan O’Hearn, respectively, represented the only damage against him early on until O’Hearn added a two-run double in the fifth inning, which was enough to saddle him with a loss. He generated 16 swinging strikes, including six on his changeup alone, and finished with a robust 35 percent CSW. The 26-year-old righty has excelled in his Rays debut this season, allowing three earned runs or fewer in eight of his 11 starts. He’ll bring a sparkling 4.17 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 68/16 K/BB ratio across 58 1/3 innings (11 starts) into a challenging road matchup on Saturday against the Braves at Truist Park.
