      Doval gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in the ninth inning Friday to record his ninth save of the season in an 8-7 win over the Mets.

      Advice: The Giants scored six of their runs in the eighth and ninth innings to create the save chance, but Doval very nearly squandered it following a leadoff double by pinch hitter DJ Stewart and a fielding error by Marco Luciano. It was the first earned run the right-hander has allowed since May 8 at Coors Field, and on the season Doval carries a 3.05 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 27:15 K:BB through 20.2 innings while converting nine of 10 save opportunities.       Camilo Doval worked around two hits and an error to earn the save on Friday over the Mets. He struck out one.

      Advice: This was a treacherous ninth inning for Doval. The Mets rallied on him and then Marco Luciano butchered a tailor-made double play that would’ve ended the game. Then he intentionally walked Brandon Nimmo before punching out J.D. Martinez with a runner on third and one out. Then Matt Chapman made a herculean bare-handed play to end the game.       Garrett (5-1) took the loss Wednesday against Cleveland, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in one inning. He struck out two.

      Advice: After entering with the game tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Garrett allowed a leadoff single to David Fry, who advanced to second on a wild pitch before eventually scoring on a Johnathan Rodriguez base hit. It's the first loss of the year for the 31-year-old Garrett -- he's allowed just two earned runs in his last 13.1 innings. Despite Wednesday's setback, Garrett's emerged as a top option in the Mets' bullpen and could see the occasional save chance with Edwin Diaz temporarily shifting to a lower-leverage role.       Manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Alzolay (forearm) will be shut down from throwing for at least two weeks, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

      Advice: Alzolay went in for a second opinion on his right flexor strain Tuesday, and the damage appears to be serious enough to warrant a shutdown.       Doval gave up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday to blow his first save of the season in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Pirates. He struck out one.

      Advice: The Giants rolled into the ninth inning with a 6-2 lead, but after Luke Jackson put two runners aboard with one out, Doval got the call and coaxed a potential double-play grounder from Andrew McCutchen, only for Marco Luciano to boot it and pave the way for a Pirates rally. Doval's control has taken a step backward this season, as he has a 15.7 percent walk rate compared to a 9.3 percent mark in 2023, but he still carries a 2.89 ERA to go with his 1.45 WHIP, 25:13 K:BB through 18.2 innings and eight saves.
